In cases of Mai Ji (Pulse Extremity), the pathology is primarily associated with the Heart. The Heart governs the blood vessels, and the vessels are harmonized with the Heart. If disease originates in the Heart, it often manifests through changes in the pulse. It is also said that contracting pathogenic factors during summer leads to Mai Bi (Pulse Bi Syndrome). If Mai Bi persists untreated, it results in alterations in complexion, abnormal pulse qi, muscle disorders, and patterns of deficiency and excess. If the pulse qi ceases, the condition is incurable, and death will occur within three days. How is this known? Because empty pulse qi leads to a withered complexion and hair loss. The pulse corresponds to the Hand-Shaoyin (Heart Meridian); if the Qi of the Hand-Shaoyin ceases, the vessel pathways become obstructed, and the blood perishes first.
