Yangming Dryness Metal governs the Heaven (upper half of the year), Shaoyin Ministerial Fire governs the Earth (lower half of the year), and the middle reveals a Shao Zheng (deficient) Fire movement. The transformation of the annual movement, Cold and Rain victory and recovery are the same. This refers to the days when pathogenic Qi dominates. Dryness transformation is four, Heat transformation is two. This refers to the days when righteous Qi dominates.
Before the midpoint of the year, Heavenly Qi is governed by Yangming. Yangming transforms through its Middle Qi. At that time, Dryness and Humidity are equal, meaning Yangming attains its mean state.
After the midpoint of the year, Earthly Qi is governed by Shaoyin. Shaoyin has Ben-Biao (Root and Mark) transformations. At that time, Cold and Heat are balanced, and Shaoyin Qi is harmonious. The year's Fire is appropriately balanced.
First Qi period: From the Si hour of the Great Cold day in the Ren Shen year to the Mao hour of the Spring Equinox day in this year, totaling 60 days and 87.5 ke. The Host Position is Tai Jue Wood. The Host Position is Shao Zheng Fire, the Guest Qi is Yangming Metal, revealing Fire movement in the middle. Metal resides in the Fire position. Heavenly administration is established, Coolness prevails, Dryness and Heat intertwine, and extreme Dryness transforms into Moisture. People suffer from alternating chills and fever. It is appropriate to treat the Guest Qi of Yangming with Sour tonification, Pungent purgation, and Bitter drainage. Annual grains should be white; intercalary grains should be broomcorn millet. Thus, harm from Dryness pathogen is avoided.
Fourth Qi period: From the Zi hour of the Great Heat day to the Xu hour of the Autumn Equinox day, totaling over 60 days. The Host Position is Tai Gong Earth, the Guest Qi is Taiyang Water, revealing Fire movement in the middle. Cold-Damp Qi, under the command of Shaoyin. Cold rain descends. People suffer from sudden collapse, trembling and shivering, delirium, shortness of breath, dry throat with desire to drink, as well as heart pain, carbuncles, sores, ulcers, malaria with chills, bone atrophy, and bloody stools. ...
