Vining Plants
*Jiexincao* (Mustard Heart Grass): Crushing *Jiexincao* into powder is highly effective for treating sores and scabies (from *Tujing Bencao*). [Seedling] (*Tujing Bencao* states): Initially resembling *Lamo grass*, it spreads via vines, has white stems and yellow roots. [Habitat]
*Cuzilin* (Vinegar Fruit Tree): Slightly toxic, vining. *Cuzilin* treats heart pain caused by roundworm biting, hemorrhoids with bleeding, chronic dysentery that does not heal, and especially pediatric malnutrition with roundworms causing abdominal distension, yellowish emaciation, and expulsion of *Cunbai* worms (tapeworms). When crushed alone into powder and taken with wine (one *qianbi*), it is very effective (from *Tujing Bencao*). [Seedling] (*Tujing Bencao* states): The tree grows over one *zhang* high, with purple lush branches. It flowers in the third month with white, four-petaled blooms. Fruits form in the ninth and tenth months, hanging in clusters of dozens; they are green when unripe and red when ripe, somewhat resembling cherries but with shorter pedicels. Locals often preserve them with salt and vinegar as fruit food, which generates body fluids, awakens from drunkenness, and quenches thirst. When fully ripe, they are harvested and dried in the shade, used together with the pits. The leaves are sour; the Yi-Liao people harvest them to mix with salt and fish for eating, which is superior to using vinegar. [Habitat] (*Tujing Bencao* states): Found in the mountains and forests of Qiongzhou. [Season] Leaves sprout in spring. [Harvest] Fruits can be taken at any time. [Usage] Use the fruits. [Color] Red. [Flavor] Sour. [Nature] Warm. [Qi and Flavor] The Qi is stronger than the flavor; belongs to Yin within Yang. [Contraindications] Do not eat too much, as it may cause roughness and cracking of the mouth and tongue.
*Tianxianteng* (Aristolochia Vine): Non-toxic, vining. *Tianxianteng* relieves labor-wind; if combined with *Mahuang* (Ephedra), it induces sweating to treat Shanghan (Cold Damage); if taken with *Dahuang* (Rhubarb), it causes abortion (from *Tujing Bencao*). [Seedling] (*Tujing Bencao* states): Sprouts in spring, growing as vines. Leaves resemble those of Kudzu, being round and small, hairy, and white, remaining evergreen. Roots have fibrous hairs. [Habitat] (*Tujing Bencao* states): Grows in the Jianghuai region and eastern Zhejiang mountains. [Season] Grows in spring.
