Among all parasitic worms, Ascaris lumbricoides (Hui Chong) is the most common. The methods for expelling them are generally consistent with the preceding article; however, expelling them while they continue to reproduce is ultimately not a sound strategy. To eliminate their source, it is necessary to warm and nourish the Spleen and Stomach; when the Qi of the Spleen and Stomach becomes strong, the worms will naturally cease to generate. Therefore, whether after expelling worms or before doing so, if one wishes to regulate and tonify the Spleen and Kidney, formulas such as Guipi Tang (Guizhi Tang), Wenwei Yin (Stomach-Warming Drink), Wu Junzi Jian (Five Gentlemen Decoction), Lizhong Tang (Center-Regulating Decoction), or Liyin Jian (Yin-Regulating Decoction) are all appropriate. If one wishes to treat both the worms and the underlying condition simultaneously, Wenzang Wan (Viscera-Warming Pill) is considered the best. In general, the treatment of parasitic worms involves either attacking or tonifying, each having its own appropriate sequence of urgency and priority, which must be carefully distinguished and should not be casually ignored.
The *Chao Shi Bing Yuan* states: "Whenever there is abdominal pain, the pulse method dictates it should be deep and weak; if the pulse is instead surging and large, this indicates Ascaris lumbricoides."
The *Yi Yu* states: "Ascaris lumbricoides is also counted among the Nine Worms; everyone has them in their abdomen. If infants are weaned too early or fed solid food prematurely, or consume excessive sweet foods, the Stomach becomes deficient and generates heat, leading to the birth of worms. This causes abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting of clear fluid, and visible blue veins on the abdomen. Roasted Quisqualis Fructus (Shi Jun Zi) can be given as food, followed by decoction of its shells taken orally, which is very effective. However, people often take it before sleep without observing specific days, resulting in little efficacy. It is only effective when taken at the fifth watch (around 1–3 AM) on the fourth or fifth day of the lunar month; by noon, the worms will be completely expelled. Thereafter, mild and harmonizing Stomach-regulating medicines can be used for one or two days to recover. Whenever worms reside in the abdomen, during the first ten days of the lunar month their heads point upward, during the middle ten days they lie horizontally, and during the last ten days their heads point downward. Therefore, administering medication during the middle or late periods means the medicine cannot enter the worm's mouth, hence its ineffectiveness. When cows or horses give birth, those born in the first period walk ahead of the mother, those born in the middle period walk side-by-side, and those born in the late period follow behind. Cats eating mice behave similarly. This is the natural principle of Heaven and Earth; all things follow it, yet people remain unaware."
In the Treatise on Cold Damage section, there are treatments for vomiting worms and Reversal Cold due to Ascaris. In the Vomiting section, there are methods for treating vomiting worms, along with clinical records. In the Swelling and Distension section, there is a clinical record by Sun Yikui regarding Ascaris. All these should be consulted.
The *Waitai Miyao* uses Kulian Tang (Toosendan Decoction) to treat Ascaris lumbricoides.
