The patient loves to laugh. The waist and back are stiff and tight. The hands and feet are rigid. The mouth is dry, and sores appear on the tongue. The pulse at the cun, guan, and chi positions (three positions of the radial artery) is chaotic. This is Feng Huang (Jaundice caused by Wind pathogen). First, moxa the Feishu (BL13, Lung Shu) acupoint, then moxa the acupoints beside the third thoracic vertebra.
Ting Tian Formula: Mahuang Tang (Ephedra Decoction).
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, 麻黄) (remove roots and joints), Gegen (Puerariae Radix, 葛根), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 白术) (each one liang). Coarsely grind and sieve the above herbs. Take five qianbi (a small measuring spoon) per dose. Add one dan and a half of water, decoct until seven parts remain. Strain off the dregs.
The patient is lethargic and prone to sleep. The four limbs are painful. Both the face and eyes turn yellow. The tongue is purple; in severe cases, the tongue surface cracks and may even turn black. These are all signs of Zoujing Huang (Jaundice due to depletion of essence).
Treatment for Zoujing Huang:
Niuzhi (Bovis Cauda Fat, 牛脂) one liang, Chi (Sojae Semen Preparatum, 豆豉) half he. First, refine the Niuzhi, wrap it in silk cloth to form a packet, and cauterize the tongue with it to remove a layer of black skin. Separately, decoct a strong Chi Tang (Fermented Soybean Decoction, 豉汤) one dan and drink it.
The patient has accumulated heat in the five zang organs. The face is red, speech is erratic or delirious, and consciousness is confused. The eyes appear yellow. This is Jiu Huang (Jaundice caused by excessive alcohol consumption). Moxa the Houxin (GV15, after Heart), Baihui (GV20, Hundred Convergences), and Xiawanlian (acupoint below Xiawan) three locations, three hundred moxa cones each.
Zexie San (Alisma Powder):
Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 泽泻) (cut into pieces), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 黄芩) (remove heart), Baixianpi (Dictamni Cortex, 白鲜皮), Yinchenhao (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba, 茵陈蒿), Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla, 阿胶) (Jiaozhou origin, stir-fried), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 甘草) (honey-fried, three fen). Grind the above herbs into a powder. Take... (text interrupted here)
The patient's face and eyes are blue-green. They prefer to lie and sleep in dark places and do not wish to see light. They clutch their clothes, appearing as if possessed by spirits. If yellow flowers are seen, this is Ji Huang (Chicken Jaundice, a specific type of jaundice).
Leng Yao Formula: Dihuang Yin (Rehmannia Drink).
Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix, 地黄) (half jin, select plump and tender ones, wash clean), Huang Ci Ji (Gallus Gallus Domesticus Brisson, 黄雌鸡) (one chicken, remove feathers and viscera, cut finely). Use one dou of water, boil down to five sheng. Strain off the dregs. Drink slowly throughout the day... (text interrupted here)
The patient's body feels cool and cold. Black vessels appear on the tongue, and green vessels protrude on both cheeks. The eyes are yellow. The condition changes frequently. The brain feels like being pricked by needles, and there is vertigo with a sensation of falling. This is Zhuang Huang (Severe/Strong Jaundice).
Luru Fang (Donkey Milk Formula):
Use one to two sheng of Luru (Asini Lac, 驴乳). Take it all at once in one dose. If there is black-yellow color on the tongue, dry nose preventing sleep, and a bluish complexion, it is incurable.
The patient first feels body heat and red skin, but becomes cool in the afternoon. Red spots appear all over the body. It is suitable to moxa the Yongquan (KI1, Sole Vortex), Beixin (back center), Laogong (PC8, Palace of Labor), and Xiawanlian (below Xiawan) acupoints, which will lead to recovery. If black spots appear...
Zicao Tang (Arnebiae Radix Decoction):
Zicao (Arnebiae Radix, 紫草) (remove seedlings), Wulan (Isatidis Radix, 吴蓝) (each one liang), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 木香), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 黄连) (remove whiskers, half liang). Coarsely grind and sieve the above herbs. Take five qianbi per dose. Add one dan and a half of water... (text interrupted here)
