After parturition, pain caused by the struggle between blood and qi is termed "Jia" (mass). The term "Jia" implies a false or shifting nature, referring to pain that floats without a fixed location. This condition arises from pre-existing wind-cold pathogens in the body, which obstruct the flow of qi and blood; in severe cases, it leads to complete obstruction.
It is also stated that during pregnancy, blood accumulates. After delivery, when the body is weak and lochia remains unexcreted, newly generated blood struggles with residual stasis, causing pain. Commonly known as "child's pillow," this is essentially Blood Jia.
Formulas
Lingxiao Hua San (Campsis Powder): Treats Blood Jia, blood masses, and postpartum lochia retention accompanied by accumulation and pain, gradually leading to consumptive emaciation. All these conditions are treated by this formula.
Campsis Flower (1 fen), Cortex Moutan Radicis (Mudanpi), Fructus Gardeniae Jasminoidis (Shanzhizi), Radix Paeoniae Rubra (Chishaoyao), Xuejie (Dragon's Blood), Placenta Humana (Ziheche), Myrrha (Moyao), Realgar (Shashi), Cortex Lycii Radicis (Digupi), Cortex Acanthopanacis Senticosi (Wujiapi).
Grind into fine powder, take with warm water.
Ganxi Wan (Dry Lacquer Pill) [Source: *Taiping Shenghui Fang*]: Treats postpartum firm and accumulated Blood Jia, which feels pulsating upon pressure; diet fails to nourish muscles; sallow complexion; intolerance to labor; vomiting.
Dried Lacquer Resin (2 liang, crushed and stir-fried until smoke appears), Rhizoma et Radix Rhei (Chuan Dahuang, 2 liang, sliced and slightly stir-fried), Semen Platycladi (Baiziren, 1 liang), Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae (Niuxi, 1 liang, radix removed), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen...), Radix Paeoniae Alba (Shaoyao, 1 liang), Ramulus Cinnamomi (Guixin... roasted, cracked, and sliced), Moschus (Shexiang, 1 fen, ground in), Blatta orientalis (Mengchong...).
Make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 10 pills daily on an empty stomach with hot wine.
Zi Wan [Source: *Taiping Shenghui Fang*]: Treats incomplete expulsion of residual blood after childbirth, forming Blood Jia; irregular menstruation; emaciated limbs; loss of appetite.
