Book: Jingyue Quanshu (Complete Works of Zhang Jingyue)
Author: Zhang Jiebin (Zhang Jingyue)
Dynasty: Ming
Chapter: Surgery (Vol. 7/9)
Category: Comprehensive
Take a handful of Daphne Genkwa Flower (Yuanhua), wash it clean, pound it into a paste in a wooden mortar, add a small amount of water, and squeeze out the juice. Slowly boil the juice in a stone vessel until it forms a paste. Soak silk threads in the paste and dry them. Tie the hemorrhoid with the thread; there will be slight pain. Wait for the hemorrhoid to dry and fall off. Then, dip a paper twist in the paste and insert it deep into the anus to remove the root, ensuring permanent cure. Another method involves only soaking the thread in the squeezed juice overnight for use, keeping it free from water contact.
Kuzhi Shuicheng Gao (Prescription No. 230): Treats hemorrhoids while protecting healthy tissue.
Curcuma Aromatica Root (Yujin) and Bletilla Striata Tuber (Baiji) (1 liang each). An alternative formula adds Coptis Chinensis Rhizome (Huanglian).
Grind the above two herbs into fine powder. For internal hemorrhoids, when defecating causes the hemorrhoid to prolapse, wash it clean with warm water. Lie on your side on the bed so the hemorrhoid protrudes. Mix the medicine with honey water to an appropriate consistency. Apply the mixture around the healthy skin of the anal verge using a bamboo splint, leaving the hemorrhoid exposed. Cover with paper and leave for a while. Then apply the following cauterizing medicine to the hemorrhoid. Moisten the paper with a brush dipped in warm water to prevent the medicine from drying or spreading.
High-quality Alum (Baifan) (4 liang), Raw Arsenolite (Xingshi) (2.5 qian), Cinnabar (Zhusha) (1 qian, ground extremely fine).
Grind each ingredient separately into fine powder. First, place arsenic trioxide (Pifu) at the bottom of a purple clay pot. Cover it with the alum powder. Heat with fire until the smoke dissipates completely. This process volatilizes the arsenic, leaving only its "qi" (essence/vapor) to act upon the alum. Grind the treated alum into an extremely fine powder. Based on the size of the hemorrhoid head, place the alum powder in your palm, then add a small amount of Cinnabar. Dilute with saliva. Use a bamboo splint to coat the entire perimeter of the hemorrhoid. Apply three times a day. The treatment is effective when the hemorrhoid turns dark black. Yellow fluid may discharge at night; do not doubt this. It is ideal when the fluid stops discharging. Apply medicine again at midnight. Continue applying three times the next night. Slight pain is acceptable. When changing dressings, hold a bowl of warm water and gently wash off the old medicine with a brush, apply new medicine, and continue using the tissue-protecting agent. Occasionally wash with Schizonepeta Decoction (Jingjie Tang). After two to three days, when yellow discharge nearly ceases, remove Cinnabar and reduce the amount of Alum in the prescription to缓和 (moderate) the medicinal strength. Adjustments can be made gradually over a few days to avoid alarming the patient. Success depends on observing color changes to adjust dosage and the thickness of application. This formula relies on the toxic properties of Arsenic and Arsenolite, mitigated by Cinnabar. A practitioner used these two formulas in the capital, achieving significant results and gaining wealth. A wealthy merchant purchased this formula for one hundred taels of silver and recorded it for me. Although I have not used it myself, all who transmitted it reported efficacy. However, the cauterizing herb was already published by Alchemist Zhao Yizhen in *Qingnang Zazuan*, proving as effective as a deity.
The *Qianjin Fang* version has not been widely circulated. Generally, modern claims of curing hemorrhoids rely on these formulas. For patients with Qi and Blood deficiency or internal pathogens, internal treatment should be combined to ensure no oversight.
Rushen Qianjin Fang: Effective for all types of hemorrhoids.
High-quality Arsenolite (Xingshi) (3 qian, yellow and transparent, crushed to bean size), Clear Alum (Baifan) (1 liang, powdered), High-quality Lead Monoxide (Huandan) (5 qian, refined), Scorpion Tail (Xieshao) (7 tails, washed, dried on tile, powdered), Aconitum Kusnezoffii Root (Caowu) (5 qian, solid texture, peeled, raw, powdered).
Use a purple clay pot heated red by charcoal, cooled, and wiped clean. First, heat the Clear Alum until boiling. Add the Arsenolite into the Alum and mix well. Alternate between mild and strong heat. Stir again when boiling resumes. Stop heating when the pot glows red and smoke rises. Remove the pot and let it cool. Grind into powder. Add Lead Monoxide, Aconitum Kusnezoffii Root, and Scorpion Tail. Grind together extremely finely. Store in a porcelain jar. To apply, first cleanse the area with Licorice Decoction or Scallion and Pepper Decoction. Mix the powder with raw sesame oil. Apply to the hemorrhoid with a goose feather brush three times daily. Thick, glue-like yellow fluid must discharge for the hemorrhoid to shrink. Long-standing cases resolve within ten days; recent cases dissolve into yellow fluid. Once the root is removed, apply tissue-regenerating medicine. This treats all five types of hemorrhoids. This is the formula of Cao Wu from Lin'an, which cured Emperor Gaozong of hemorrhoids, leading to his appointment as an inspector.
*Mishuan* Zhenggu Dan (Prescription No. 232): Treats traumatic injuries, fractures, and blood stasis. Severe cases benefit from this formula to reconnect bones and tendons.
Dalbergia Odorifera Lignum (Xiangluzhijiangxiang), Frankincense Resin (Ruxiang), Myrrh Resin (Moyao), Sappanwood (Sumu), Pine Knot (Songjie), Pyrite (Zirantong, quenched in vinegar seven times), Processed Aconitum Carmichaelii Root (Chuanwu), True Dragon's Blood (Xuejie) (1 liang each).
Earthworm (Dilong, cleaned, soaked in wine, dried), Raw Fossilized Mammal Bones (Sheng Longgu) (1 qian each), Mole Cricket (Tugou, 10, killed in oil, dried).
These twelve ingredients weigh a total of 8 liang 8 qian. Grind into powder. Take 5 qian per dose, mixed with wine according to the location of the injury. Patients will feel the medicinal qi moving from the top of the head to the whole body, reaching the lesion, accompanied by a rustling sound, indicating gradual healing of bones and tendons. After taking this, take Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Astragali Membranacei Radix (Huangqi), Angelica Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Cinnamon Twig (Rougui), Licorice Root (Gancao), Angelica Dahurica Radix (Baizhi), and Magnolia Bark (Houpo) to tonify Yuan Qi.

Take warm on an empty stomach. Lizhai stated: The Spleen governs flesh, and the Liver governs sinews. If Liver and Spleen Qi/Blood are deficient, or if Blood deficiency with heat prevents healing, treat the root cause.

Calcine with 30 jin of charcoal. Cool and retrieve. Take 1 qian per dose, mixed with boy's urine (Tongbian).
