The *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) states: When heat from the Gallbladder channel shifts to the brain, it causes Biyuan (Nasal Sinusitis/Olfactory Disorder). Biyuan is characterized by the continuous flow of turbid nasal discharge. The brain is the Sea of Marrow, stored within Yin organs. Therefore, the unceasing flow of nasal discharge is like water having a source. If treatment is delayed, it may transmit into complications such as epistaxis (nosebleed), blurred vision, or even blindness.
Formulas:
Chuanwu San (Aconite Powder): Treats Naoxie (Brain leakage/drainage).
Ingredients: Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Baifuzi (Typhonii Rhizoma), Beixixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Baifuling (Poria), Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix), Changpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Xiangbaizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Gancaojie (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma with nodes). All ingredients in equal parts are ground into powder. Take three qian per dose. Chew raw scallion white stems and take with decoction. Take after meals.
Chuanxiong Fangfeng San (Ligusticum and Saposhnikovia Powder): A secret formula for treating chronic Naoxie. For those who have suffered from this disease for many years, one course of treatment leads to recovery.
Ingredients: Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba) (each 1 liang); Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Gansong (Nardostachyos Radix et Rhizoma) (each 3 qian); Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (0.5 liang). Grind all into powder. Take after meals with wine. For those who cannot drink alcohol, take with clear tea or weak tea decoction.
Jisu Wan (Elsholtzia Pill): Treats Brain Heat and Lung Obstruction (stagnation of Lung Qi), excessive nasal discharge in Biyuan.
Ingredients: Jisu Ye (Elsholtziae Herba, dried), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed and baked), Xiong (Chuanxiong), Sanggenbaipi (Mori Cortex), Huangqi (Astragali Radix, roasted and cut), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, roasted and cut, each 1 liang), Shenggan Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix, sliced and baked, 2 liang). Grind into powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 20 pills per dose after meals and before sleep, washed down with Renshen Tang (Ginseng Decoction).
Jingjie San (Schizonepeta Powder, from *Yuyao Yuanfang*): Treats Lung Obstruction and Brain Heat, unceasing Biyuan.
Ingredients: Jingjiesui (Schizonepetae Spica), Huoxiang Ye (Agastaches Herba) (each 1 liang), Xiong (Chuanxiong) (2 liang), Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum, ground, 1 liang), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, ground to powder, 1.5 liang), Sucaogen (Cyperri Rhizoma, stir-fried). Grind into powder. Take after meals with wine.
Fangfeng Tang (Saposhnikovia Decoction, from *Weisheng Baojian*): Treats Biyuan in adults and children. Brain heat seeps downward, causing unceasing turbid nasal discharge; long-term cases may lead to epistaxis.
Ingredients: Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (1.5 liang), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (each 1 liang). Grind into powder. Take half a qian per dose, mixed with boiling water. Take three times daily after meals. Another version uses Tiandong (Asparagi Radix) instead of Maimendong.
Qianhu Tang (Peucedani Decoction): Treats Brain Heat, nasal congestion, and excessive nasal discharge.
Ingredients: Qianhu (Peucedani Radix, rhizome removed), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, cut), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (each 2 liang), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, blackened parts removed), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, roasted and cut) (each 1.5 liang), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, cut). Ingredients: Xinyiren (Magnoliae Flos, kernel), Cang'erzi (Xanthii Fructus, stir-fried, 2.5 qian), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (1 liang), Bohe Ye (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) (0.5 qian). Sun-dry all, grind into fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose after meals, mixed with scallion and clear tea.

Grind into fine powder, bind with wheat paste to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 10 pills after meals with clear tea.
Nanxing Yin (Arisaema Drink, from *Zhizhifang*): Treats Wind pathogen entering the brain, lingering cold not dissipating, hard masses forming inside the nose, blocking brain Qi circulation, leading to marrow-like nasal discharge.
Use high-quality large Bai Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma praeparatum). Slice, blanch twice in boiling water, dry by baking. Take 2 qian per dose with seven jujubes and a little Gancao (Licorice), decoct together. Take after meals. After 3-4 doses, the hard mass will naturally expel, brain Qi will circulate, and marrow discharge will stop. Subsequently, make a cake from garlic and Bibo (Long Pepper Fruit) powder, place on gauze, heat, and apply to the anterior fontanelle. Use an iron to heat through. Alternatively, insert powder of Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) and Bibo into the nose.
