Those who suffer from dysentery accompanied by generalized edema are affected due to prolonged dysentery. Prolonged dysentery leads to weak Stomach Qi and empty Intestines. The Stomach belongs to Earth, responsible for transforming food and fluids to nourish muscles and flesh. If the Qi of Stomach Earth declines and cannot overcome dampness, Water Qi will act recklessly, overflowing into the skin. Thus, dysentery is accompanied by edema. Recovery occurs if urination becomes smooth.
