Adzuki beans. Place in a container and steam over a rice steamer until cooked. Take one bean, squeeze out the juice, and drip it into the patient's ear. Twice daily.
Jiaomu Wan (Pepper Seed Pill). Treats deafness and ear blockage.
Jiaomu (Pepper Seed, *Zanthoxyli Fructus*) (49 seeds) Badou (Croton Seed, *Crotonis Fructus*) (3 seeds, used with skin). Grind the above ingredients together evenly. Mix with rice flour to form pills the size of a jujube pit. Wrap in cotton wool and insert into the deaf ear at night.
Ji Luan Fang (Chicken Egg Formula). Treats deafness; for ear dripping.
Fresh chicken egg (1 unit) Badou (Croton Seed, *Crotonis Fructus*) (1 seed, skin, core, and membrane removed). First, make a small hole at the top of the egg and insert the Croton Seed into the egg. Seal with two layers of paper paste. Let the hen incubate it until she hatches other eggs. Extract the juice and drip into the ear. Two to three times daily. Cure within five to seven days.
Huma You Gao (Sesame Oil Ointment). Treats deafness; for ear dripping.
Huma You (Sesame Oil, *Sesami Oleum*) (1 he) Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, *Aucklandiae Radix*) (soaked in vinegar overnight, dried, pounded into powder, half liang). Place the above ingredients in a silver vessel. Simmer gently over low heat for three to five boils. Filter through cotton cloth to remove dregs. Drip into the ear as needed, until cured.
Lushen Yin (Deer Kidney Drink). Treats deafness caused by deficiency of Kidney Qi.
Lushen (Deer Kidney, *Cervi Renes*) (1 pair, fat membrane removed) Jingmi (Glutinous Rice, *Oryza Glutinosa*) (2 he). Cut the ingredients. Add 2 he of Jingmi to Douzhi (Fermented Soybean Juice, *Sojae Fermentatum*) and cook into porridge. Season according to the Five Flavors method. Eat on an empty stomach. Can be prepared as soup or wine.
Changpu San (Acorus Powder). Treats deafness, sudden pain and hearing loss. (Also known as Changpu Wan).
Changpu (Acorus Tatarinowii Rhizome, *Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma*) (2 liang) Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, *Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata*) (2 liang, processed). Pounded and sifted the above ingredients. Mix with Kujiu (Vinegar, *Acetum*) to form pills the size of a jujube pit. Wrap in cotton wool and insert into the ear before sleep. Change once nightly. After ten days, if yellow fluid discharges, it will cure. Another method: mix with Sesame Oil and drip into the ear. Another method: grind into powder, take 1 qian each time, wrap in cotton wool and insert into both ears.
Chuanxiong Tang (Ligusticum Decoction). Treats deafness due to Qi obstruction.
Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome, *Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma*) (half liang) Qiuyin (Earthworm, *Pheretima*) (half liang, not yet emerged from soil). Grind into powder. Take 2-3 qian per dose, decoct with Maidong Tang (Ophiopogon Decoction, *Ophiopogonis Decoctio*). Take before bed. Bury head and lie prone to sleep. Three doses over three nights yield immediate effect.
Treats deafness and relieves ear pain.
Renzhongbai (Calcinatus Human Feces, *Calcinatus Hominis Excrementum*) (1 fen) Dilong (Pheretima, *Pheretima*) (1 unit, dried). Grind into powder. Mix with 1 he of donkey foal manure. Store in a porcelain box. Drip a small amount into the ear. Immediate cure.
Treats deafness.
Take Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, *Atractylodis Rhizoma*), a piece 7 fen long. Sharpen one end, flatten the other. Insert the sharp end into the ear. Place a moxa cone the size of a joint on the flat end.
Another formula.
Put carp brain into a bamboo tube and steam it where rice is being steamed until semi-melted. Inject into the ear. Another method: use raw carp brain, wrap in cotton wool and insert into the ear. Another method: drip carp bile into the ear. All are effective.
Another formula.
Heat iron until red-hot and throw it into wine to drink. Meanwhile, plug the ear with Magnetitum (Magnetite, *Magnetitum*). Change once daily. Remove at night, replace in the morning.

Crush Mustard Seed (Sinapis Semen, *Sinapis Semen*) and mix with male infant's milk. Wrap in cotton wool and insert into the ear.

Extract juice from Chaihu seedlings (*Bupleuri Herba*) and pour into the ear. Cure after two applications.

