Di Dan (Mylabris, *Lytta caraganae*) thirty-two pieces (remove head and feet), Ban Mao (Mylabris, *Mylabris phalerata*) fifty pieces (remove head, wings, and feet), Yan Chi (Fermented Soybean, *Sojae Semen Preparatum*) seventy pieces, Qing Fen (Calomel, *Hydrargyri Chloridum*) half qian as coating. The above four ingredients: crush the first three, mix with Calomel, and make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take seven pills each time, administered with urine from an uncircumcised boy; effect is immediate. Also treats hernia in men and women accompanied by pain in the lower abdomen and umbilicus. Take one pill each time, administered with warm wine.
Jin Ling San (Golden Bell Powder, also known as Chuan Lian Hui Xiang San, from *Experience Formula*), treats diseases caused by Qi of the Small Intestine, Bladder, and Kidney. Swelling of the external genitalia, blockage in the lower body.
Chuan Lian Zi (Szechwan Chinaberry Fruit, *Meliae Fructus*) ten pieces, each sliced into four parts, stir-fried with salt water (use together with salt); Bo Shang Hui Xiang (Fennel Fruit, *Foeniculi Fructus*) stir-fried with salt water until fragrant (do not use salt), equal parts with Chuan Lian Zi and Mu Xiang (Aucklandia Root, *Aucklandiae Radix*). Ba Dou (Croton Seed, *Crotonis Fructus*) remove shell and heart, boil in vinegar until dry. Use one cup of good wine, decoct to 70%, strain, and take warm on an empty stomach. This disease is caused by accumulation of cold-dampness; this formula purges accumulated pathogens.
Treating Hernia:
Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger Rhizome, *Zingiberis Rhizoma*), Liang Jiang (Galangal Rhizome, *Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma*), Chen Pi (Tangerine Peel, *Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium*), Qing Pi (Green Tangerine Peel, *Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride*) (each 3 liang). Crush the above herbs into powder, make pills with rice paste the size of paulownia seeds. Take 60-70 pills each time on an empty stomach.
Treating invasion of cold-dampness causing lower abdominal pain or swelling and pain of external genitalia. (From *Experience Formula*)
Gao Liang Jiang (Highland Galangal Rhizome, *Alpiniae Katsumadai Rhizoma*), Shan Zhi Zi (Gardenia Fruit, *Gardeniae Fructus*), Yu Jin (Curcuma Tuber, *Curcumae Longae Radix*) (each half liang). Crush into fine powder, take 2 qian mixed with green onion soup on an empty stomach.
Xuan Fu Tang (Black Pepper and Prepared Aconite Decoction, from *Cun Ren Formula*), treats seven types of hernia. Cold pain in heart and abdomen, borborygmus with moving Qi, chills with spontaneous sweating, loose stools.
Xuan Hu Suo (Corydalis Rhizome, *Corydzidis Rhizoma*) stir-fried and peeled, Fu Zi (Prepared Aconite Root, *Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata*) prepared, peeled, and navel removed (each 1 liang), Mu Xiang (Vladimiria Root, *Vladimiriae Radix*) not exposed to fire (half liang). Cut the above herbs coarsely. Take 4 qian each time, decoct with one cup of water to 70%, strain, and take warm on an empty stomach.
Chuan Lian Zi Wan (Szechwan Chinaberry Pill), treats all diseases of the lower body. Reduces swelling and pain; even for chronic cases, taking this medicine cures the root cause permanently.
Chuan Lian Zi (Szechwan Chinaberry Fruit, *Meliae Fructus*) 1 jin, take 4 liang of clean flesh, stir-fry with one he of bran and 49 Ban Mao (Myabris, *Mylabris phalerata*) until bran turns yellow; discard bran and Ban Mao; Ba Ji Tian (Morinda Root, *Morindae Officinalis Radix*) remove heart; Po Gu Zhi (Psoralea Fruit, *Psoraleae Fructus*) stir-fried with salt; Ba Jiao Hui Xiang (Star Anise Fruit, *Illicii Veri Fructus*) stir-fried with salt; Hei Qian Niu (Black Morning Glory Seed, *Pharbitidis Semen*) head end powder, stir-fried. Crush into powder, make pills with wine paste the size of paulownia seeds. Take 30 pills each time on an empty stomach with warm wine.
Yu Gong San (Yu Gong Powder)
Hei Qian Niu Tou Mo (Black Morning Glory Seed Head End Powder, *Pharbitidis Semen*) 4 liang, Hui Xiang (Fennel Fruit, *Foeniculi Fructus*) stir-fried 1 liang, optionally add Mu Xiang (Aucklandia Root, *Aucklandiae Radix*) 1 liang. Crush into powder. Mix 3 qian with fresh ginger juice, take before sleep.
Qi Shen Tang (Seven Hernias Decoction), treats seven types of hernia in men. Attacks the lower abdomen, causing acute pulling pain that is unbearable.
