Disheng Dabai Gao (Great Ointment to Reach the Spleen): Treats bone fractures, dislocations, and sprains. It alleviates persistent pain, reduces swelling and toxicity, expels pathogenic factors, and relieves pain. It is also indicated for early-stage carbuncles and sores with severe redness, swelling, and pain; as well as for boils, furuncles, and toxic heat manifesting as redness that condenses and binds in the skin, causing acute pain.
Baijiaoxiang (Styrax Tonkinensis, 14 liang, ground into fine powder), Ruxiang (Frankincense, 1 liang, separately ground), Dingfen (Lead Carbonate, 2 liang), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, 6 qian, chopped), Bailian (Ampelopsis Radix, 6 qian, chopped). Take 4 liang of sesame oil, and first decoct Baizhi until it turns scorched yellow, then strain out these two ingredients. Next, add Baijiaoxiang and melt it. Remove from fire to cool slightly, then add Ruxiang and Dingfen. Stir evenly again. Pour into a porcelain vessel. Wait for it to solidify, then seal tightly for storage. When using, warm slowly over low fire to soften. Apply onto paper according to the size of the affected area and paste.
Muxiang Gao (Aquilariae Ointment): Treats all types of blunt trauma injuries. It addresses swelling, pain, stagnant blood that does not dissipate, as well as chronic or recent onset of sores and swellings throughout the body, including widespread hot sores. Application yields miraculous effects.
Muxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, crushed and cut), Binglang (Arecae Semen, pounded and cut), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, thinly sliced, each 1 fen). Use 4 liang of clear sesame oil to decoct the above herbs until they turn scorched yellow. Strain out the herbs. Filter through new cotton cloth to ensure no dregs remain. Then add 1 liang of Huangdan (Litharge) to the oil. Place in a cauldron and refine repeatedly using alternating mild and strong heat. Stir constantly with a willow twig stick. When the smoke turns white, test by dripping one or two drops into a bowl of water; if it forms a pill that does not stick to the hand, the ointment is ready. Pour out immediately.
Jiegu Gao (Bone-Setting Ointment):
Chixiaodou (Adzuki Bean, 3 he), Caowutou (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix, 2 liang), Tiannanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, 1 liang), Shengbaijiang (Fresh Ginger, 1 liang), Bailian (Ampelopsis Radix, 1 liang), Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex, 1 liang), Huangdan (Litharge, 1 qian). Grind all ingredients into powder. Mix with fresh ginger juice to form a paste. Apply to the injured area.
Jiegu Gao (Bone-Setting Ointment): Treats fractures of hands and feet.
Select tender, thin willow twigs. Cut dozens of strips according to the required length. Wrap them in cotton gauze to form a splint. Place this splint on the fractured site and wrap it once around. Secure the end of the cotton. Cut a long strip of good-quality leather paper to fit the height of the willow splint. Spread melted beeswax evenly on the paper, sprinkling Rougui (Cinnamon Twig) powder on top of the wax, to a thickness of about half cun. Wrap the medicinal paper three to four layers around the splint. Finally, bind firmly with soft silk cloth. As the pain gradually subsides and the bones align, normal function will be restored.
For bone fractures, first administer a powder made of equal parts Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Paocaowutou (Prepared Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix), and Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix). Take 2 qian with warm wine. After the body feels slightly numb, proceed with reduction and alignment. Apply a mixture of glutinous rice porridge and Muli (Ostrea Shell) powder to the injury site. Clamp with a fir wood board and bind tightly. Subsequently, it is advisable to take a preparation of Ruxiang (Frankincense), Moyao (Myrrha), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Chuanjiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium), and Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), each 0.5 liang, along with Ziran Tong (Pyritum, 2 qian), ground into powder. Melt 2 liang of beeswax and mix with the powder, stirring constantly until uniform. Form into pills the size of a bullet. Decoct in good wine, heat, and take orally. Lie down according to the painful area. Continue taking several doses over a short period. Additionally, take a powder of equal parts Tiannanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma) and Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), mixed with warm wine and ginger juice, 1 qian per dose. Cover the injury site with this medication. This method is highly effective for treating tetanus (Po Shang Feng).
