Women suffering from cold damage (Shanghan) with blood stasis knotting in the chest and diaphragm experience severe pain upon palpation, such that they cannot tolerate anyone approaching or touching them.
Haige (Sanguinae Concha), Shishi (Talcum), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried, each 1 liang), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas, 0.5 liang).
Grind the above into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with egg white for administration.
When the Small Intestine is unobstructed and patent, the blood stasis in the chest and diaphragm dissipates; when blood gathers at Danzhong (Pericardium region), it causes obstruction in the Small Intestine. If the Small Intestine is obstructed and blood does not circulate freely in the Danzhong area, this formula is indicated. If hematuria occurs frequently, Guizhi Honghua Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Safflower Decoction) is more appropriate; resolving the exterior through sweating will lead to recovery. The *Liuren Shu* states that this formula is suspected not to be by Zhang Zhongjing, but its reasoning is quite sound, so it is retained here. Guizhi Honghua Tang consists of adding a pinch of Honghua (Carthami Flos) to Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction).
Treating Taiyang disease where sweating has failed to resolve the condition, resulting in dizziness and muscle twitching.
Fuling (Poria), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, each 3 fen), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, one piece, processed, skin and umbilicus removed, use one-quarter), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 0.5 liang).
Coarsely grind the above. Take 5 qian, add five slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and 1.5 zhen of water. Decoct until 0.8 zhen remains, strain, and take warm. If urination is clear and frequent, remove Fuling. If diarrhea occurs, remove Baizhu.
In my hometown, there was a man surnamed Jing who made a living selling ropes. His son, aged thirty, initially presented with slight sweating, a weak pulse, and aversion to wind. The physician administered herbs containing Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang), causing profuse sweating that did not stop. He developed fever, frequent palpitations, insomnia, delirious speech with inability to recognize people, muscle twitching, and tremulous shaking. The physician then administered medicines for treating convulsions. I treated him to... dissipate residual heat, generate body fluids, and relieve thirst and irritability.
Digupi (Lycii Cortex), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, soaked in water and heart removed), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), Wumei (Mume Fructus), Puhuang (Typhae Pollen, stir-fried).
Grind the above into powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of quail eggs. Contain one pill in the mouth as needed, or dissolve in warm water and drink.
Treating weakness and emaciation with shortness of breath, nausea, and vomiting after a major illness.
Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 4 liang, crushed), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 7.5 qian, washed seven times with boiling water), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 liang, radix removed), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 2 liang, soaked in water and heart removed), Danye (Bambusae Folium, half a handful), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 liang, honey-fried). Add Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 1.5 liang) if vomiting is present.
Cut the above into pieces the size of hemp seeds. Take 5 qian per dose, with 1.5 zhen of water and over 100 grains of Jingsmi (Oryza Sativa Germ). Decoct until 0.8 zhen remains, until the rice is cooked and the decoction is ready. Strain and take warm.
