There is also Lei Jun produced in Hengzhou, Guangxi, which grows immediately after thunderstorms and must be harvested quickly; otherwise, it rots or becomes tough. Made into soup, it is very delicious and its price is very precious.) The above are types of Zhi fungi.

Also known as Zhi Ma, also known as Ju Sheng Zi. Tonifies the liver and kidneys, moistens the five zang organs, and lubricates the intestines.
Sweet and neutral. Tonifies the liver and kidneys, moistens the five zang organs. Fills essence and marrow, strengthens sinews and bones, brightens eyes and ears, and resists hunger and thirst. (Can be used for Bigu [grain avoidance].) Blackens hair, promotes bowel movements. Treats paralysis caused by wind pathogens. (He Jian said: Numbness due to grain deficiency treats wind, and also said: To treat wind, first treat blood; when blood circulates, wind disperses. Hu Ma enters the liver to benefit blood, so it cannot be absent in wind-dispelling formulas. Li Tingfei's *San Yuan Yan Shou Shu* says: Wind patients who take it for a long time walk steadily and speak clearly. Shen Nong classified it as superior grade, and immortal texts record its functions; truly a miraculous substance.) Cools blood and resolves toxicity. (Chewed raw and applied to infant head sores.) Taking it makes the intestines slippery. (Most effective when used together with Bai Zhu.) Those with insecure essence and qi should not eat it. Those with black skin and flesh are good quality. Steamed nine times and sun-dried nine times, it can be consumed. (Tao Yingju said: Among the eight grains, only this one is excellent.) Ma You, treats sores and induces abortion. Used frequently in boiled paste. (Cools blood, stops pain, generates flesh, and resolves toxicity.) Bi Shi Hu Ma. (Also known as Ya Ma.) Sweet and slightly warm. Treats severe wind sores and tinea. (Zheng Dianyi often uses Bi Shi Hu Ma, assisted by Ku Shen and Ji Li, to treat severe leprosy and scabies, with frequent cures.) Its color resembles chestnut. (Smell is foul and inedible, only suitable for medicinal use.)
