[Flavor and Nature] Sweet, salty, neutral in nature, non-toxic.
[Indications] Primarily tonifies the five Zang organs, makes the body plump and complexion fair and lustrous, treats redness and pain of the eyes with excessive tearing. Resolves toxicity from consuming beef liver alone; when taken with concentrated Soya Bean Decoction (Douchi), it is miraculously effective.
[Analysis] Says: Milk represents the trust of transformation, hence the character contains "Fu" (trust/hatch) and "Hua" (transform), abbreviated as "Qi". Physicians hide its name, calling it Immortal Wine or White Cinnabar.
It is formed from Yin Blood, generated by the Spleen and Stomach, regulated by the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) and Ren Mai (Conception Vessel); before pregnancy, it flows downward as menstrual blood; during pregnancy, it stays to nourish the fetus; after childbirth, it flows upward as breast milk.
For medicinal use, one should take milk from a healthy woman who has given birth to her first son, preferably white in color, thick in consistency, and odorless. Milk from pregnant women is called "Taboo Milk"; if infants drink it, it may cause vomiting and diarrhea or lead to malnutrition syndromes (Gan syndrome), possessing significant toxicity. Li Shizhen said: Human milk has no fixed nature. If the person is peaceful and eats/drinks regularly, the milk will be pure; if the person is irritable and irregular in diet, the milk will be hot. When ingested, it must be drunk warm; dried into powder by sun exposure, it is especially good for medicine.
[Commentary] Says: The separate fluid of the Yangming channel is called milk, which is the essence of water and grain. For those whose Zang-Fu organs are collapsing, taking it stabilizes them; for those whose bones and flesh are withered, taking it restores luster.

The Gallbladder is the official of uprightness, where decision-making arises; the Liver is the general's official, where strategy and deliberation emerge.
[Flavor and Nature] Pungent, slightly hot in nature, non-toxic.
[Indications] Primarily expels evil Qi, kills ghostly transmission toxins, stops palpitations and fright, treats malignant sores and scrofula (Shu Li); the skull bone is particularly effective.
[Analysis] Says: The Tiger is the chief of all beasts, the lord of mountain animals. In Chen and Wei regions, it is called Li Fu; in Jianghuai and Southern Chu, it is called Li Er, or sometimes referred to as [Character] (pronounced Hui), or [Character] (pronounced Wu) [Character] (pronoted Tu); east and west of the pass, it is called Bo Du. The Book of Han says it is [Character]. Light-haired ones are called [Character] (pronounced Chan), white ones [Character] (pronounced Han), black ones [Character] (pronounced Shu), yellow-black ones [Character] (pronounced Lei), pale ones Mo, tiger-like with five claws Qu (pronounced Ou), tiger-like but not true tigers Biao (pronounced Biao), and tiger-like with horns Si (pronounced Si). Shape like a cat, size like an ox, yellow body with black stripes, saw-like teeth, hook-like claws, short neck, protruding nose, strong and sharp whiskers, large and rough tongue, roaring like thunder, generating wind, terrifying all beasts. It begins to roar in the seventh month; roaring generates wind, wind generates sounds in all things; lying down stops the wind, stopping the wind silences all things, hence music stops using the tiger. It belongs to Wind-Wood, yet its body is Metal. Wood is controlled by Metal, hence wind follows the tiger, tiger's roar generates wind, this is the natural principle. Wherever tigers are, deer will cry to warn. Humans killed by tigers become Chang ghosts, guiding the tiger. Its appearance is timed, just as dragons appear at specific periods. Yin entities appear in winter, Yang insects emerge in summer. Emergence corresponds to Qi, Qi moves its kind; Can Fa star appears in winter, Xin-Wei constellations appear in summer; Can Fa is the Tiger Star, Xin-Wei is the Dragon image. When active, it breaks through; when walking, it cracks the earth. People now draw lines on the ground to observe odd/even for divination, called Tiger Divination. Its nature is extremely fierce and tearing; even when driven away, it lingers and looks back. Severely injured ones roar and leave; listening to the number of roars indicates distance. Generally, one roar equals one Li; sitting against rocks, leaning on trees to die, they never stiffen and fall. Their attack on prey does not exceed three leaps; if they miss, they give up. Food stops upon touching the ears, because it touches their name, named "Ear". Thus, tigers that have previously injured people often have notched ears like saw marks. At night, one eye emits light while the other observes objects, resembling a lamp; hunters wait and shoot, the gaze falls to the ground, obtained like white stone, some say it is its soul. Mid-winter marks the start of mating, resulting in lunar halos. They give birth in the seventh month; 3x9=27 numbers, their ruling star is the Tiger, hence [Character] takes tiger form, representing 27 discrepancies. 