A hundred insects entering the ear canal vary in species. Ancient prescriptions either irrigate with medicinal liquids or guide them out with objects, all relying on intent to expel them. Among these, donkey milk and cow butter are considered the most effective methods. For insects entering the ear, irrigation causes them to liquefy immediately; if they have entered the abdomen, continuous administration of purgative formulas is required for recovery.
Liyan San (from *Shengji Zonglu*) treats centipedes entering the ear.
*Chuanxiong Rhizoma* (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), prepared *Arisaema Cum Bile* (Prepared Arisaema cum Bile), *Angelicae Dahuricae Radix* (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae), processed *Pharisi Feces* (Stercus Phari), roasted *Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus* (Fructus Gleditsiae Sinensis) [3 fen each], prepared *Bai Dingxiang* (Excrement of Sparrow), *Stemonae Radix* (Radix Stemonae), and *Veratrum Nigrum* (Rhizoma Veratri Nigri) [4 fen each], mixed with realgar (Realgar). Grind into fine powder. Dip a hair into the medicine and gently blow it into the ear canal to allow the medicinal qi to circulate, causing the insect to exit immediately. Do not use too much medicine, as excessive amounts may cause the centipede to liquefy without exiting. For scorpion stings, apply a little vinegar first, then sprinkle half a 'zi' amount of the powder, rub until warm, and effect is immediate.
Shexiang Gao (from *Shenghui Fang*) treats centipedes entering the ear.
*Moschus* (Moschus) [0.5 qian], *Asafoetida* (Resina Ferulae), *Dragon's Blood* (Sanguis Draconis), dried *Lacuca Resina* (Resina Commiphorae), *Bletillae Rhizoma* (Rhizoma Bletillae), and *Calamina* (Calamina). Grind into powder, add chicken egg white, and mix uniformly.

*Cantharis* (Cantharis) and *Mylabris* (Mylabris) [remove heads and feet, stir-fry with rice, 21 each], *Venus Stone* (Lapis Venusis), *Silver Star Stone* (Lapis Argenteus Stellatus) [grind, 1 qian each], willow catkin alum [2 qian], wild wolf poison [1 liang]. On the noon hour of the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, combine the first six herbs in a porcelain bottle, burn to ash, add *Moschus*, and grind uniformly. Use one 'zi' dose per application. Grind ginger (size of a date) and one stalk of white scallion to extract juice, mix with the powder. Add one he of clear oil, mix, and irrigate into the ear. After a meal's time, superficial insects exit naturally, deep ones die. If insects enter the abdomen, cook half a jin of mutton into soup, remove fat, add the previous medicine, mix well, and soak the head over the bowl for the duration of a meal; insects will exit.

*Moschus* (Moschus) [3 fen], green vitriol [0.5 liang], rice vinegar, donkey milk [small amounts]. Mix into liquid. Place a small amount in a clam shell and pour into the ear. Tilt the ear shortly after; the insect liquefies, leaving only legs behind, which serves as verification.

The insect attracted by the scent will approach; quickly withdraw the plug and remove with tweezers.
