[Rhinoceros Horn]
Salty, bitter, and extremely cold in nature. It specifically enters the Heart meridian to treat blood-heat syndromes. Its medicinal property is light and agile, capable of resolving toxicity, and it excels at clearing heat from the Stomach fu organ to dissipate rashes. It treats hematemesis (spitting blood) caused by stagnant fire, and rescues critical conditions where smallpox lesions have collapsed and turned black. (Rhinoceros horn: The rhinoceros is a water-dwelling animal, and its horn is the gathering place of spiritual essence. It specifically resolves all kinds of water toxins and can also suppress evil spirits and dispel malevolent influences. With a salty flavor and cold nature, it enters the Blood aspect of the Heart and Stomach. For any conditions where fire pathogens scorch and burn within the Blood aspect of the Heart and Stomach, leading to symptoms such as hematemesis, epistaxis, Yang-toxicity with mania, or extreme heat, this herb can be used. Moreover, this herb is cold without being constrictive or inhibitory, possessing the intent of being light, clear, and dispersing. Therefore, for all diseases such as smallpox, measles, and sand-rash where internal heat fails to vent outward, it is most suitable.)
[Antelope Horn]
It clears heat and calms mania in the Liver and Gallbladder. It possesses a light and agile nature, is salty and cold, and resolves toxicity. It treats wind-spasm syndromes of the Jueyin Liver meridian. Its efficacy specializes in improving vision, dispelling malice, and eliminating pathogens. (Antelope horn: Most sheep belong to Fire, whereas antelopes belong to Wood; thus, it uniquely enters the Liver and Gallbladder meridians. The antelope has a spirited nature, and its horn is a clear and agile substance, so it can also resolve toxicity and dispel evil. As a salty and cold substance, it specifically clears Fire from the Liver and Gallbladder. For all eye diseases, convulsions, epilepsy, Liver wind, and Liver fire conditions caused by Liver and Gallbladder Fire, it can be used. Its function in venting smallpox and similar eruptions is also identical to that of Rhinoceros Horn.)
[Hyena Liver]
It dispels malevolent influences and kills parasites. It treats "Chuan Shi" (transmitting corpse tuberculosis/ghosts). It unblocks and reaches the Liver and Stomach. It is toxic but sweet and warm in nature. (Hyena liver: The hyena is a beast living near water. It has few other significant uses; only its liver can treat Shizhu disease (tuberculosis-like wasting syndrome) and kill phthisis worms. It tastes sweet and salty, is warm in nature, and has slight toxicity. It is said that the livers of various beasts have a fixed number of lobes, but the hyena's liver grows one lobe per month, totaling twelve lobes by the twelfth month; whether this is true is unknown. Generally, it is believed that as a flesh-and-blood product, it can enter the Liver to kill parasites and dispel malevolent influences. Additionally, since the hyena is adept at eating fish, burning its liver to ash and taking it with wine is also effective for treating fishbone impaction in the throat.)
