*Chrysococcum* (Huang Dan) and *Alumen* (Bai Fan) in equal parts. Grind the above into powder. Apply a small amount to the affected area.
Lotus Seed Porridge. Treats redness and pain of the eyes.
Lotus seeds (peeled, ground to about one cup), *Oryza sativa* var. *japonica* (Jing Mi, rice) (half sheng). First decoct the lotus seeds, then add rice and cook into porridge. Consume according to usual methods.
Treatment for red eyes. Effective for both new and chronic cases, miraculous effect. (Also known as *Tongqing Gao*, from *Shibian Liang Fang*)
Take rock salt the size of a jujube pit, human milk the size of a jujube pit. Place in an old copper bowl. Grind with ten ancient coins until the mixture becomes thick and adheres to the bottom of the bowl. Take prepared mugwort (*Artemisia argyi*, Shu Ai) and bind tightly... lie supine.
*Jiuku San*. Treats red eyes with severe, unbearable pain.
*Natrii Sulfas* (Puxiao) and *Realgar* (Xionghuang) in equal parts. Grind into fine powder. Hold water in the mouth, and insufflate the powder into either the left or right nostril depending on the affected eye.
Treatment for red eyes and nebula. (From *Qianjin Fang*)

Application for Red Eyes (From *Rumen Shiqin*)
Collect maggots from green mud, wash them clean, dry them, and grind into powder. Take one qian of the powder. Have the patient lie supine, scatter the powder onto the eye. After a moment, when the medicine spreads, remove it after a short time.
Treatment for red eyes caused by heat-toxin.
Stir-fry salt until yellow, mix with melted beeswax, shape into cakes, and apply to the eyes for cure.
*Di Huang Gao* (From *Wei Shi Fang*)
Treats red eyes.
Select plump fresh *Rehmanniae Radix* (Dihuang), wash clean, and grind finely. Wrap in silk gauze. Lie supine and place the medicine packet on the eyes. Initially, it may feel obstructive and painful, but after a while, a cooling sensation is felt.
Small Drying Medicine Prescription (From *Wei Shi Fang*)
Treats sudden onset of nebula after red eyes. Han Yuanxi once used this prescription himself, clearing two layers of nebula in one day.
Insert *Centipeda minima* (E Bushi Cao) into the nostrils for immediate cure. (This herb is also fed to crickets kept by people.)
*Bitter Bamboo Juice Prescription* (Also known as *Retre Gao*, from *Shibian Liang Fang*)
Treats red eyes with stabbing pain preventing opening, caused by Liver Heat.
Take five he of bitter bamboo juice (*Kuzhu Li*), two fen of *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian). Wrap in cotton cloth and soak in the bamboo juice overnight. Instill into the eyes several times until hot tears flow out for cure.
*Qin Pi Prescription* (From *Longmu Lun*)
Treats red eyes and sores on the eyeball.
Take one liang of *Phellodendri Cortex* (Qin Pi), one sheng of clear water. Soak in a white bowl. In spring and summer, soak for more than the duration of one meal until a green color appears. Wrap the tip of a chopstick with cotton, tilt the head back, and instill drops into the eyes.
Red Eye Prescription (From *Longmu Lun*)
Treats red eyes, pain, and photophobia. After using this medicine, red eyes will never recur again; it has great efficacy.
Select five qian of *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian), soak in water to peel, dry, and grind into fine powder. Mix with fresh well water and spread in a bowl. Use sixty copper coins arranged in three piles... insufflate... open one eye...
*Dongqing Prescription* (From *Haishang Fang*)
Treats red eyes.
Take two pieces of new brick, five dou of *Ilex cornuta* leaves (Dongqing Ye). Pound to extract natural juice, soak the bricks for several days until penetrated, then take them out. Dig a pit in the ground, place the bricks inside with space around them, cover...

Decoct *Saposhnikoviae Radix* (Haitong Pi) to wash the eyes.
Another Prescription
Use the fresh gallbladder of a black-bone chicken. Dip a rush pith into the bile and instill into the eyes.
Treatment for red eyes and swollen orbits.
Raise field snails, removing mud and shells. Place one qian of *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian) powder inside the snail meat until it liquefies. Sweep with a goose feather. Another method uses sea snails. Another uses human milk.
Human Milk Prescription
Treats red eyes, pain, and excessive tearing; also detoxifies beef liver and horse meat.
Use colostrum from a first-born male infant, mixed with strong fermented soybean juice, taken orally for miraculous effect. Another method uses human milk alone to instill into the eyes.
Treatment for itchy and painful red eyes.
Grind *Scutellariae Radix* (Huangqin) into powder, decoct in water, use for gargling and washing the eyes.
Mugwort Leaf Prescription
Treats red eyes.
Burn mugwort leaves, cover with a bowl to collect the soot. Dissolve the soot in warm water, wash the eyes for cure. Adding *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian) is even better.
*Moringa Seeds Powder*
Treats painful red eyes.
Boil *Moringae Semen* (Wujingzi) in strong vinegar until cooked. Take one fangcunbi with well water, three times a day. Consuming one dou improves night vision.
Raw Sheep Liver Prescription
Treats hot, red, painful eyes and blurred vision.
Take one green sheep liver, slice thinly, wash with water, drain, and eat with scallions, sauce, salt, and vinegar.
Treatment for red eyes, pain, and neonatal erythema.
Mix pig gallbladder with *Chalcanthitum* (Yanlu) five fen; both are effective.
Treatment for red eyes.
Take forty-nine apricot kernels, peel, and grind into powder. Wrap in a silk bag, steam over rice. While hot, squeeze out the juice. Add *Chalcanthitum* (Tongqing) and *Cerussa* (Hufen), each the size of a soybean.
Treatment for red eyes regardless of duration.
Take three liang of *Natrii Nitras* (Naosha). Soak in vinegar solution in a vessel, expose to sunlight for three days. Scrape off the dried residue from the sides of the vessel. Take a bean-sized amount, instill into both eyes at night for cure.
Treatment for eye pain.
Soak a new brick in a cesspool for many years, take it out, and place it in a cool, shady place. Brush off the efflorescence ("flowers") that grows. Mix with a little borneol and musk, grind, and instill into the eyes.
*Zhizi Tang*
Treats red eyes.
Take seven gardenia fruits (*Shanzhizi*), pierce them, fill with sugar, and roast in ashes until cooked. Decoct with one and a half sheng of water until reduced to eight he. Strain. Add three qian of *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Dahuang) powder. Squeeze... instill into eyes.
Eye Instillation Prescription (From *Shenghui Fang*)
Treats red eyes and pain.
Large pear (*Elisyrinx*, E Li) (one large fruit, crushed and juiced), *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian) (half qian, powdered), *Calomelas* (Nifen) (one zi). Wrap the *Coptidis Rhizoma* and *Calomelas* in cotton cloth, and place them in the pear juice.
Treatment for red eyes, dry mouth, and cracked lips.
*Gypsum Fibrosum* (Shigao) (one jin, wrapped in cotton), fresh *Rehmanniae Radix* juice, red honey (each one jin), sliced *Lophatheri Herba* (Danzhuye) (five sheng). Decoct the *Lophatheri Herba* in twelve sheng of water to obtain five and a half sheng. Add the *Rehmanniae Radix* juice and honey, reduce to three sheng. Drink slowly. Avoid *Peganum harmala* (Wuyi).
Treatment for qi-toxin causing red, swollen, hot, and painful eyes. (From *Benshi Fang*)
