Non-toxic. Grows in stones.
Pusa Shi (Bodhisattva Stone): Resolves drug toxicity, Gu poison (parasitic or magical poisoning), and reactions triggered by mineral drugs; treats carbuncles and sores, thirst diseases; eliminates blood stasis from falls and bruises; stops heat-induced mania, convulsions, and epilepsy; regulates menstruation; resolves wind-induced swelling; eliminates strangury. Taken as a water-milled liquid, it is effective for injuries caused by snakes, insects, bees, scorpions, wild wolves, dog bites, and poisoned arrows; applied externally as a powder, it is also excellent. (Recorded by Famous Physicians) [Origin] (Bencao Yan Yi states) It originates from Mount Emei, resembling crystal in clarity and transparency. When illuminated by sunlight, it displays five colors like the halo of a Buddha, hence its name. It is rarely used by contemporary physicians. (Mingyi Bie Lu records) In Jiazhou, Mount Emei, there is Pusa Shi, which people often collect. Its color is bright white and lustrous, similar to the wild wolf tooth stone from Mount Tai or the rock crystal from Shangrao Prefecture. Sunlight shining upon it produces five-colored light, resembling the circular halo of a Buddha's head. [Harvest] (Growth) No fixed season. (Collection) No fixed season. [Selection] The clear and transparent ones are superior. [Texture] Similar to crystal but with luster. [Color] White. [Taste] Bland. [Nature] Neutral and cold. [Qi Property] Qi is thin, belonging to Yin within Yang. [Odor] Rotten. [Indications] Resolves various toxins, applies topically to sores.
Non-toxic. Grows in stones.
Posuo Shi (Mo Suo Stone / Malachite variant): Primarily resolves all drug toxicities, heat oppression, headache caused by miasma epidemics. (Recorded by Famous Physicians) [Name] Mo Suo Shi. [Origin] (Bencao Tujing states) Produced in the South Sea, Hu people value it highly. Those without spots and containing gold stars, when ground into a milky liquid, are of the highest grade. Decorated with gold to make finger rings, they are held in the mouth and sucked several times before and after meals to prevent poisoning. Currently, a piece the size of a fingernail commands a very high price. There is also Dou Ban Shi (Bean-spotted Stone); although it can resolve toxins, its efficacy is inferior. There is also Elv Shi, which has grain patterns and turns iron into copper color when ground; people often use this as a substitute, not the true product. To verify authenticity, grind with water and drop onto fresh chicken comb blood; if it dissolves into water, it is genuine. [Harvest] (Growth) No fixed season. (Collection) No fixed season. [Texture] Similar to Shilv (Malachite) but with gold stars. [Color] Green. [Taste] Bland. [Nature] Neutral. [Qi Property] Qi is thin, belonging to Yin within Yang. [Odor] Rotten. [Efficacy] Resolves all drug toxicities.
Non-toxic. Grows in soil.
Lugan Shi (Calamine): Treats wind-heat red eyes, whether itchy or painful, gradually forming nebulae (corneal opacity); and treats sores in the lower body, applied topically mixed with saliva. (Supplemented now) [Origin] According to records, this herb originates from valleys in Chuan-Guang and Chizhou. Its shape is fine and soft, layered in blocks of varying sizes. Some are pink like plum blossoms; others are bluish-white mixed with stone texture. For medicinal use, only pure white and fine ones are considered superior; other colors that are coarse and rough are inferior. Currently, this stone is used to smelt crab shell copper into yellow brass. [Harvest] (Growth) No fixed season. (Collection) No fixed season. [Selection] Those resembling sheep brain texture are superior. [Color] White. [Taste] Sweet. [Nature] Neutral. [Qi Property] Qi is thin, belonging to Yin within Yang. [Odor] Rotten. [Indications] Brightens eyes and reduces nebulae. [Processing] When used, calcine over charcoal fire until red-hot, quench in urine of a young boy thirty times, then grind finely. Decoct Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Longdan Cao (Gentianae Radix) each 1 liang, and Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) 3 qian in two bowls of water. Use the water-flying method (levigation), then steam dry over hot water, grind again for about one day until extremely fine like flour. [Treatment] Treats eye dimness and redness, excessive discharge, tearing, photophobia, wind-induced eye redness and ulceration, hidden astringency and pain, sudden swelling and pain, and nebulae obscuring vision. [Compound Treatment] Mix 4 liang of processed Lugan Shi with Qingfen (Calomelas), Baifan (Alumen), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) each half liang, Tongqing (Chalcanthite) 1.5 liang, Baixiang Ding (Styrax), Ruxiang (Olibanum), Qianbaishuang (Lead White Frost), Danfan (Chalcanthite) each one zi.
