Facial zhinai (a chronic skin condition characterized by redness and telangiectasia of the nose and cheeks) arises from heat rising to the face due to alcohol consumption, which then combats with wind-cold qi. This interaction leads to the formation of red patches on the nose and face, appearing bright red and densely distributed.

Sulfur Ointment: Specifically treats red nose.
Ingredients: Raw Sulfur (Sheng Huanghuang), Fragrant Angelica Dahurica Root (Xiang Baizhi), Trichosanthes Root (Gualougen), Calomel (Nifen; above each half zhu/qian); Blister Beetle (Yanjing; seven pieces, remove feet and wings; if unavailable, substitute with Hyoscyamus Seed/Tianxianzi); Full Scorpion (Quanxie; one piece); Cicada Slough (Chantui; five pieces, wash clean to remove soil). Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Use sesame oil and an appropriate amount of yellow beeswax, boiling them according to the method for making facial cream. Adjust the proportion based on the required amount until the ointment is smooth.

After taking Chixiao Wan, take the following medicine:
Polygonum Multiflorum Root (Heshouwu; 1.5 liang), Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng), Black Soybean (Heidou; peeled), Ligusticum Rhizome (Gaoben), Schizonepeta Spike (Jingjiesui), Cortex Lycii (Digupi; washed, each 1 liang), Mulberry Root Bark (Sangbaipi), Aristolochia Vine (Tianxianteng), Sophora Root (Kushen), Red Earth (Chitu; above each 0.5 liang). Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Form pills using refined honey, sized like paulownia seeds. Take 30-40 pills per dose, administered after meals with clear tea.

Magnolia Bark Ointment (from *Taiping Shenghui Fang*): Treats nasal lesions caused by alcohol toxicity.
Ingredients: Magnolia Bark (Mulanpi), Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng; remove rhizome), Angelica Dahurica Root (Baizhi), Costus Root (Muxiang), Achyranthes Root (Niuxi; remove sprouts), Red Peony Root (Chishaoyao), Angelica Pubescens Root (Duhuo), Asarum Root (Duheng), Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui), Aconitum Carmichaelii Lateral Root (Baifuzi), Asarum (Xixin), Ligusticum Wallichii Rhizome (Xiongqiong; above each 1 liang); Musk (Shexiang; 0.5 liang, finely ground). Finely chop the medicinal materials. Boil in 2 jin of pig lard from the twelfth lunar month over low heat. Stop when the Angelica Dahurica turns yellow. Filter out the dregs, add musk, and stir evenly. Store in a porcelain jar. Apply thinly to the affected area every night.

Polygonum Multiflorum Pill (from *Wei Shi Fang*): Treats facial redness and nasal redness caused by Lung Wind.
Ingredients: Polygonum Multiflorum Root (Heshouwu; 1.5 liang), Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng), Black Soybean (Heidou; peeled), Schizonepeta Spike (Jingjiesui), Cortex Lycii (Digupi; washed, each 1 liang), Mulberry Root Bark (Sangbaipi), Aristolochia Vine (Tianxianteng), Sophora Root (Kushen), Red Earth (Chitu; each 0.5 liang). Treatment for Red Nose (from Desheng Tang):
Ingredients: Imported Sulfur (Boshang Huanghuang), Hyoscyamus Seed (Tianxianzi), Small Pepper (Xiao Jiao), Realgar (Xionghuang), Calcined Alum (Kufan), Borneol (Er Naizi; each 1 liang); Musk (Shexiang), Calomel (Qingfen; a small amount). Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Mix with sesame oil and apply to the lesion.

Gardenia Pill (from *Taiping Shenghui Fang*): Treats Zhinai (rhinophyma/acne rosacea). Also treats nasal swelling caused by excessive alcohol consumption.
Ingredients: Gardenia Fruit (Zhizi Ren), Fermented Soybean (Chi; each 3 sheng), Rhubarb (Dahuang; 6 liang), Magnolia Bark (Mulanpi; 0.5 liang), Ligusticum Wallichii Rhizome (Xiongqiong), Licorice Root (Gancao; each 4 liang). Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Mix with honey to form pills sized like paulownia seeds. Take 10 pills per dose, three times daily. The dosage can be gradually increased to 15 pills.