Dig a pit capable of holding about 2 sheng. Place charcoal fire inside. The pit should resemble a cellar. Cover the mouth with bricks and make a hole large enough for a little finger. Place 1 jin of Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix, *Rehmanniae Radix*) on the hole. Cover with a water basin and seal with mud to prevent leakage. Drill a small hole in the bottom of the basin, large enough for a chopstick. Cover this hole with three layers of cloth. Position the ear opening over the basin hole for prolonged fumigation. If stuffy and yellow fluid flows, wrap salt in hair and insert into the ear. Within two or three sessions, miraculous effect.
Another formula.
Pound Douchi (Fermented Soybeans, *Sojae Semen Preparatum*) into cakes and fill the ear. Take Dihuang 5-6 fen long, sharpen one end, and insert into the ear level with the Douchi cake. Cover the cake with Qiu Ye (Chinese Catalpa Leaf, *Catalpae Folium*). Carve a hole through the cake like a chopstick head. Moxibustion: apply three cones on top.
Another formula.
Make a clay cake, thickness similar to wonton skin. Cover the ear, ensuring no air leaks. Directly above the ear canal, pierce the clay cake with a grass stem to create a small hole. Moxibustion: apply 100 cones. Stop when pain becomes unbearable. Yellow fluid will drain from the ear; discharge completely for cure. If the clay dries during moxibustion, replace it multiple times.

Cut an arrow shaft 2 cun long and insert into the ear. Seal the four sides with flour paste to prevent air leakage. Apply seven moxa cones on top.

Hold one piece of Gancao (Licorice Root, *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*) in the mouth. Plug the ear with two pieces (of unspecified material, likely referring to previous context or omitted), wrap in cotton wool. Immediate patency.
Nao Xuan Fang (Brain Ventilation Formula). Treats deafness.
Use uncavitated Zaojiao (Tamarindi Fructus, *Tamarindi Fructus*), remove skin and strings, honey-roast and crush. Rub in water to form thick juice, boil into paste. Snuff into the nose. Bite a chopstick in the mouth until saliva flows.
Tou Cong San (Through Scallion Powder). Treats deafness.
Use one Quanxie (Scorpio, *Scorpio*) to remove venom. Wrap in fresh Bohe Ye (Menthae Haplocalycis Folium, *Menthae Haplocalycis Folium*). Roast over fire into powder. Place powder inside garden scallion leaves. Tie leaf ends tightly with thin cotton. Leave overnight. Next day, tear open scallion leaf and drip juice into the deaf ear.
Jiang Xie San (Ginger and Scorpion Powder). Treats deafness with Qi blockage, Kidney deficiency, etc.
Use 49 Quanxie (Scorpio, *Scorpio*), remove tail stinger, soak wet. Spread 0.5 sheng of Nuomi (Glutinous Rice, *Oryza Glutinosa*) on a large tile. Place scorpions on rice. Bake until rice turns yellow. Three to five days prior, take Heixi Dan (Black Tin Pill, *Plumbi Acetati Composita*) 3-5 doses daily. Before taking medicine, eat half-full dinner. Adjust dosage based on alcohol tolerance; do not get drunk. Take with wine. Let patient sleep, do not wake them. Let them sleep soundly. Then call softly. If they cannot hear, brew strong Congbai Tang (Scallion White Decoction, *Allii Fistulosi Decoctio*) and have them drink. Ears will ring. At Wugeng (3-5 AM), hear sounds like dozens of sheng pipes playing; hearing will return. Alternative: do not use glutinous rice; stir-fry in silver or porcelain vessel.
Manjing Jiu (Vitex Wine). Treats deafness.
Stir-fry Manjingzi (Viticis Fructus, *Viticis Fructus*) lightly, 1 sheng. Soak in 2 sheng of wine. Cold weather: 7 days. Hot weather: 3 days. Strain. Drink freely. Even long-term deafness can be cured.
Formula for treating deafness.
Take one sheet of wax paper, cut into four pieces. Roll each piece tightly around a chopstick. Remove chopstick. Insert wax paper roll into ear and ignite. When fire approaches ear, remove immediately. Evil matter will discharge onto residual paper. Stir once daily. Seal with wax after stirring.
Another formula.
Hold an iron ring in the mouth. Place a piece of Magnetitum (Magnetite, *Magnetitum*) as a pillow near the deaf ear. Continue for over ten days until Qi connects, then stop.

Wrap Tiesha (Iron Filings, *Ferrum*) in cotton wool and insert into ear. Hold Magnetitum (Magnetite, *Magnetitum*) in mouth. Immediate cure.

Take brain marrow from a live rat. Wrap in cotton wool and insert into ear.
Method for treating deafness.
Wrap 0.5 cun of Gansui (Kansui Radix, *Kansui Radix*) in cotton wool and insert into both ears. Chew Gancao (Licorice Root, *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*) in mouth. Hearing will naturally restore.
Lv Zhi Fang (Donkey Fat Formula, also Lv Gao). Treats chronic deafness.
Use fresh Lv Zhi (Donkey Fat, *Asini Corii Colla* - note: text says fat, usually collagen is skin, but here specifies fat/lipid). Mix with Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger, *Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens*) and pound熟 (cooked). Wrap in cotton wool and insert into ear. Can hear after several applications. Alternative: uses Jiaoziren (Sichuan Pepper Fruit, *Zanthoxyli Fructus*) instead of ginger. Some report ear itching, once daily, painful, picking until bleeding brings slight relief. This is due to Kidney deficiency causing floating toxicity to attack upward; difficult to treat with standard methods. Should take Toushui Dan (Water-Penetrating Pill, *Aquae Penetrantis Pilula*). Avoid alcohol and certain foods.
