The nose is the orifice of the Lung. When nasal function is harmonious, one can distinguish odors. If Wind-Cold pathogenic factors invade the Lung meridian, nasal Qi movement becomes obstructed, causing fluids to stagnate and block, and Qi and Blood to contend and knot. These attach within the nasal cavity, growing into things resembling warts, which hinder breathing; hence they are named "polyps" (nasal polyps).
Formulas:
Xionghuang San (Realgar Powder): Treats nasal polyps blocking the nostrils.
Ingredients: Xionghuang (Realgar, *Realgar*), Xixin (Asarum, *Asari Radix et Rhizoma*), Mutong (Akebia Stem, *Akebiae Caulis), Ruiren (Buckthorn Seed, *Rhamni Fructus*), Zaojia (Gleditsia Fruit, *Gleditsiae Fructus* - roasted, scraped of skin and seeds, 1 fen each), Baifan (Alumen, *Alumen*, more than half liang), Fanshi (Alum Stone, *Alumen* - wrapped in yellow clay and calcined, more than half liang), Lilu (Veratrum Root, *Veratri Radix*), Dichan (Euphorbia Kansui Root, *Kansui Radix*), Gudi (Melon Peduncle, *Trichosanthis Pedunculus*), Diyü (Sanguisorba Root, *Sanguisorbae Radix* - washed free of soil), Ruyu (Rubia Root, *Rubiae Radix et Rhizoma* - 3 fen each). These may also be used together. Use until cured.
Zhi Pixi Fang (Formula for Treating Polyps): (From *Zhizhi Fang*)
Ingredients: Gansui (Kansui Root, *Kansui Radix*), Mingfan (Refined Alum, *Alumen*), Zhusha (Cinnabar, *Cinnabaris*), Xionghuang (Realgar, *Realgar*), Cihuang (Orpiment, *Orpiment*), Lilu (Veratrum Root, *Veratri Radix*), Gudi (Melon Peduncle, *Trichosanthis Pedunculus*). Equal parts. Grind all into powder. Mix with clear honey and apply externally.
The two formulas mentioned above:
Yangfei San (Sheep Lung Powder): (From *Yifang Jicheng*) Treats nasal polyps, Lung Qi stagnation, nasal obstruction, and inability to smell.
Ingredients: Yangfei (Sheep Lung, *Ovis aries L. Lung* - one whole, thinly sliced, fascia removed, roasted dry), Mutong (Akebia Stem, *Akebiae Caulis* - 0.5 liang, sometimes Tongcao), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, *Zingiberis Rhizoma* - processed), Rongshen (Cistanche Stem, *Cistanches Herba* - soaked in wine overnight, sliced and roasted), Xiong (Ligusticum Rhizome, *Chuanxiong Rhizoma* - 0.5 liang each), Baizhu (Atractylodes Rhizome, *Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma* - soaked in rice wash water overnight, crushed, fried yellow, 4 liang). Grind all into a powder. Take 1 qian each time, mixed with rice drink after meals, twice daily. Another method: mix medicine with water, pour into the lungs, cook until soft, slice finely, roast dry, and grind into powder. Take 2 qian each time.

Grind all into fine powder. Blow into the nose using a bamboo tube; the polyps will naturally disappear. For inability to smell due to nasal obstruction, blowing this in is also effective. It can also be blown for hemicephalic wind (migraine).
Xiao Bizi Formula (For Dissolving Nasal Polyps): (From *Ben Shi Fang*) This formula is potent. For a safer, slower effect, use the previous formula.
Ingredients: Gudi (Melon Peduncle, *Trichosanthis Pedunculus* - stir-fried), Gansui (Kansui Root, *Kansui Radix* - 4 qian each), Kubai Fan (Dry White Alum, *Alumen* - stir-fried), Luoqing (Malachite, *Malachite* - stir-fried), Caowu Jian (Aconitum Carmiichaelii Lateral Root Tip, *Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata* - stir-fried, 0.5 qian each). Mix all together, add a small amount of Shexiang (Musk, *Moschus*), pound into pills. Wrap in cotton, insert into the nose to touch the polyp. Wait for clear water to discharge; the sides will become porous, and the polyp will fall off naturally.
Zhi Bizi Zhong Da, Qixi Butong, Fangmen Formula (For Nasal Polyps Growing Large, Blocking Breath, Causing Distress): (From *Shenghui Fang*)
Ingredients: Lilu (Veratrum Root, *Veratri Radix* - 3 fen, remove root head, grind to powder), Xionghuang (Realgar, *Realgar* - finely ground), Cihuang (Orpiment, *Orpiment* - finely ground, 1 fen each).