3x9 Yang Qi completes, Yang governs 7, hence head and tail measure seven Chi. Variegated patterns indicate mixed Yin and Yang. Three days after birth, cubs have the breath of eating cattle; those unable to hunt are killed to prevent martial decline. One litter per lifetime, always twins; the third litter produces leopards. Leopards are smaller than tigers, tails red and yellow, spots like coins, arranged side-by-side with hollow centers. Red body with black spots is Red Leopard; white body with black spots is White Leopard. Hanging its nose at the door induces childbirth, hence ancient prenatal education wanted mothers to see things of tiger/leopard bravery. Eating dog meat intoxicates it; smelling sheep horn smoke makes it flee. Tigers harm humans and beasts, but [Animal] controls rats; wisdom has no size. Lions, [Animal], You Er, Yellow Waist, Qu Sou can eat tigers; power has no strength difference. Ancient times had tigers turning into humans, humans into tigers; seas have sharks turning into tigers; such principles exist. The bone in the front paw wrist, round and flat like a chess piece, has the strongest power, as tiger strength lies in the palm. Various tiger parts are best sourced from male tigers. Those killed by poisoned arrows cannot be used; poison infiltrates bone and blood, harming humans. Crush them, apply butter, or use wine/vinegar according to method. Roast over willow charcoal until yellow and brittle, grind to flying dust; otherwise, it sticks in intestines causing stagnation masses.
My ancestor said: Tiger Qi gathers solemnity and killing energy, it is a Yin harsh entity in heaven and earth. Roaring shakes objects, movement generates wind, like a mobile palace. Poison-killed ones cannot be used; although processed according to methods, they must be wrapped in dog meat for one night, following Lei Gong's processing method, offering what they love to restore their spirit. Also said: Wherever the tiger is, wind follows, thus suitable for treating insufficient Wind-Wood or excessive Wind.
[Commentary] Says: When one Yang grows and begins to interact, pure Yin exhausts and begins to generate, speaking of Martial Arts. Wu means stopping weapons. No one dares to engage, and weapons stop. Guest asks: Treating various diseases, whether form or organ, fu or meridian, internal or external causes, leading to unpredictable changes, yet all attributed to Liver and Gallbladder. Western Metal beast, yet governing Eastern Jia Gallbladder and Yi Liver? Why? Answer: This is called "Control leads to Transformation." Without control, there is hyperactivity; hyperactivity leads to harm. Look at its breaking through, divining food, cracking odd/even with claws; it not only decides but also strategizes. Hence Liver generates Wind, its roar brings wind; Liver opens to eyes, its eyes glow at night; Liver stores Sinews, its sinews differ from others, standing erect even after death. Liver emotion is Anger, so those nurturing it dare not give living or whole creatures, due to the anger of killing and deciding. Generally, without balance, extreme momentum reverses, a necessary law. This treats Liver/Gallbladder imbalance causing reversal, making decision come from uprightness and strategy from the general. Guest says: I hear that lack of control leads to hyperactivity. But why is its shape dignified and located in Gen? Answer: Heaven South is Yang, North is Yin; Earth North is Yang, South is Yin, this is the principle of opposition. Hence its wall is Yin, palace is Wei; Gen symbolizes stopping. To show divine martial prowess without killing. This is strategy, this is decision. Guest advances: Gestating in Zi hour, born in Si hour, indeed. But records and unofficial histories mention metamorphosis, why? Answer: This meaning is profound, detailed in Buddhist texts, thoughts shift secretly, returning to karma. All living things, though different events, share the same principle, saying "manifested by mind," truly one must be cautious with intentions.