Winter Melon Seed Powder (from *Taiping Shenghui Fang*): Treats Zhinai on the nose and face resembling hemp or bean grains, accompanied by pain and yellow discharge upon scratching. Suitable for this prescription.
Ingredients: Gardenia Fruit (Zhizi Ren; 2 liang), Biota Seed (Baizi Ren), Poria (Baifuling), Malva Seed (Kuizi; lightly fried, each 1 liang), Winter Melon Seed (Dongguazi Ren; lightly fried, 2 liang), Immature Bitter Orange (Zhishi; 1 liang, bran-fried until slightly yellow). Grind the above ingredients into a powder. After meals, take 2 qian mixed with rice broth.

Shitingzhi Powder: Treats Lung Meridian injury caused by alcohol. Manifests as red nose and red sores on the face.
Ingredients: Shitingzhi (1 qian), Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui), Calomel (Qingfen; each 0.5 qian), Borneol (Naozi; a small amount), Areca Nut (Binglang; 3 qian). Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Place in a silk bag and inhale through the nose. At night, moisten the sore with saliva, apply the powder to the nasal sore, and rub gently. Wash off the medicine with water at dawn. Additionally, collect Cocklebur Herb (Cangercao) at noon on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, dry it in the shade, soak it in wine, and process it through nine steaming and nine sun-drying cycles. Grind into a fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of a marble. Take one pill per dose, dissolved in warm wine after meals, three times daily. Cure within half a month.

White Dragon Powder (from *Wei Shi Fang*): Treats Zhinai and facial Lung Wind sores.
Ingredients: Ligusticum Wallichii Rhizome (Chuanxiong), Ligusticum Rhizome (Gaoben), Asarum (Xixin), Licorice Root (Gancao), Angelica Dahurica Root (Baizhi). Equal parts. Apply like bath soap, leave on for a short time, then wash off with hot water. After meals, take one dose of Longhu Dan. It should be taken as a single dose. Resolution occurs within half a month. The Bureau Formula records: "The person was originally feared for their red face, but now appears bright and white."

Lung Wind Pill (from *Chuangke Jingyao*): Treats facial and nasal wind rashes and itching.
Ingredients: Sophora Root (Kushen; 2 liang), Asarum (Xixin), Inula Flower (Xuanjinhua), Notopterygium Rhizome (Qianghuo; each 1 liang), Late Silkworm Moth (Wancan'e; 2 liang, remove wings and feet). Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Mix with soft rice to form pills sized like paulownia seeds. Take 50 pills per dose, with tea or wine as needed, at any time.

Gleditsia Sinensis Pill (from *Taiping Shenghui Fang*): Treats nasal swelling caused by excessive alcohol consumption.
Ingredients: Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit (Zaojiao; 1 jin, non-worm-eaten, remove skin, coat with 5 liang of clarified butter, roast slowly over low heat until butter is absorbed, crush, soak in fresh water, filter through raw silk, boil slowly into a paste); Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng; remove rhizome), Angelica Pubescens Root (Duhuo), Licorice Root (Gancao; roasted until slightly red, chopped), Arctium Fruit (Niubangzi; lightly fried, each 1 liang). Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Mix with the Gleditsia Sinensis paste to form pills sized like paulownia seeds. Take 20 pills after meals, with tea or wine as needed.

Lung Wind Red Nose:
Ingredients: Grass Aconite Tip (Caowu Jian; seven pieces), Pig Tooth Gleditsia (Zhuya Zaojiao; 1 qian), Alum (Mingfan; 5 fen), Musk (Shexiang; one spoonful), Large Maple Oil (Dafengyou). Grind and mix evenly. Melt in a porcelain vessel over fire, blend with the medicine. First wipe with ginger, then apply with fingers. Three times a day. Highly effective.

Costus Ointment (from *Taiping Shenghui Fang*): Treats chronic Zhinai and facial wind sores.
Ingredients: Sulfur (finely ground), Snail Shell (Nuanyanke; dried dead small shells are best, clean soil), Costus Root (Muxiang), Apricot Kernel (Xingren; remove skin and tip, grind into paste), Vermilion Powder (Zhu Fen; each 0.5 qian). Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Add apricot kernel, vermilion powder, and sulfur, grinding until uniform. Mix with facial fat from the twelfth lunar month to form a thin paste. Apply every night before sleep after washing with light brine water.