Shenxian Jiegu Gao (Immortal Bone-Setting Ointment):
Huangdan (Litharge, refined), Miduoseng (Lithargyrum), Ziran Tong (Pyritum, each 4 liang), Chen Sha (Cinnabar), Xuexie (Dragon's Blood), Ruxiang (Frankincense), Moyao (Myrrha, each 1 liang), Huangla (Beeswax), Bai Fan (Alumen, refined), La Yue Zhu Zhi (December Pig Fat, each 13 liang). Use a new pot. First, melt the pig fat and filter out tendons and membranes. Next, add beeswax until it melts into oil. Place the pot in a cool place. Then add Miduoseng, Huangdan, and powdered Ziran Tong. Cook slowly over low heat until a drop does not disperse when tested in water. Remove from heat and place in a cool area. Add the remaining drugs. Stir evenly with a wooden spatula. Pour into a porcelain vessel and stir continuously until it solidifies. Form into pills the size of a bullet. Once completely cooled, store in a glazed porcelain jar coated with oil to prevent spoilage indefinitely. For any fracture, regardless of severity or location, even if the patient appears lifeless but the heart remains warm, divide one pill into fifteen smaller pills. Swallow with warm scallion-infused wine. If swallowing is impossible, grind the pill with warm scallion wine and instill into the mouth. Once ingested, the patient will regain consciousness and sensation, and pain will stabilize. Take ten additional pills, warm them with a little oil until soft, spread on silk cloth, and apply to the painful/injured area. If the injury is large, use more than two pills. This ointment does not adhere to flesh; if necessary, use ordinary adhesive plasters.
Shenyan Gao (Miraculous Efficacy Ointment): Treats blunt trauma injuries where tendons and bones are difficult to move. Effective for limbs, waist, and back.
Nuomifen (Glutinous Rice Flour, 1 he), Guo Fei Mian (Washed Wheat Flour, 1 he), Mapibo (Polyporus Umbellatus, 1 bowl). Mix these three ingredients. Sieve through raw cloth. Mix with half a bowl of fresh ginger juice. Then add the following:
Niujiao (Asini Corii Colla, 3.5 liang), Suan Mi Cu (Sour Rice Vinegar, 1 bowl). First, dissolve Niujiao in vinegar. Then add the previously mixed three ingredients. Stir constantly until a paste forms. Store in a porcelain vessel. Upon injury, spread the ointment on paper, apply to the wound, clamp with fir wood slices, and wrap with thick clothing to keep warm. Change every three days. If only tendons and bones are injured, a burning sensation upon application is expected. If tendons are damaged and bones are shattered, a sensation like insects crawling upon application is auspicious. Initial fractures typically show efficacy after three applications.
Yingtong Gao (Pain-Relieving Ointment): Treats severe traumatic pain.
Bai Binglang (White Areca Nut, 2 pieces), Baidoukou (White Cardamom, 1 piece), Guanzi Gui (Official Cinnamon, 0.5 liang), Liuzhi (Willow Branch, 1 fen), Mugua Zi (Strychnos Semens, 20 pieces), Xiang Baizhi (Fragrant Angelica Root, 3 qian), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 liang), Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos, 3 qian), Tiannanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, 1 piece), Baifuzi (Typhonii Rhizoma, 1 liang), Hei Fuzi (Black Prepared Aconite Root, 1 large piece), Huangla (Beeswax, sufficient amount). Grind all ingredients into powder. For every 1 liang of beeswax, use 1 liang of herb powder. Simmer together in a cauldron until purple flowers appear. While the medicine is hot, pour it into a basin containing one cup of well water. Pull and stretch the medicine with hands until it becomes soft and pliable, ensuring no hard lumps remain. Shape into cakes and wrap around the injured area. After three days, reheat the used medicine on fire, gather it into a ball, reshape into a cake, and reapply to the old injury site.
