Nourishes the Yin and body fluids of the Lung and Stomach. It is mild in nature and sweet and bland in taste. It treats phlegm-cough due to consumptive disease, providing tonification, moistening, and calming effects. (Swallow's nest is produced in the rocky areas near the sea south of Fujian and Guangdong. There is a bird called the Golden-nest Swiftlet, which resembles a swallow but is very small, with feathers like golden threads. When laying eggs and raising young, they fly in flocks to coastal rocks, feeding on paper fish, snails, and other creatures. They mix these with their saliva and vomit them out, adhering to the rocks to form small nests. Locals harvest them after the chicks have flown away. The taste is sweet and bland, the nature is mild, it moistens and nourishes Lung Yin, dispels deficiency heat, and is a miraculous medicine for coughs due to consumptive disease. It is unsuitable for those with Stomach deficiency leading to poor appetite, or Spleen and Kidney Yang deficiency.)
It absorbs the essence of Yin Qi; its eyes see clearly at night and are effective in treating blindness. It possesses a salty and cold nature; its feces (Ye Ming Sha) are pungent, bitter, and can promote blood circulation to resolve stasis. It can regulate pediatric malnutrition (Gan syndrome) and can be ground for external application to treat abdominal accumulations. (Ye Ming Sha is bat droppings. Bats are commonly known as oil-stealing mice. These rodents are adept at eating mosquitoes, and their eyes do not degenerate, so their feces contain mosquito eyes. Since mosquitoes feed on blood, the bat droppings can enter the Liver channel to break blood stasis. This rodent hides by day and flies by night, with eyes that see clearly in the dark, thus it can treat nyctalopia (night blindness) and remove corneal opacities. Its pungent, bitter, salty, and cold nature serves primarily to enter the Liver channel to break blood stasis and eliminate stagnation.)
The taste is originally salty and warm, it travels through the meridians to reach the site of the disease. Its efficacy is quite slippery and lubricating, treating wind-bi obstruction and unblocking deafness. (Pelican oil refers to goose fat. This oil has high permeability; it leaks through any container unless stored in the crop of the pelican itself. The taste is sweet and salty, the nature is warm. Its main indications include applying externally for carbuncles, sores, and wind-dampness conditions. It can only be used for external treatment and is not suitable for internal administration, merely taking advantage of its ability to penetrate and reach the disease site.)
It resolves drug toxicity and tonifies emaciation. Its nature is salty and neutral, benefiting the blood vessels. Pigeon eggs are used to prevent severe smallpox lesions. Pigeon droppings, possessing pungent, bitter, and salty properties, treat insect-related skin sores. (Among birds, males typically mount females, but pigeons exhibit female mounting male behavior, hence their nature is considered prone to lust. They are salty, neutral, non-toxic, benefit Essence, tonify deficiency, and resolve various drug toxicities. They can resolve toxins from sores, ulcers, smallpox, rashes, scabies, and tinea. ○ Pigeon eggs specifically resolve smallpox toxin and sore toxin. If consumed by children, they may prevent smallpox eruption; if eruption occurs, the lesions will be sparse. ○ Pigeon droppings are also named Zuo Pan Long (Left-Coiling Dragon) because the droppings coil to the left. They are pungent, bitter, salty, and warm. Internally, they can reduce accumulation and kill parasites; externally applied, they treat sores and scabies. Each has its appropriate use.)
