This worm is about one cun in length, white in color, and resembles a maggot. It reproduces through mother-offspring generation; some move independently, while others connect end-to-end continuously, allowing them to grow up to one or two zhang long. There is no remedy superior to Feizi Jian (Persimmon Seed Decoction) for treating Taenia solium (Tapeworm); its efficacy is miraculous.
*Ben Shi Fang* (Prescriptions of the Capable Physician) states: Using Xihui (Tin Ash), Wuyi (Chrysanthemum indicum fruit), and Binglang (Areca Nut) from *Liang Fang* yields excellent results. Administered at the fifth watch (early morning), all worms will be expelled. These ingredients should be ground into powder and taken with decoction made from Pomegranate Root bark, three qian per dose, or alternatively administered as pills.
*Geng Zhi* records: Zhao Zishan, courtesy name Jinggao, resided at Tianwang Temple in Shaowu Jun, suffering severely from Taenia solium infestation. Physicians unanimously advised abstaining from alcohol. However, due to his deep addiction, he found it impossible to quit. One night, he became drunk at an external lodging. By midnight, his mouth was dry and tongue parched. In haste, lacking tea or water, he noticed a jar of water under the corridor eaves. Illuminated by moonlight, the water appeared clear and scoopable. He drank it, finding it sweet as syrup, consumed several mouthfuls, and then went to bed. At dawn, the expelled worms covered the mat, and he felt immediate relief in his heart and abdomen; his chronic ailment was cured. His family was astonished. Upon investigation, the water he had drunk was actually water used by temple servants daily to soak red vine roots for weaving straw sandals.
Xiao'er Ganji (Pediatric Malnutrition Syndrome), also known as "Gan," arises from excessive dietary injury leading to accumulation. Symptoms include fever, abdominal distension, sallow complexion, limb weakness, lethargy, nasal ulceration with foul-smelling discharge, gingival sores, or black bloody dysentery. All these are caused by intestinal parasites. Treatment should primarily involve Jiwei Lulin Wan (Nine-Ingredient Aloe Pill), Zhuichong Wan (Worm-Chasing Pill), Siwei Feier Wan (Four-Ingredient Spleen-Nourishing Pill), Qiwei Feier Wan (Seven-Ingredient Spleen-Nourishing Pill), or Chan Chu Wan (Toad Pill). After the parasites are eliminated, regulation and tonification of Qi and Blood remain necessary.
*Bo Zhai Bian* records: Mao Jing, a military officer serving as Assistant Prefect of Shuizhou, suffered from a bizarre illness where a substance in his throat would echo every time he spoke. A Daoist priest instructed him to recite herb names from the Materia Medica. When he reached "Lan" (Isatis Root/Indigo Plant), he fell silent. Consequently, Isatis root juice was extracted and administered. Shortly after, he vomited a piece of flesh over one cun long, completely resembling a human form, and the echoing sound ceased thereafter. Chen Zhengmin's *Dun Zhai Xian Lan* (Leisurely Readings from Dunzhai) records that Yang Zhongnian suffered from a strange disease where a small voice inside his abdomen echoed his speech and responses. Over several years, this voice grew louder. A Daoist priest, witnessing this, exclaimed: "This is Ying Sheng Chong (Echoing Worm). If left untreated for long, it will spread to his wife and children. He should read the Materia Medica; when he reaches a herb name that causes the worm to fall silent, he should take that herb." Yang followed this advice. Upon reading "Lei Wan" (Polyporus Pill/Fungus Pill), the worm remained silent. He immediately ingested it and recovered. Later, Zhengmin traveled to Changsha and encountered a beggar with the same condition, surrounded by many onlookers. He taught the beggar to take Lei Wan, and the beggar too was cured.
