The blood and qi of the Foot-Shaoyin (Kidney) meridian manifest their luster in the hair. When the blood and qi of the Foot-Shaoyang (Gallbladder) meridian are abundant, the eyebrows are beautiful. When the blood and qi of the Foot-Yangming (Stomach) meridian are abundant, the beard is beautiful. When the blood and qi of all meridians are abundant, the eyebrows, sideburns, and hair will all be beautiful and lustrous. If the blood and qi are deficient, sparse, or exhausted, the hair will turn yellow or white and fail to grow. If wind-pathogens invade the meridians, altering the flow of blood and qi, these conditions will arise.
Songye Gao (Pine Needle Ointment) [from *Taiping Shenghui Fang*]: Treats the failure of eyebrows, hair, and beard to grow due to blood deficiency attacked by wind-heat.

Spit out saliva and nasal discharge; do not swallow. Continue this for half a year. White hair turns black; fallen hair regrows. Highly effective. Avoid raw garlic, radishes, and spicy foods.
Songzhi Gao (Pine Resin Ointment) [from *Taiping Shenghui Fang*]: Treats failure of eyebrows, hair, and beard to grow.
Ingredients: Songzhi (Resina Pini, Pine Resin), Er liang; Fuzi (Radix Aconiti lateral preparata), Er liang, remove Pi Qi, use raw; Manjingzi (Fructus Viticis exaltatae), Ban jin (half a jin). Ingredients: Baiye (Cacumen Platycladi), Qie Jin jin (Sliced, one jin); Fuzi (Radix Aconiti lateral preparata), Er liang, remove Pi Qi, use raw. Grind into powder. Mix with Zhuzhi (Pork lard) to make twenty pills. Take one pill daily. Dissolve in Mi Gan (Rice wash water) and wash the area. Use daily. New hair will grow after ten days. Wrap remaining medicine in cotton and store in a sealed container to prevent gas leakage.
