Zhuanzhu (Transmitting Calamity) refers to the transmission of disease from a deceased person to others. The manifestations of Zhuanzhu are roughly similar to those of various Zhu diseases (chronic, infectious wasting diseases). Because this disease shifts and moves within the body without fixed patterns, it is called Zhuanzhu.
Formulas:
Niuhuang San (Coral Powder, sourced from *Taiping Shenghui Fang*): Treats possession by evil spirits, mutual contagion, confusion between dreams and waking states, emaciation of the body, alternating chills and fever, and silent irritability.
Ingredients: Niu Huang (Calculus Bovis, finely ground), Guijianyu (Spina Gleditsiae), Wangbuliuxing (Vaccariae Semen), Xuchangqing (Cynanchum Atratum Root), Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix, heart removed), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, processed until cracked), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, processed until cracked, skin and umbilicus removed).
Process the above seven herbs into a fine powder. Take one qian of the powder, mix with one he of Changpu juice (Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii), warm it, and take orally. Time is not restricted; take three times daily. Avoid pork, cold water, raw scallions, mutton, maltose, and vinegar-preserved foods.
Tagan Wan (River Otter Liver Pills, sourced from *Qianjin Fang*): Treats myriad diseases, transmitting calamity contagion, or Huoluan (cholera-like disorder), Zhong'e (sudden severe illness due to evil qi), and Keyu (illness caused by unexpected encounters).
Ingredients: Tan Gan (River Otter Liver, half liang, finely roasted), Xionghuang (Realgar, half liang, finely ground), Mangcao (Herba Siegesbeckiae, half liang, slightly roasted), Zhusha (Cinnabar, half liang, finely ground), Jiubai (Podophyllum Emodi Rhizome, half liang), Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, one piece, slightly roasted).
Process the above six herbs into a powder, mix with refined honey, and make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take an appropriate amount each time, washed down with warm water.
This formula is suitable for treating long-standing Zhu diseases that transmit among people, potentially leading to the extinction of clans. (Sourced from *Taiping Shenghui Fang*)
Ingredients: Xionghuang (Realgar, one and a half liang, finely ground and washed with water), Jiubai (Podophyllum Emodi Rhizome, one liang, whiskers removed), Zhusha (Cinnabar, one liang, finely ground and washed with water), Mangcao (Herba Siegesbeckiae, one liang, slightly roasted), Lili (Veratrum Nigrum Rhizome, one liang, slightly roasted until yellow, rhizome head removed).
Process the above five herbs into a powder, mix with refined honey, and make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take two or three pills on an empty stomach, washed down with warm wine, once daily. Avoid carp, wild game, etc.
Xionghuang Wan (Realgar Pills, sourced from *Taiping Shenghui Fang*): Treats Zhuanzhu, preventing the extinction of family lines, stopping the spread of pathogenic qi internally and externally, and preventing transmission among relatives and friends.
Ingredients: Xionghuang (Realgar, half liang, finely ground), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, one liang, heart removed and baked), Tianmendong (Asparagi Radix, one liang, heart removed and baked), Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus, half liang, black skin removed, roasted in butter until slightly yellow).
Process the above four herbs into a powder, mix with refined honey, and pound 300-200 times. Make pills the size of mung beans. Take two or three pills on an empty stomach, washed down with warm wine, once daily. Avoid carp, wild game, etc.