Treatment for Zhinai:
Ingredients: Raw Sulfur (Sheng Huanghuang; 3 qian), Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian), White Alum (Baifan), Frankincense (Ruxiang; each 1.5 qian), Calomel (Qingfen; 0.5 qian). Grind into a fine powder. Dip in saliva and apply. Apply twice a day until redness subsides. Divine effect.

Aconitum Carmichaelii Lateral Root Powder (from *Taiping Shenghui Fang*): Treats Lung organ wind-toxin and intermittent itching from Zhinai.
Ingredients: Aconitum Carmichaelii Lateral Root (Baifuzi), Asarum (Xixin; each 1 liang), Costus Root (Muxiang), White Fermented Soybean (Baichi; each 0.5 liang), Musk (Shexiang; 1 fen, finely ground). Grind the above ingredients into a powder. Add musk and grind evenly. Mix with water for application.

Treatment for Nasal Swelling:
Ingredients: Tribulus Fruit (Jilizi), Gardenia Fruit (Zhizi Ren), Fermented Soybean (Chi; each 1 sheng), Magnolia Bark (Mulanpi; 0.5 jin, omitted in another version). Grind into a powder. Mix with vinegar juice to form mud. Apply at night.

Powdered Yellow Ointment: Treats Lung Heat. Nasal red nodules. Commonly known as Zhinai.
Ingredients: Sulfur (1 fen, ground), Calomel (Qingfen), Aconite Tip (Wutou Jian; each a small amount, ground), Radish (Luobo; cut off lid, hollow out like a pot, put sulfur inside, cover with bamboo needle, bake in fire overnight, take out and grind to fine powder, use a small amount). Grind uniformly. Mix with flour oil. Apply before bed. Wash off morning and evening. Mixing with butter is especially good.

Another Prescription:
Ingredients: Frankincense (Ruxiang), Sulfur (Huanghuang), Asarum (Xixin), Calomel (Qingfen; equal parts). Grind into a fine powder. Mix with water for application.

Treatment for Zhinai. Also for nasal polyps and freckles on the face. Can also remove moles.
Ingredients: Lead Tetroxide (Huandan; 5 wen), Sand (Sha; 30 wen, ground very fine), Cake Medicine (Bingyao; 50 wen, stored in jar), Croton Seed (Badou; 10 pieces, remove shell and membrane, wrap in paper, press to remove oil). Sweep the red area with a chicken feather once a day. The medicine expels toxic substances. Stop when the disease recedes. Subsequently take Xiaofeng San, Huapi San, etc., 5-7 doses. For freckles, use a small bamboo stick to dot the medicine on the affected area. Wash off immediately upon slight swelling. Do not leave it on, fearing excessive potency.

Transmitted by Governor Zhao Junyou: When Zhao Zaike served as Prefect of Huzhou, he had a close relationship with a poet monk who suffered from Zhinai. Several red growths appeared on the tip of his nose, large ones like oranges, small ones like plums, hanging down past the mouth, interfering with eating and speaking. He was deeply disgusted. A minor soldier in the prefecture, skilled in grooming, was known for removing beauty marks but unknown for treating Zhinai. One day, he offered to treat the monk. He applied the medicine. For over half a month, pus-like blood was discharged from the skin daily. The growths eventually scabbed and fell off, leaving the nose and face bright and clear. He thanked him with ten thousand cash and told the Prefect.

Treatment for Red Nose and various facial wind sores:
Ingredients: Large Maple Oil (Dafengyou; 50 wen), Grass Aconite Root (Caowutou; one piece), Calomel (Qingfen), Musk (Shexiang; each 100 wen). Grind the Grass Aconite Root into powder. Boil in oil until uniform. Remove, let cool slightly, then add Calomel and Musk. Grind finely first, mix well. Apply frequently in small amounts, rubbing the affected area with hands until warm. Cure within ten days.

Another Prescription: Treatment for Lung Wind Zhinai.
Ingredients: Alum (Mingfan), Bright Sulfur (Ming Huanghuang; use red variety), Good Borneol (Haopian; a small amount, grind together with the two medicines). Equal parts. Grind into a fine powder. Dip finger in medicine and apply to the affected area.

