Knee pain, feeling as if scorched by fire. This is due to deficiency in the lower jiao (lower burner), where damp-heat pathogens invade the meridians and collaterals.
Intestinal bleeding, pain at the tailbone region. This is attributed to deficiency in the lower jiao.
The Shaoyin (Kidney) qi has been chronically deficient; damp-heat flows downward, causing turbid urine. It is proposed to use a method of salty and bitter flavors to consolidate the yin and drain dampness.
The left pulse is wiry and rapid; throat pain with a sensation of obstruction.
The body appears robust but the pulse is faint, indicating an image of internal excess of yin-turbidity and trapped yang qi failing to circulate freely. Abdominal distension after eating, with intermittent distending pain at the Zhongwan (CV12) point. Yang qi relies on unobstructed movement for transformation; once yang qi circulates, yin-turbidity cannot ascend to interfere. This is what is meant by "the sun shines brightly, dissipating the dark clouds." However, chronic pain is not necessarily cold; relying solely on acrid-hot and rigidly warming herbs is inappropriate. Harmonization is the only approach.
Heart deficiency manifests as incessant laughter. This largely stems from excessive mental exertion, secretly depleting Heart Ying (nutritive blood), causing Heart Yang to transform into wind that beats internally, potentially progressing to Heart Wind disease. Regarding this illness, why must one read books?
The back belongs to Yang; the limbs are also governed by clear Yang qi. When Yang is weak, there is aversion to wind, fear of cold, and limb bi (painful obstruction).
Abdominal pain with diarrhea. Temporarily harmonize the Middle Jiao (middle burner).
Postpartum sundry diarrhea (undigested food in stool) persisting for months without cure. This is caused by emptiness in the Lower Jiao's Chong and Ren vessels, sinking of clear Yang qi, and loss of protection by the extraordinary vessels. The treatment method should be warming and nourishing.
Pulse is fine and choppy; leukorrhea with red and white discharge.
Qi becomes deficient due to essence depletion; fatigue warrants Ginseng. Why tonify Qi?
The left pulse is wiry; occasional mental restlessness, dizziness, sore waist and back, and slow digestion after meals. This is due to Shaoyin emptiness and floating Yang failing to submerge. Medication should not be biased towards warm and hot properties.
The pulse is small; Yang has not yet stirred. Self-perception of coolness in the nostrils. The Lung opens into the nose and governs the Qi of the whole body. Weak Qi and faint Yang are the signs thereof.
Phlegm-fluids obstruct upward, causing clear Yang to lose its expansive nature, resulting in back pain and palpitations.
