In the past, Lady Gong, wife of Zhao Duyun, experienced prolapse of the uterine intestine (submucosal tissue/prolapsed uterus/intestine) prior to fetal expulsion during every labor. After the delivery of the infant and placenta, the prolapsed tissue failed to retract, causing her significant distress. This condition is termed "Pan Chang Chan" (Coiled Intestine Birth).
Xin Ji Fang (Fresh Water Formula)
For treating cases where intestinal prolapse prevents successful delivery or retraction due to Pan Chang Chan.
Take the root of Hibiscus mutabilis (Furong Gen) growing towards the east. Remove the rough outer bark, retaining only the tender white inner bark. Discard the woody parts. Pound the material until mushy, then mix with water to create a slurry. Use a goose feather to gently apply this liquid to the prolapsed tissue; it will spontaneously retract. Treating Pan Chang Xian Hua Chan (Flower-Blooming Prolapse)
Medical texts do not record such cases, yet they are startling. In some deliveries, the intestinal tissue prolapses first, followed immediately by the infant. Folk practice involves splashing cold water on the mother's face, after which the prolapsed tissue spontaneously retracts.
Nao Ding Shui Shao (Insufficient Brain Top Fluid)
Treatment for Tui Chang Sheng (Pushing Intestine Birth), also known as Pan Chang Chan.
Powdered Pinellia ternata (Ban Xia) is insufflated into the nose. The resulting sneeze causes the intestine to ascend and retract.
Another Formula
Use a large paper wick moistened with Sesame Oil (Mahu You). Light the wick and blow it out, using the smoke to fumigate the parturient's nose. The intestine will ascend and retract.
Chuzhi San (Toona Sinensis Branch Powder)
Treats postpartum prolapse of the uterine intestine that cannot be managed, regardless of duration.
Take the bark of Toona sinensis (Chuzhi), dry it by roasting, and use one handful. Add five sheng of water, five stalks of green onion including roots, and a pinch of Zanthoxylum bungeanum (Han Jiao/Sichuan Pepper). Decoct together until three sheng remain, then strain. Pour the decoction into a basin. Allow the parturient to sit over the basin for fumigation while hot.
Dietary Restriction: Avoid salt.
Treating Postpartum Intestinal Prolapse Unable to Retract
Decoct Fructus Aurantii (Zhi Qiao) in water. Soak the prolapsed tissue in the warm solution for an extended period, and it will retract. An alternative prescription uses two liang of Zhi Qiao, with the pith removed.
Treating Postpartum Rectal/Uterine Prolapse Unable to Retract
Use five jin of Sesame Oil (Mahu You), refined until熟 (cooked/ready). Place in a basin. When the temperature is suitable, have the parturient sit in the oil basin for approximately the duration of one meal. Then, roast Gleditsia sinensis thorn (Zaoci) until crisp, removing the coarse parts... [Text cuts off here]
Baigui San (Aged Turtle Powder)
Treats postpartum intestinal prolapse in women unable to retract.
Vermilion Duckweed (Zi Fuping Cao) (half liang, dried in shade) Aged Turtle Shell (Baigui) (half liang, roasted with vinegar until brittle/crisp). Grind both into powder. Take two qian per dose, mixed with warm wine or water. Administer on an empty stomach for immediate effect.
Treating Postpartum Intestinal Prolapse Unable to Retract, Concurrently Treating Pediatric Rectal Prolapse.
Vermilion Duckweed (Zi Fuping Cao) (dried in shade) Silkworm Excrement (Wancansha) (stir-fried, equal parts). Grind into powder. Take two qian per dose, mixed with boiling water or warm wine. Immediate effect.
Another Formula
Powder of Cremanthodium album (Shancigu) is sprinkled onto the prolapsed tissue. Simultaneously, powder of Gleditsia sinensis fruit (Zaojiao) is insufflated into the nose to induce several sneezes, causing the tissue to retract spontaneously.

Lotus Leaf with Sesame Oil... [Text cuts off]. Roast until dry and grind into powder. First, soak the protruding tissue in a decoction of Lotus Leaf and Natrii Sulfas (Puxiao). Warm the tissue. Family Prescribed Formula
Place wheat flour in a perforated cloth bag. Place the bag in a basin of hot water and agitate/wash it repeatedly. When the water is warm, have the parturient sit on the bag so the prolapsed tissue is immersed. Frequently agitate the wheat flour bag.
Hai Shang Fang (Formula from the Sea Above)
Asarum heterotropoides (Xixin) Musk (Shexiang). Grind into powder and insufflate into the nose. Inducing a sneeze will cause the tissue to retract. Another view states that any medication capable of opening orifices can be used.
Ye Shi Fang (Master Ye's Formula)
Decoct Natrii Sulfas (Puxiao) in water to soak the prolapsed tissue. Keeping it warm allows natural contraction and retraction.
Lian Shi Fang (Master Lian's Formula)
One liang of Alum (Baifan) powder is mixed with one bowl of rice vinegar. Place in a clean small bucket. Heat hard charcoal inside the bucket. Urgently have the parturient sit above the bucket mouth to fumigate with the rising heat.
Qianjin Fang (Prescription from the Thousand Gold)
Burn the head of a softshell turtle to ash. Apply to the umbilicus. Also, mix with water and administer orally.

Decoct Notopterygium incisum (Qianghuo) in wine.
Han Dushi Fang (Official Han's Formula)
Cnidium monnieri (Shechuangzi) Borneol (Shaonao/Zhangnao) Piper nigrum (Hujiao) Aster tataricus root tip (Ziwanshao). Grind equal parts into powder. Take five qian per dose, decoct in water for fumigation and washing.
Another Formula
Fine powder of Scorpio (Quanxie). Hold water in the mouth. Insufflate the medicinal powder into the nose for immediate efficacy.
Shen Shi Fang (Master Shen's Formula)
Selaginella tamariscina (Juanbai) half liang. Crush and decoct in water in a porcelain bottle. Fumigate while hot, wash when warm.
Treating Postpartum Intestinal Prolapse Unable to Retract
Flowers of Dolichos lablab (Bai Biandouhua) Flowers of Sophora tonkinensis (Shandougenhua). Grind equal parts into powder. Take four qian per dose, mixed with warm Safflower (Honghua) wine. Immediate retraction and recovery.
Another Formula
Decoct Fructus Aurantii (Zhi Qiao) and Schizonepeta tenuifolia (Jingjie) for fumigation and washing. Sprinkle powder of Chinese Gall (Wubeizi) onto the intestine.
Another Formula
Have the woman sit on a stone mortar. Grind Castor bean paste (Bimazi Gao) and apply to the vertex (Baihui point). Secretly spray water on her face. Suddenly endure the sensation, rise, and shake the body; the intestine will have already retracted.
Xie Shi Fang (Master Xie's Formula)
Dragon's Blood (Xuexie) Frankincense (Ruxiang). Burn these to produce smoke and fumigate the area; the tissue will retract.
Qianjin Yi Fang (Supplement to the Thousand Gold Prescriptions)
Cuttlebone (Haipiaoxiao) Sulfur (Liuhuang). Grind into powder and sprinkle onto the prolapsed tissue.
