The essence of the five zang organs and six fu organs all ascend to the eyes. If wind-heat pathogens contend with the zang-fu, and toxic vapors invade the Liver, rushing forth to the eyes, then heat qi will vent outward. This results in tearing, excessive eye discharge (discharge), sudden dryness of eye fluids, thus causing palpebral soreness and redness/swelling.

Longnao Gao (Dragon Brain Ointment) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treating Liver heat rushing to the eyes, causing redness/pain, redness/swelling, and palpebral soreness.
Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhizi) (peeled, 2 liang), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (raw, 7 qian), Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata (Shengdigan Dihuang) (2 liang), Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (Shudigan Dihuang) (1 liang), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) (remove stamens), Celosiae Semen (Qingxiangzi) (each 8 qian), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) (4 qian), Natrii Sulfas Crystallisatus (Mayaxiao) (6 qian), Cassiae Semen (Juemingzi) (1 he, above together pounded into coarse powder), Natrii Chloridum Viride (Qingyan) (4 qian).
Borax (Sha), Borax (Pengsha), Prunus Armeniaca Kernel (Ruren) (each 2 qian, above all finely ground), Junci Medulla (Dengxin) (half bundle, chopped), Minium (Qiandan) (1 liang 3 fen, sieved), Mel (Baimi) (3 jin, above mixed evenly, put into a porcelain bottle, sealed with Reishi paper and oil to prevent air leakage, placed in a copper pot filled with hot water and boiled for one day, taken out and filtered through silk to remove dregs). Jujubae Fructus (Dazao) (10 pieces, pitted), Borneolum Syntheticum (Longnao) (1 qian), Moschus (Shexiang) (whole pieces to be ground), Calomelas (Nifen) (each 1 zi), Cinnabaris (Dansha) (ground 2 qian). Apart from the previous ointment, grind the latter four ingredients evenly, add to the previous ointment, stir to mix well, store in a dry porcelain vessel. Use a copper stick to apply to the eyes as usual. The remaining drug dregs, add two bowls of snow water, stir and put into a jar, boil according to the previous method, filter to obtain the clear liquid for eye application. Dry the dregs by roasting, add Viticis Fructus (Manjingzi) and Arctii Fructus (Enshiu), each 2 liang, stir-fry, grind together into powder. Take 1 qian 7 fen each time, after meals, taken down with Schizonepetae Herba (Jingjie) and aged tea brewed.

Qianghuo San (Notopterygium Powder) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treating wind-toxic vapors attacking the head and eyes causing dizziness/blurred vision, palpebral roughness/pain, and also treating skin itching, hidden rashes, redness/swelling.

Cassiae Semen (Juemingzi) (powder), Prunus Armeniaca Kernel (Ruren) (ground, each 6 fen), Elephant Gallbladder (Xiangdan), Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai) (peeled, powder), Fraxini Cortex (Qinpi) (powder, each 4 fen), Verdigris (Yanlü) (ground 3 fen), Cyprini Carpio Bilis (Liyudan) (remove membrane, 4 pieces), Sepiae Endoconcha (Wuzeigu) (remove shell, ground), Dentalis Concha (Beichi) (burned, ground), Equuli Corneum (Maqi) (ground, each 4 fen). Above each ground finely. First use 3 sheng of water, decoct the latter five ingredients until 1 sheng remains, remove dregs, decoct again until half sheng remains. Take an amount like a soybean, mix with human milk, drop little by little into the eyes. Twice a day, once at night, this is effective.
Xiegan San (Drain Liver Powder) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treating eye heat, palpebral soreness/redness/swelling, tearing and blurred vision.

Haliotidis Concha (Shijueming) (clean wash), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin) (remove seedlings), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng) (remove fork-like ends), Plantaginis Semen (Cheqianzi), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen), Poria (Baifuling) (remove black skin), Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang) (stir-fried until fragrant), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng) (stir-fried, each 1 liang), Leonuri Fructus (Chongweizi) (2 liang). Lingyangjiao Tang (Antelope Horn Decoction) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treating deficiency-heat of Liver and Kidney, qi stagnation attacking the eyes, palpebral roughness/red vessels.
Antelopi Cornu (Lingyangjiao) (shaved flakes, half liang), Akebiae Caulis (Mutong) (finely chopped), Scrophulariae Radix (Xuanshen), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng) (remove fork-like ends, each 1 liang), Paeoniae Radix (Shaoyao) (1 liang), Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhizi Ren) (3 fen). Except for Natrii Sulfas and Bamboo Leaves, coarsely pound and sieve. Take 5 qian each time, add 1.5 zhan of water, put in 10 slices of Bamboo Leaves, decoct to 1 zhan, remove dregs. Add 1 qian of Natrii Sulfas powder, take warm after meals, take again at bedtime.
Dianyuan Fang (Eye-Dropping Formula) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treating Liver heat, eye redness/swelling/soreness.
Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), Prunus Armeniaca Kernel (Ruren) (each 3 liang), Fraxini Cortex (Qinpi) (remove rough bark), Natrii Sulfas Crystallisatus (Mayaxiao) (ground), Cassiae Semen (Juemingzi), Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhi Ren), Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai) (remove rough bark, each 1 liang). Total 4 liang. Put in a porcelain pot, move gently, boil on slow fire until Mayaxiao is completely consumed. If soup decreases, add hot soup in turns, do not let soup be shallow. Next add Minium, boil for another day. Take out and cool, add Borneolum Syntheticum (Longnao), seal and bury in a pit to store. When needed, squeeze filter a little through raw silk to drop. If used for a long time for nebula, take 5 parts of ointment, separately add 7 parts of Light Bamboo Juice (Dan Zhuli), mix evenly and drop.

