Any disease treatment should utilize the principle of similarity. Regarding the treatment of bone foreign bodies (bone fishbones or other sharp objects stuck in the throat), should one use cormorants to treat fishbone impactions,狸 and tiger bones to treat animal bone impactions, magnetite to treat needle impactions, or hair ash to treat hair impactions? As for items such as bamboo splinters, scallion whites, chewing tendons, silk floss, and honey, these can be applied generally to various types of bone foreign bodies. The method of using herbs does not always rely on their flavor and aroma; sometimes they are used based on specific intent. For example, using fishnets and tiger bones to treat bone foreign bodies is such a case. However, a fishnet can control fish because it is what fish fear; a tiger can subdue beasts because it is what beasts fear. Since the objects they subdue differ, the methods of application also vary.
Formulas:
Shenxian Huatie Dan (Immortal Iron-Melting Pill, also known as Shenghua Xian Dan): Treats all types of bone foreign bodies.
Xiangbaizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, three liang of large pieces without cracks), Guanzhong (Cyathulae Rhizoma, one liang, picked clean and powdered), Mulanhua (Magnoliae Flos, one liang from trees), Jingmo (Beijing Inkstone Ink, one qian of good quality).
Yuzi (Dioscoreae Bulbiferae, one liang dried), Xiangya Xie (Elephantis Dentis Subtilitas), Daimao Xie (Erythropadi Testudinis et Chelydae Subtilitas), Xijiao Xie (Rhinocerotis Cornu Subtilitas) (each three liang), Meimei (Carbonaceous Matter, one liang clean). All above are ground into fine powder. Use snow water from the top of the head to make a paste, form pills the size of longan fruits. Coat with Zhusha (Cinnabar). Hang in a ventilated place to dry in the shade. During preparation, avoid being seen by women, mourners, cats, dogs, or outsiders. Take one pill each time, hold in the mouth and let dissolve slowly.
Lingsha San (Spirit Sand Powder, from *Shengji Zonglu*): Treats foreign body impaction, soothes the throat.
Lingsha (Prepared Cinnabar), Dansha (Cinnabar), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata, skin and umbilicus removed, raw use), Qiandan (Minii Oxidum), Xionghuang (Realgar, each one fen), Xiong (Ligustici Wallichii Rhizoma et Radix, half liang), Jinbo (Gold Leaf, seven pieces), Badou (Crotonis Fructus, shell and membrane removed, stir-fried until black, separately pounded). All above are ground into fine powder. Take one qian bi each time, mix with warm water and swallow.
Fuzi Wan (Aconite Pill, from *Shengji Zonglu*): Treats bone foreign bodies stuck in the throat.
Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata, one piece, cracked by heat, skin and umbilicus removed), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, remove seedlings and leaves), Gui (Cinnamomi Ramulus, remove coarse bark), Chenjupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, soaked in water, white pith removed, baked), Qingjupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, soaked in water, white pith removed). Equal parts. Grind into fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 30-50 pills each time, send down with rice drink.
Cishi Wan (Magnetite Pill, from *Shengji Zonglu*): Treats fishbones stuck in the throat that will not come out.
Cishi (Magnetitum, quenched in vinegar and ground fine), Chenjupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, soaked in water, white pith removed, baked), Baijian Hui (Alumen Calcined Ash), Eshi (Arctii Fructus, stir-fried), Jiangshui Jiao (Fermented Rice Water Sediment, from years old, sun-dried and stir-fried until purple). Equal parts. Grind into fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 30-50 pills each time, send down with rice drink.
Baijian Hui San (Alumen Ash Powder, from *Shengji Zonglu*): Treats bone foreign bodies stuck in the throat that will not come out.
Baijian Hui (Alumen Calcined Ash), Wzeiyu Gu (Sepiae Endoconcha, shell removed), Gui (Cinnamomi Ramulus, remove coarse bark), Chenjupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, soaked in water, white pith removed, baked), Jiangshui Jiao (Fermented Rice Water Sediment, from years old, sun-dried and stir-fried until purple). Equal parts. Grind into fine powder. Take one qian bi each time, mix with warm water and swallow. Let the patient get drunk so the bone descends with the alcohol qi.
