Corydalis bungeanae Folium (Yinye), Aconitum carmichaelii Radix Praeparata (Chuanwu, prepared, peeled), Photiniaiae Folium (Shinan), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, removed woody center), Zanthoxyli Pericarpium (Chuanjiao, seeds removed, lightly stir-fried until oil appears), Polygala tatarinowii Radix (Nüwei), Aconitum carmichaelii Radix Praeparata (Fuzi, prepared, peeled and navel removed), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin, leaves removed), Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (Duhuo, selected yellow ones resembling ghost eyes, radix removed, washed, dried, weighed), Serpylli Herba (Juanbai, roots removed), Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui, peeled), Aconitum kusnezoffii Radix Praeparata (Tianxiong, prepared, peeled and navel removed), Gentianae Macrophytae Radix (Qinjiao, soil removed), Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix (Fangji, each of the above one liang), Rhododendri Molles Flos (Zhizhuhua, two liang), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, radix removed, washed, soaked in wine, sliced, dried, two liang), Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Shengshengdi, two liang), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Shaoyao, one liang).
The above eighteen medicinal materials are coarsely crushed, soaked in two dou of wine. Soak for seven days in winter, three days in summer, and five days in spring and autumn. Initially take one ge, gradually increase the dose, stopping when effective, ensuring the effect of the wine is continuous.
It treats ke-wu (sudden illness due to external pathogenic factors) and huoluan (cholera-like syndrome with vomiting and diarrhea), abdominal pain and distension, shizhu (chronic wasting disease with aversion to wind), mania and delirious speech, gu poison (poison from insects or parasites), yao mei (demonic influences), zheng jia (masses and accumulations), long-standing wen nue (warm malaria), conditions unresponsive to various treatments, and all kinds of malignant toxins. It is Taiyi Shenjing Dan (Great One Divine Spirit Pill).
Cinnabaris (Dansha, large blocks with wall-like textures from Yuanzhou or Mayang), Realgar (Xionghuang, leaf-shaped from Liuzhou), Orpiment (Xionghuang, transparent like a rooster's comb from water caves in Wudu, soaked in water first).
The above six medicinal materials are each pounded and sieved into powder. Mix with vinegar to achieve appropriate moisture content, place in an earthen furnace, seal with Liuyi Mud (Six-One Mud) tightly to prevent gas leakage, and let dry. Use an iron tripod (or three mud pillars work well too) sized according to the furnace, no higher than 1 chi 5 cun. Place about three jin of charcoal underneath, gradually adding to maintain five jin, keeping it only at the bottom, not exceeding the rim. The firing process lasts five days without interruption. After the fire extinguishes, soak in extremely cold water until the mud is thoroughly penetrated, then remove. The sublimated medicine condenses on the furnace; white as snow is best, five colors are good, three colors are secondary, and single color is inferior. If sublimation is incomplete, repeat the firing process. Sweep up the sublimated powder using feathers from a male rooster's wing, grind evenly, make into pills the size of millet grains. Take one pill on an empty stomach in the morning with grain wash; increase to two pills for severe cases. For trismus (lockjaw), pry open with a tool; if impossible, remove two teeth before administering. Males wear nine dao gui amount in a red pouch on the left, females on the right. Children tie it on their head to ward off miasma, toxic seasonal qi, and she gong (water parasite). For children's illness, mix with ku jiu (bitter wine) and apply on a square-inch paper to the child's heart and abdomen. Earthen furnace: pound fine loess, sieve through silk, mix with water and paper fibers to make mud. Size the furnace according to the medicine quantity. Dry in shade for thirty days, sun-dry for thirty days, turning over morning and evening. Bury in chaff, surround with earth barriers so chaff covers seven cun above and below the furnace. Burn from below for five days and nights. Remove ash, cool, clean, mix yellow lead oxide (Huangdan) with vinegar to a thin porridge consistency, coat the inside thickly by one fen. This furnace is used for making major medicinal pills and can be reused dozens of times. Alternatively, use two clay pots of appropriate size, coated with Liuyi Mud. Liuyi Mud recipe: Chishizhi (Red Halloysite), Mumian (Oyster Shell), Huashi (Talcum), Fanshi (Alum), Huangfan (Yellow Alum), each two liang. Add sufficient vinegar. First make loess mud, wrap each of the five medicines separately into balls to prevent gas leakage. Fire for three days, remove from fire, break balls, pound and sieve separately. Then mix with erdworm feces and halophytic soil (lutu), two liang each, blend with vinegar to a thick porridge consistency, and apply to the clay pot. If lutu is unavailable, salt can substitute.