Treatment for Zhinai. And black comedones on the nose in women.
Ingredients: Raw Sulfur (Sheng Huanghuang; 0.5 liang), Apricot Kernel (Xingren; 2.5 qian), Calomel (Qingfen; 1 qian). Grind into a fine powder. Mix with cake medicine. Apply at night. Wash off in the morning. Repeat several times to eradicate the root.

Another Prescription: Treatment for Lung Wind Zhinai.
Ingredients: Raw Sulfur (Sheng Huanghuang), Frankincense (Ruxiang), White Alum (Baifan; raw, equal parts). Grind into powder. Lightly scratch the affected area with a finger, then apply medicine. Cure within a month.

Treatment for Red Nose
Ingredients: Shitingzhi, Cicada Slough (Chantui), White Alum (Baifan). Equal parts, ground into powder. Add Pine Rosin (Songxiang) and grind into fine powder. Store in green onion leaves. Boil in Huangpi decoction for a few boils, take out. Grind fine when cold. Mix with Calomel (Qingfen). Dilute with sesame oil for application.

Areca Nut Powder: Treats red nose tip.
Ingredients: Chicken-heart Areca Nut (Jixin Binglang), Imported Sulfur (Boshang Huanghuang; equal parts), Borneol (Piannao; a small amount). Grind into fine powder. Wrap in starched silk cloth. Rub on the nose occasionally.

Ingredients: Loquat Leaf (Pipaye; 1 liang, remove hairs, dry in shade, fresh is better), Gardenia (Zhizi; 0.5 liang). Grind into powder. Take 2-3 qian, mixed with warm wine. Take in the morning. First treat the left side. Before bed, treat the right side. Effectively divine.

Treatment for Zhinai (also called Lingxiaohua San). Frequently effective when taken orally. However, the medicine is slightly cold. Assess deficiency and excess.
Ingredients: Trumpet Creeper Flower (Lingxiaohua), Mountain Gardenia (Shanzhizi). Equal parts, ground into fine powder. Take 2-3 qian, mixed with tea after meals. Three times daily. Another version also treats red nose. (Zeng Jingren from Linchuan suffered from this disease. One day, he obtained this formula from a strange person in the capital. Not even three doses, and the root was removed. Uncle Zhao personally took it and saw results.)

Poem on Treating Red Nose and Wind Rash: Lung Wind causing red nose is hardest to cure. I have a good formula to give you. Just grind Sulfur into fine powder. Mixing with Eggplant Juice for application is truly miraculous. (*Danliao Fang* does not use eggplant juice; mix with cold water, apply to nose at night to avoid interference during the day.)

Another Prescription
Mix 5 doses of Xiaofeng San and 5 doses of Heshouwu San together. Take Kushen Wan with clear tea or wine, at any time. Avoid morning wine for one month.

Five Wind Powder (from Haishang Fang): Treats Zhinai.
Mix 5 doses of Xiao Wuchen Tang and 5 doses of Xiao Xiaofeng San evenly. Take with hot water.

Gardenia Kernel Pill (from *Danliao Fang*): Treats Lung Heat. Nasal red nodules. Commonly known as Zhinai.
Grind Gardenia Kernel (Zhizi Ren) into fine powder (amount unspecified). Form pills with yellow beeswax, sized like paulownia seeds. Take 20 pills per dose, with tea or wine after meals.

Another Prescription (from *Baiyi Xuanfang*): Treats Zhinai.
Boil Southern Indian Myrobalan (Nanfan Meizishi) with holes. Grind with water into paste. Apply with finger. Very effective.

Treatment for Nasal/Facial Zhinai and Acne (from *Ren Cun Fang*)
Use 1 he of Chinese Hollyhock Flower (Shuhuihua). Grind fine. Mix with twelfth lunar month pig lard. Apply every night.

Treatment for Zhinai (from *Zhizhi Fang*)
Regularly applying white salt is excellent.

Nasal Polyp with Pus and Blood Discharge (from *Wei Shi Fang*)
Use one Honeycomb (Lufengfang). Roast until charred, grind into powder. Take one cubic inch spoonful with warm wine. Three times daily.