Chuan Wu (Chinese Aconite Root, *Aconiti Radix*) prepared, navel and skin removed (half liang), Quan Xie (Scorpion, *Scorpio*) fourteen pieces, detoxified and stir-fried, Yan (Salt, *Natrii Chloridum*) 3 qian stir-fried. Cut the above herbs coarsely. Decoct with one cup of water and seven slices of ginger to 70%, strain, and take warm on an empty stomach.
For any hernia with unilateral descent occurring, if Qi is excess and stool is constipated, use raw Wu Ling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria, *Wuling San*), add Hui Xiang (Fennel Fruit, *Foeniculi Fructus*), Wu Zhu Yu (Evodia Fruit, *Evodiae Fructus*), and a little stir-fried salt. Take 5 qian each time.
Fang Feng San (Saposhnikovia Powder, also known as Mu Dan San), treats hernia with swelling and hardness, unilateral descent, inability to move the large abdomen, restlessness in sitting and lying.
Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root, *Saposhnikoviae Radix*) remove radicle, Mu Dan Pi (Tree Peony Bark, *Moutan Cortex*) remove heart (equal parts). Crush into powder. Take one fang cun bi with wine before meals, three times daily. Treats testicular unilateral descent. One prescription uses one dao gui.
Hu Tao San
Hu Lu Ba (Trigonella Foenum-Graecum Seed, *Trigonellae Semens*), Tao Ren (Peach Kernel, *Persicae Semen*) remove skin and tip, stir-fried. Crush into powder. Mix 2 qian with wine, take before meals.
Qu Ling Wan (Remove Bell Pill), treats Ben Tun (Rushing Pig) hernia, or scrotal swelling.
Chuan Wu Jian (Tip of Chinese Aconite Root, *Aconiti Radix*) seven pieces, raw use; Ba Dou (Croton Seed, *Crotonis Fructus*) seven pieces, remove shell, remove only nine-tenths of oil. Crush into powder, make pills with cake paste the size of paulownia seeds. Coat with Cinnabar (Zhusha, *Cinnabaris*) and Musk (Shexiang, *Moschus*). Take three pills each time on an empty stomach with warm wine.
Shen Ying San (Divine Response Powder), treats various hernias. Severe cramping pain in heart and abdomen, unbearable.
Xuan Hu Suo (Corydalis Rhizome, *Corydzidis Rhizoma*), Hu Jiao (Pepper Fruit, *Piperis Fructus*) (equal parts). Crush into powder. Take 2 qian each time, decoct half cup of wine to 70%, take warm before meals. One prescription uses boiling water to mix.
Xiang Sha Wan
Hui Xiang (Fennel Fruit, *Foeniculi Fructus*) stir-fried with salt until fragrant, remove salt; Xin Can (Silkworm, *Bombyx Batryticatus*) dried (equal parts). Crush into powder, make pills the size of bullet with refined honey. Chew finely on an empty stomach, administer with warm wine.
Hu Tao Wan
Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root, *Saposhnikoviae Radix*), Guan Gui (Cinnamon Twig, *Cinnamomi Ramulus*) spicy variety. Crush into powder. Take 2 qian each time, mix with warm wine. After taking, eat food to suppress vomiting.
Another Prescription:
Li Zhi He (Lychee Seed, *Litchi Semen*), Dong Ju He (Winter Tangerine Seed, *Citri Reticulatae Semen*). Charcoal these until nature remains, crush into fine powder. Mix 1 qian with warm wine.
Yi Wu Tang (Single Herb Decoction), treats Ben Tun hernia. Piercing migrating pain.
La Gui (Cinnamon Twig, *Cinnamomi Ramulus*) 1.5 liang, Qian Niu (Morning Glory Seed, *Pharbitidis Semen*) 1 liang stir-fried. Decoct the above with three sheng of water to obtain 1.5 he, divide into two doses.
Cun Jin Wan (Inch Gold Pill), treats Ben Tun and various hernias causing pain.
Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Root, *Angelicae Sinensis Radix*), Yan Hu Suo (Corydalis Rhizome, *Corydzidis Rhizoma*), Bo Shang Hui Xiang (Fennel Fruit, *Foeniculi Fructus*) stir-fried, Hu Lu Ba (Trigonella Foenum-Graecum Seed, *Trigonellae Semens*) stir-fried (each 1 liang), Tao Ren (Peach Kernel, *Persicae Semen*) soaked, skin removed, baked, Sang Piao Xiao (Mantis Egg Case, *Mantidis Oötheca*) steamed with wine and baked, Chuan Xiong (Sichuan Lovage Rhizome, *Chuanxiong Rhizoma*) (1 liang), Mu Xiang (Vladimiria Root, *Vladimiriae Radix*) (half liang), Ru Xiang (Olibanum, *Boswelliae Resina*) separately ground (1 qian). Crush into powder, make pills with wine paste the size of paulownia seeds. Take 30-50 pills each time on an empty stomach with warm wine.
