Women, due to a deficiency in constitution, are susceptible to Wind pathogen. The pathogenic Qi lodges in the skin and subcutaneous tissue. When confronted by Cold and Wind interacting with each other, Feng Sao Yin Zhen (Wind-induced urticaria/pruritus) arises. If the rash is red, it is caused by the interaction of Cool-Dampness with the muscle layer.
Q: Generally, for treating women who suffer from recurrent generalized pruritus, or presenting with red and swollen Yin Zhen (urticaria), five-center heat (heat sensation in palms, soles, and chest), and Blood-Wind attacking and settling, one may administer Ren Shen Jing Cai San (Ginseng and Schizonepeta Powder), Xiao Feng San (Eliminate Wind Powder), or Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction). For those who are deficient and elderly, however, taking... [text incomplete].
Shuo Di Gao (Dioscorea Hypoglauca Ointment): Treats Feng Sao in women, characterized by body pruritus and the emergence of Yin Zhen (urticaria), which persists despite prolonged treatment.
Ingredients: Shuo Di Gen (Radix Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae, 2 liang), Bai Ji Li (Fructus Tribuli), Du Huo (Radix Angelicae Pubescentis), Sheng Fu Zi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, peeled and navel removed), Fang Feng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Xi Jiao Xie (Hornis Rhinocerotis Cortex), Lou Lu (Radix Euphorbiae Humifusae), Xiang Bai Zhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae), Ku Shen (Radix Sophorae Flavescentis), Chuan Xiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong) (each 2 liang). Finely chop the above herbs and decoct into an ointment. When the color turns yellow-red, the ointment is ready.
Ji Li San (Tribulus Powder): Treats Feng Sao in women, where the skin feels as if insects are crawling, accompanied by Yin Zhen (urticaria). Scratching leads to sores. Symptoms include facial swelling and mental restlessness.
Ingredients: Bai Ji Li (Fructus Tribuli, lightly stir-fried and thorns removed), Ling Yang Jiao Xie (Cornu Saigae Tataricae, each 3 qian), Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae), Xi Xin (Herba Asari), Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, radix removed), Ku Shen (Radix Sophorae Flavescentis), She Chuang Zi (Fructus Cnidii), Qin Jiao (Radix Gentianae Macrophyllae), Zhi Ke (Fructus Aurantii, bran-fried until slightly yellow, pith removed). Sift the above herbs into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose, decoct with 1 zhong zhan (approx. 200ml) of water until reduced to 6 fen (approx. 120ml), strain, and take warm at any time.
Mang Cao San (Metasperma Powder): Treats Feng Sao Yin Zhen in women, with generalized pruritus feeling like insects crawling. Episodes may occur intermittently.
Ingredients: Mang Cao (Herba Daphnes), Ma Huang (Herba Ephedrae, roots and joints removed), Sha Shen (Radix Glehniae), Bai Ji Li (Fructus Tribuli, lightly stir-fried and thorns removed), Tian Men Dong (Radix Asparagi, hearts removed, each 3 qian). Sift the above herbs into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose, decoct with 1 zhong zhan of water until reduced to 6 fen, strain, and take warm at any time.
Wu She Wan (Black Snake Pill): Treats Feng Sao in women. Upon onset, Yin Zhen (urticaria) appears on the head and face skin; scratching causes sores.
Ingredients: Wu She Rou (Sarcosoma Elap Carinatae, stir-fried with wine until yellow), Bai Ji Li (Fructus Tribuli, lightly stir-fried and thorns removed), Ku Shen (Radix Sophorae Flavescentis, crushed, each 1.5 liang), Sha Shen (Radix Glehniae), Qin Jiao (Radix Gentianae Macrophyllae, radix removed), Fu Zi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, cracked, peeled and navel removed, 1 liang). Grind the above herbs into powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of tung tree seeds. Take 20 pills per dose, wash down with warm wine.
Mang Cao Gao (Metasperma Ointment): Treats Feng Sao in women, with Yin Zhen (urticaria) appearing all over the body and itching; swelling occurs immediately upon scratching.
Ingredients: Mang Cao (Herba Daphnes, 2 fen), Ku Shen (Radix Sophorae Flavescentis, 2 liang), Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Xiong Dui (likely referring to Chuan Xiong, Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Da Ji (Radix Euphorbiae Humifusae), Xi Xin (Herba Asari), Yuan Hua (Flos Genkwa), Chuan Jiao (Pericarpium Zanthoxyli), Fu Zi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata), Zhi Zhu Hua (Flos Rhododendri Mollis), Jing Tian (Herba Sedis Acre). Place the above herbs in a porcelain vessel, soak in oil, and simmer slowly. Strain the dregs, add beeswax until melted, and form an ointment.
Lin Zhan Fang (Pouring and Dipping Prescription): Treats Feng Sao Yin Zhen in women, with incessant body pruritus.
Ingredients: Ma Lan (Herba Kalanchoe Pinnata), Shuo Di Gen (Radix Dioscoreae Hypoglauciae), Chong Wei Zi (Fructus Leonuri), Bai Fan (Alumen), Yang Tao Gen (Radix Rubi Chingii), Bai Ji Li (Fructus Tribuli), Yin Yu (Herba Typhonii), Ling Xiao Hua (Flos Campsis), each 2 liang; Bi Ma Ye (Folium Ricini), 1 liang. Decoct the above herbs in 1 dou (approx. 10L) of water until 5 sheng (approx. 5L) remain. Strain the dregs. Soak cotton cloth in the liquid and wipe the affected area.
Another Prescription:
Ingredients: She Chuang Zi (Fructus Cnidii, 0.5 jin), Jing Tian (Herba Sedis Acre, 0.5 jin), Ji Li Zi (Fructus Tribuli, 0.5 jin). Decoct the above herbs in 1 dou of water until 5 sheng remain. Strain the dregs. Soak cotton cloth in the liquid and wipe.
Another Prescription:
Ingredients: Ling Xiao Hua (Flos Campsis, 3 liang), Shuo Di Gen (Radix Dioscoreae Hypoglauciae, 0.5 jin, crushed). Decoct the above herbs in 7 sheng of water until 3 sheng remain. Filter out the dregs. Add 2 liang of powdered Bai Fan (Alumen), mix well, and apply with a cotton swab.
Another Prescription:
Crush Jing Tian (Herba Sedis Acre), squeeze out the juice, and apply to the affected area.
Another Prescription:
Grind Bai Fan (Alumen) using vinegar and fermented grain water, and apply to the affected area.
Treating Yin Zhen (Urticaria):
Use Bai Mi (Mel, white honey) in any amount, mixed with good wine and taken orally. This has been tested and proven effective.
Treating Skin Wind-Heat causing generalized Yin Zhen (Urticaria):
Ingredients: Niu Bang Zi (Fructus Arctii, boiled for 1 liang, cleaned, sun-dried, and stir-fried until fragrant), Fu Ping (Herba Lemnae, steamed, dried, equal parts). Grind the above herbs into a fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with Bo He Tang (Mentha Decoction).
Treating Women's Wind-Toxic Pruritus and Yin Zhen (Urticaria):
Powder the flowers and leaves of Cang Er Zi (Fructus Xanthii) and take 2 qian with Dou Lin Jiu (Bean-leavened Wine) for cure. Another method for treating pruritus caused by Wind-Qi entering the skin uses roasted Feng Fang (Nidus Vespae) and Chan Tui (Exuviation Cicadae)... [text incomplete].
