The *Suwen: Yin Yang Bie Lun* states: Diseases of the Yangming channel originate in the Heart and Spleen, manifesting as difficult-to-disclose ailments and amenorrhea in women.
The *Suwen: Jue Lun* states: Jueyin Jue leads to swelling and pain in the lower abdomen, abdominal distension, difficulty in urination and defecation, a preference for lying down with knees flexed, and contraction and swelling of the genitals.
The *Suwen: Wei Lun* states: Endless thinking and unfulfilled desires, with mental indulgence in externals and excessive sexual intercourse, cause the Zongjin (major sinews) to become flaccid and relaxed, leading to Jin Wei (Sinew Atrophy) and Baiyin (seminal emission or leukorrhea). When the Yangming is deficient, the Zongjin becomes relaxed.
The *Lingshu: Xieqi Zangfu Bingxing Pian* states: A very large Ren Mai indicates Yin Wei (impotence); slight and choppy indicates amenorrhea; deep and stagnant indicates hemorrhoids.
The *Lingshu: Jingjin Pian* states: Disease of the Foot-Taiyin sinew causes twisting pain in the genitalia, radiating downward to the umbilicus. Disease of the Foot-Jueyin sinew causes dysfunction of the genitalia; internal injury leads to inability to erect; cold injury leads to retraction of the penis; heat injury leads to flaccidity, erection, and inability to retract.
The *Lingshu: Jingmai Pian* states: The Foot-Jueyin meridian knots at the penis. Qi reversal causes testicular swelling and sudden hernia; excess manifests as prolonged erection; deficiency manifests as severe itching.
The *Suwen: Zhi Zhen Yao Da Lun* states: Excess of Taiyang leads to difficult-to-disclose ailments and mutual pulling of the inner thighs.
The *Lingshu: Benshen Pian* states: If the Liver is moved by sorrow within, it injures the Hun. Injury to the Hun leads to mania, forgetfulness, and lack of clarity; it presents with genital retraction and sinew cramping, and immobility of the costal bones. Unresolved fear injures the Jing (Essence). Injury to the Jing leads to bone soreness, flaccidity, and Jue; the Jing leaks spontaneously.
The *Suwen: Shengqi Tongtian Lun* states: If Damp-Heat is not dispelled, the major sinews shorten and the minor sinews lengthen and relax. Shortening leads to spasm; lengthening and relaxing lead to atrophy.
The *Lingshu: Shu Wu Guo Lun* states: Huangdi said: In diagnosing patients, one must ask if they have experienced a fall from nobility to baseness. Even without external pathogens, disease arises internally, named Tuoying (Depletion of Ying). Experience wealth then poverty is named Shijing (Loss of Jing). The body diminishes daily; Qi is empty and Jing is depleted. In deep disease, Qi is exhausted, and there is frequent trembling fright. Deep disease occurs because the exterior depletes the Wei (Defensive Qi) and the interior robs the Ying (Nutritive Qi). The failure of skilled physicians lies in not understanding the condition; this is the first error in treatment. In diagnosing, one must ask about diet and residence, sudden joy or suffering, starting with joy then suffering. These all injure Jing-Qi. Exhaustion of Jing-Qi leads to destruction of the form. Sudden anger injures Yin; sudden joy injures Yang. Jue Qi ascends, filling the vessels and separating from the form. Foolish physicians do not know tonification and sedation, nor understand the condition; essence and brilliance are daily depleted, and pathogenic Qi merges; this is the second error in treatment.
The *Suwen: Yin Yang Yingxiang Dalun* states: The North generates Cold, corresponding to Fear in emotion. Fear injures the Kidney; Thought overcomes Fear.
The *Suwen: Xuanming Wuqi Pian* states: When Jing-Essence combines with the Kidney, Fear arises.
The *Suwen: Tiao Jing Lun* states: Excess of Blood leads to anger; deficiency leads to fear.