Another Prescription (from Haishang Fang): Treats Zhinai. Red rash spreading to the upper face.
Use Borneol (Naozi) in any amount. Mix with real butter for application. No specific dosage. Cures quickly.

Specifically treats Nasal Polyps with Pus and Blood.
Use Oak Ash (Heye Hui). First wash with clear rice water. Extract juice from Elm leaves, wash, squeeze dry. Put ash into the sore. Good.

Specifically treats Nasal Polyps with Pus and Blood Discharge (from *Zhouhou Fang*)
Burn the head of a January rat to ash. Apply with twelfth lunar month pig lard to the sore.

Treatment for Facial Sores, commonly called Zhinai.
Remove skin from Quince (Shijunzi). Any amount. Soak 3-5 pieces in one cup of sesame oil. Chew finely before bed. Swallow with sesame oil.

Divine Effect for Zhinai.
Use Buffalo Horn Calculus (Niuhuang) powder. Mix with water for application.

Specifically treats Red Nose.
Use one liver. Take one dose of Renshen Runfei San. Add Mulberry Root Bark (Sangbaipi). Cook the liver with the medicine. Eat both the liver and medicine on an empty stomach.

Treatment for Zhinai.
Grind Thistle Flower (Ciji Hua) into powder. Mix with Ginger Juice (Shengjiang Zhi) for application. Add a small amount of Musk (Shexiang) and Calomel (Qingfen). For initial small boils. Mix with breast milk for application. Great effect.

Schizonepeta Powder (from Yang Family Collection): Treats Lung Wind Urticaria.
Schizonepeta Spike (Jingjiesui; 4 liang), Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng; remove rhizome), White Tribulus (Bai Jili; stir-fry to remove spines), White Silkworm Moth (Bai Jiangcan; stir-fry to remove silk mouth), Apricot Kernel (Xingren; remove skin and tip), Licorice Root (Gancao).

Red Dragon Powder (from Yang Family Collection): Cools blood and eliminates wind. Treats nasal urticaria.
Red Earth (Chitu; 2.5 liang), Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng), Red Peony Root (Chishaoyao), Cortex Lycii (Digupi), Polygonum Multiflorum Root (Heshouwu), Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui), Gardenia Kernel (Shanzhizi Ren; above six ingredients each 2 liang), Licorice Root (Gancao).

Yue Tao Powder (from Yang Family Collection): Treats facial urticaria caused by wind pathogen invading when sweating.
Ligusticum Wallichii Rhizome (Chuanxiong), Notopterygium Rhizome (Qianghuo; remove rhizome), Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng; remove rhizome), Chrysanthemum Flower (Gan Juhua), White Tribulus (Bai Jili; stir-fry to remove spines), Licorice Root (Gancao; roasted, six ingredients each 1 liang), Gardenia (Shanzhi).

Castor Oil Paste (from Yang Family Collection): Specifically treats Lung Wind facial redness and sores. And Zhinai.
Li Qing (separately ground), Yellow Beeswax (Huangla), Calomel (Qingfen), Sulfur (Huanghuang; separately ground), Castor Seed (Bimazi; remove skin, grind; above five ingredients each 2 qian), Sesame Oil (Mayou; 1 liang). Grind the above ingredients evenly.

Trumpet Creeper Powder (from Yang Family Collection): Treats Lung Wind-Heat. Nasal urticaria.
Trumpet Creeper Flower (Lingxiaohua; 0.5 liang), Sulfur (Huanghuang; 1 liang, separately ground), Calomel (Nifen; 1 qian), Walnut (Hetao; four pieces, remove shell). First mix the first three ingredients evenly. Then add walnuts and grind fine.

Treatment for Nasal/Facial Zhinai (from *Bencao*)
Use one he of Cormorant Feces (Luchi Fen). Grind and mix with twelfth lunar month pig lard. Apply every night.

Treatment for Alcohol Wind Red Nose (from *Bencao*)
Use Tangerine Seeds (Juzihe). Lightly stir-fry into powder. Take one qian spoonful. Grind one walnut meat. Mix with warm wine and take. Stop when effective.

Divine Effect for Zhinai.
Loquat Leaves (Pipaye; any amount). Wipe off hairs with cloth. Dry by roasting, grind into powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Prepare like tea. Two to three times daily.
