The condition known as Furu Ju (Floating Carbuncle) is caused by anger and emotional stagnation, combined with excessive and repetitive mental exertion. At the onset, lesions initially appear on the neck and nape, or may also occur in the axilla. They resemble the width of two fingers, lacking distinct heads or tails, causing chills and fever, and a frequent desire to vomit. The root of this pathology lies in the Gallbladder channel.
Formulas
Shanglu San (Celandine Powder), sourced from *Shenghui Fang*, treats Floating Carbuncles. Symptoms include swelling and hardness resembling a finger, either on the neck or in the axilla, which eventually ulcerate and discharge pus after a prolonged period.
Ingredients: Radix Phytolaccae (Shanglu, 1 liang), Azurite (Zengqing, 3 fen, finely ground), Radix Scutellariae (Huangqin, 1 liang), Radix Saposhnikoviae (Fangfeng, 1 liang, remove rhizome), Alumen (Baijian, 1 liang, calcined until liquid evaporates), Radix Ginseng (Renshen, 1 liang, remove rhizome), Herba Cirsii Japonici (Xiaoji Gen, 1 liang), Melanterite (Shidan, 1 fen, finely ground), Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao, 1 liang, sliced and slightly roasted until reddish), Orpiment (Ci Huang, 1 liang, finely ground), Radix Paeoniae Rubra (Chishaoyao, 1 liang), Radix Angelicae Dahuricae (Baizhi, 1 liang), Cortex Cinnamomi (Guixin, 1 liang), Rhizoma Anemarrhenae (Zhimu, 1 liang), Radix Platycodonis (Jiegeng, remove rhizome, 1 liang), Realgar (Xionghuang, 1 liang, finely ground), Fox Bone (Li Gu, 1 liang, roasted until yellow), Gengxing Fanshi (1 liang, calcined red and quenched in vinegar seven times), Eupolyphaga Steleophaga (Dichan, 1 fen, remove head, feet, and wings, stir-fry with glutinous rice until rice turns yellow, discard rice), Mylabris (Banmao, 10 pieces, remove head, feet, and wings, stir-fry with glutinous rice until yellow). Process all ingredients into a fine powder, mix with the already ground substances, and grind uniformly. Take one spoonful mixed with light vinegar on an empty stomach daily and before bedtime after dinner. Recovery signs appear within thirty days; full recovery occurs within seventy days. Severe cases may require one hundred days to cease suffering. Initially, take a smaller dose; excessive dosage causes dysuria (profuse urination). If dysuria occurs, reduce the dosage.
Dichan Gancao San (Eupolyphaga and Licorice Powder), sourced from *Qianjin Fang*, treats Floating Carbuncles. Symptoms begin as lesions on the neck, size of two fingers, causing chills, fever, and lethargy. This condition arises from excessive worry and mental distress, with its root in the Gallbladder. Dichan serves as the principal herb, and Gancao acts as the assistant.
Ingredients: Eupolyphaga Steleophaga (Dichan, 3 fen, prepare as above), Realgar (Xionghuang), Rhizoma Zingiberis (Ganjiang), Radix Dipsaci (Xuduan), Concha Arcae (Shijueming), Radix Gentianae Longdancao (Gen), Radix Gentianae (Longdan) (each 3 fen), Radix Asari (Xixin, 2 fen), Radix et Rhizoma Rhei (Dahuang, 0.5 fen), Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao, 1 fen). Process and sieve the herbs, then apply topically to the wound four to five times daily. Historical records vary: some versions substitute Sulfur (Liuhuang) for Realgar; *Waitai Miyao* omits Gancao and includes raw vegetables; another version omits Realgar and includes Shizhong Huangzi.

Xijiao San (Rhinoceros Horn Powder), sourced from *Shenghui Fang*, treats Floating Carbuncles. Symptoms include lesions between the neck and axilla, size of two fingers, presenting as hard, painful nodules with alternating chills and fever in the limbs.
Ingredients: Cornu Rhinocerotis (Xijiao Xie, 1 liang), Caulis Akebiae (Mutong, 1.5 liang, sliced), Radix Paeoniae Rubra (Chishaoyao, 1.5 liang), Radix Bupleuri (Chaihu, 1.5 liang, remove sprouts), Radix Platycodonis (Jiegeng, 1.5 liang, remove rhizome), Fructus Forsythiae (Lianqiao, 1 liang), Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae (Zhike, 1.5 liang, bran-roasted until slightly yellow, remove pith), Fructus Arctii (Ensai, 1 liang, roasted until yellow), Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao, 0.5 fen, sliced and slightly roasted until reddish). Xijiao Wan (Rhinoceros Horn Pills), sourced from *Shenghui Fang*, treats Floating Carbuncles.
Ingredients: Cornu Rhinocerotis (Xijiao Xie, 1 fen), Hirudo (Shuizhi, 1 fen, lightly roasted until yellow), Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao, 1 fen, sliced and slightly roasted until reddish), Semen Sojae Preparatum (Heidou, 0.5 he, roasted熟 and peeled). Process into a fine powder, mix with refined honey, and form pills the size of mung beans. Take three pills with warm wine on an empty stomach daily. By the third day, foul matter should be discharged in the urine, indicating the expulsion of pathogenic factors. Discharge will cease naturally when complete. Do not stop medication if discharge continues; continue until complete expulsion. This method is highly effective.