Rhinoceoris Cornu (Xijiao) (shaved flakes), Ophiopogonis Tuber (Sheng Maidong) (remove heart), Phragmitis Rhizoma (Lugen) (each 1.5 liang), Leaves of Light Bamboo (Danzhuye) (15 pieces), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (roasted, each 2 liang). Add 1.5 zhan of water, decoct to 1 zhan, remove dregs, take warm. Do not use iron vessels for decoction, take before meals.

Except for Bamboo Leaves, coarsely pound. Take 5 qian each time, add 1.5 zhong of water, put in 7 slices of Bamboo Leaves, decoct to 1 zhan, remove dregs. Take warm after meals and before bed.

Decoct to obtain 7 he, mix with milk, drop into eyes.

Ruren Tang, treating eye heat/redness/swelling/soreness.
Prunus Armeniaca Kernel (Ruren) (peeled), Fraxini Cortex (Qinpi) (remove rough bark), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng) (remove fork-like ends, each 1 liang), Chrysanthemi Flos (Ganjuhua) (selected 0.5 liang), Bamboo Leaves (Zhuye) (one handful), Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhi Ren), Polygonatum Tuber (Weirui) (each 0.5 liang). Chop like hemp beans. Use 5 zhan of water, decoct to 2.5 zhan, remove dregs, pour hot to rinse. Rinse frequently while warm when cold. Do not use iron vessels for decoction.
Ruren Gao (Prunus Kernel Ointment), treating eye roughness/astringency, tearing in wind, eyelid redness/ulceration/crusts, incessant itching/pain.
Prunus Armeniaca Kernel (Ruren) (peeled 1 liang), Cerussa (Hufen) (ground 1 qian), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) (powder 1 liang), Borneolum Syntheticum (Longnao) (ground 1 qian), Calomelas (Nifen) (ground 1 qian), Dentalis Concha (Beichi) (burned, ground 1 fen), Real Cow Milk (Zhen Niurou) (3 liang). Grind each evenly. Melt cow milk in silver/porcelain vessel, then add Ruren etc., stir evenly, boil several times.
Digupi San (Akebiae Cortex? No, Lycii Cortex Powder), treating wind-heat toxic vapors attacking eyes, roughness/pain.
Lycii Cortex (Digupi) (remove soil), Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng) (remove fork-like ends), Tribuli Fructus (Tu Jili) (remove spines, lightly stir-fried), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (roasted, each 1 liang). Make into powder. Take 2 qian 7 fen each time, taken down with Jingjie tea clear liquid. For acute red eye, take with strong Gancao decoction, after meals before bed.
Xiere Yan Fang (Clear Heat Eye Formula), treating clearing heat, eliminating blood stasis, brightening eyes.
Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) (wine washed), Paeoniae Radix (Shaoyao) (each 1 liang). Make into fine powder. Take 2 qian each time, taken down with water, after meals. Or take 1 qian, soak and wash with water, especially good.
Dazao Jian (Jujube Decoction), treating eye heat/redness, growing red vessels invading eyeball/polyps, acute pain, inability to open, soreness.
Jujubae Fructus (Dazao) (7 pieces, peeled and pitted), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) (2 liang), Leaves of Light Bamboo (Danzhuye) (cut 5 he). Use 2 sheng of water, boil Zhu Ye, obtain 1 sheng, clarify to obtain 8 he. Add jujube meat, Huanglian, decoct to obtain 4 he, remove dregs cleanly. Apply finely into eyes. Avoid pork.
Yanggan Wan (Sheep Liver Pill), clearing heat, eliminating blood stasis, brightening eyes.
Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) (clean powder), Amygdalus Communis (Xingren) (peeled and removed kernels, 0.5 liang), White Sheep Liver (Bai Yang Zi Gan) (one piece, remove fascia). Pound finely in mortar, roll into pills the size of tung seeds. Take 70 pills each time, after meals before bed, taken down with warm rice washing water, three times a day.
Xiyan Cheqiancao San (Wash Eyes Plantago Herb Powder), treating eye heat/pain/continuous tearing.
Huanglian Jian, treating sudden eye redness, roughness/pain.

Huanglian Dianyan Fang (Coptitis Eye-Drop Formula), treating heat-toxic invading Liver, rushing to eyes, accumulation of discharge/redness/pain, roughness/pain.
Use Huanglian remove stamens, pound to powder 0.5 liang. Use one fresh bamboo tube, keep nodes, length 6-7 cun, put in 3 he of water. Wrap Huanglian in new cotton, put into bamboo tube, place one ancient copper coin, cover tube mouth, put in steamer tightly. Wait until steam comes out, take out, filter through cotton.