Rangu San (Soft Bone Powder, from *Shengji Zonglu*): Treats various bone foreign bodies in the throat.
Chifuling (Poria Cum Radio, remove black skin), Chenjupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, soaked in water, white pith removed, baked, each half liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, roasted and cut), Suosharen (Amomi Fructus Rotundus, each one fen). Grind into fine powder. Take two qian bi each time, mix with warm water and swallow.
Xiangya Wan (Ivory Pill, from *Shengji Zonglu*): Treats bone foreign bodies stuck in the throat that will not come out.
Xiangya Xie (Elephantis Dentis Subtilitas), Wzeiyu Gu (Sepiae Endoconcha, shell removed), Shatang (Saccharum), Chenjupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, soaked in water, white pith removed, baked, each one fen). Grind into powder. Mix with cold food flour thick maltose syrup to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 30-50 pills each time, send down with warm water.
Jutang Wan (Orange Sugar Pill, from *Shengji Zonglu*): Treats bone foreign bodies stuck in the throat that will not come out.
Chenjupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, soaked in water, white pith removed, half liang), Wzeiyu Gu (Sepiae Endoconcha, shell removed), Shatang (Saccharum, each one fen). Grind into powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of soap pods. Take one pill each time, hold in mouth and let dissolve, swallowing saliva.
Lipi Wan (Chestnut Skin Pill, from *Shengji Zonglu*): Treats various bone foreign bodies stuck in the throat that will not come out.
Lizi Rou Shangpi (Carycae Nucis Juglandis Cortex, half liang) ground to powder, Ruxiang (Boswelliae Resina, pounded), Yugan (Hepatis Piscis, each one fen). Grind together, form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Send down 30-50 pills with warm wine, depending on the distance of the bone.
Yu Cuo San (Jade Grinding Powder, from *Shengji Zonglu*): Treats all types of bone foreign bodies. Or bamboo/wood splinters stuck in the throat that cannot go down.
Bimang (Ricini Semen, shell removed, one liang), Ningshuishi (Stibnites, pounded to powder, two liang). First grind Bimang into a paste, then immediately add the Shi powder, grind together into a powder. Take a small amount each time, blow into the throat, or mix with warm water and swallow.
Guixiang San (Cinnamon Fragrance Powder, from *Shengji Zonglu*): Treats goose, duck, and chicken bone foreign bodies stuck in the throat.
Gui (Cinnamomi Ramulus, remove coarse bark, half liang), Chenjupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, soaked in water, white pith removed, baked, one fen). Grind into powder. Take one qian bi each time, wrap in cotton, hold in mouth and swallow slowly ten times. The bone will dissolve itself.
Er Bai San (Two Whites Powder): Treats various bone foreign bodies.
Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Bailian (Trollii Rhizoma, each one fen). Grind into powder. Take one qian bi each time, mix with water and swallow.
Banxia San (Pinellia Powder): Treats iron thorns, bamboo, wood bone foreign bodies stuck in the throat that cannot go down. And splinters broken inside flesh that cannot come out.
Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber, washed seven times in hot water), Bailian (Trollii Rhizoma, each three liang). Grind into powder. Take half a qian bi each time, mix with wine and swallow, three times a day. Banxia irritates the throat, so use with caution.
Banxia Baizhi San (Pinellia and Angelica Powder): Treats various bone foreign bodies.
Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber, washed seven times in hot water), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, each half liang). Grind into powder. Take one qian bi each time, mix with water and swallow, inducing vomiting to expel the bone.
Formula for Treating Various Bone Foreign Bodies (from *Shenghui Fang*)
Soak deer sinew until soft, bind tightly, making it ball-sized. Tie with thread, swallow the end of the sinew into the throat, push to the site of the impaction, and slowly pull it out.
Another Formula
Use a bamboo splinter, scrape smooth and clean, wrap with thread, insert into the throat to the site of impaction, move back and forth to pull it out.
Treating bone foreign bodies in the throat where all methods fail. (from *Shenghui Fang*)
Take Yitang (Malt Sugar), form a pill the size of a chicken egg yolk, swallow. If not expelled, swallow more, gradually increasing the size, up to ten pills. Another formula: drink sugar water.
