[Supplementary Discussion]
The condition known as Qicao (a type of skin tumor, resembling a date pit) arises from excessive fear, worry, and overthinking, combined with incessant weeping. These factors generate residual toxins that transform into the disease. Initially, it appears on the neck, lacking distinct head or tail, resembling a date pit. It may migrate within the subcutaneous tissue, causing alternating chills and fever, along with chest fullness. Its root lies in the Heart.
Formulas
Fanshi Baizhu San (Alum and Atractylodes Powder) [Source: *Qianjin Fang*]. Treats Qicao. Symptoms include initial onset below the neck, without head or tail, resembling a date pit, with lumps migrating under the skin, causing alternating chills and fever and chest fullness. This condition results from emotional fluctuations and weeping, with its root in the Heart. Alum serves as the sovereign herb, and Baizhu as the minister herb.
Ingredients: Fanshi (Alumen), Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Kongqing (Azurite), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (each 3 fen); Xixin (Asari Radix) (1 liang); [Missing character, likely Gui], alternatively Gan Rougui (Dried Cinnamon Bark) (1 liang); Banmao (Mylabris) (1 fen, remove head, feet, and wings, stir-fry with glutinous rice until yellow); Gouqi (Lycii Fructus) [or alternatively Gouqigen (Lycii Radicis Cortex)]; Dichaon (Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix) (each 1 fen, remove head, feet, and wings, stir-fry with glutinous rice until yellow); Gan Wunaozhi (Dried Ura Brain Fat) (approx. size of two beans).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above herbs and sieve them. Take one fangcunbi (a measure approx. 2.74 ml) of powder with vinegar sauce, three times daily. If the lesion is located superiorly, lie on your side; if inferiorly, sleep with a high pillow to facilitate the downward flow of the medicine. Avoid raw vegetables, peaches, plums, sparrow meat, raw blood, and other "fa wu" (stimulating foods that may exacerbate disease).
Xuanshen San (Scrophulariae Powder) [Source: *Shenghui Fang*]. Treats Qicao presenting as tubercles with swelling and pain.
Ingredients: Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix) (2 liang); Chuan Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (2 liang); Duohuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) (2 liang); Han Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix) (1 liang); Gan Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos) (1 liang); Liaoqiao (Forsythiae Fructus) (3 liang); Xijiaoxie (Rhinocerotis Cornu) (0.5 liang); Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 liang, sliced and lightly stir-fried until yellow).
Preparation and Administration: Cut the herbs into small pieces. Take 4 qian per dose, add 1 zhong of water, decoct until 6 fen remains, strain, and take warm before meals.
Kongqing San (Azurite Powder) [Source: *Shenghui Fang*]. Treats Qicao arising on the neck, resembling a date pit, remaining in the subcutaneous tissue without dissipating, forming swollen, painful knots.
Ingredients: Kongqing (Azurite) (3 fen, calcined and finely ground); Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (3 fen); Xixin (Asari Radix) (3 fen); Gouqigen (Lycii Radicis Cortex) (3 fen); [Missing character, likely Gui], roasted until yellow (3 fen); Gan Wunaozhi (Dried Ura Brain Fat) (3 fen, bean-sized); Banmao (Mylabris) (1 fen, remove head, feet, and wings, stir-fry with glutinous rice until yellow); Dichaon (Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix) (1 fen, remove head, feet, and wings, stir-fry with glutinous rice until yellow).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into a fine powder. Take 1 qian per dose, mixed with warm fermented grain water, before meals.
Xijiao Wan (Rhinoceros Horn Pill). Treats Qicao.
Another Formula [Source: *Shenghui Fang*]
Ingredients: Woniu Ke (Helicis Costata Shell) (1 liang, stir-fried with half sheng of cow's milk until yellow, then finely ground); Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (3 fen, pounded into powder).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into a fine powder. Take 1 qian per dose daily on an empty stomach, mixed with warm wine. Malignant substances will subsequently be discharged via stool.
