Slightly toxic.
Tongnu Ya (Crossbow Trigger) mainly treats difficult childbirth, blood obstruction, amenorrhea, and blockage of Yin and Yang Qi mechanisms (Recorded by Famous Physicians). [Origin] Tao Hongjing stated that it is the crossbow trigger used for shooting arrows nowadays. Take a red-hot trigger, immerse it in wine, drink the juice; using ancient methods is superior. According to "Nan Yue Zhi", during the Tang Dynasty, copper triggers flowed out in Longchuan, with silver-yellow carved patterns in the water, which were taken to make crossbows. [Usage] Those aged are better. [Color] Yellow. [Nature] Neutral. [Qi Flavor] Thin Qi, Yin within Yang. [Treatment] "Bie Lu" states it treats children choking on swallowed pearls or coins. Red-hot the copper trigger, place it in water, freeze, and drink the juice to immediately relieve choking. [Combined Treatment] Red-hot the copper trigger, throw it into three he of vinegar, let stand for a long time, take at once to facilitate easy childbirth for pregnant women. ○ Alternatively, red-hot the trigger, immerse in wine, and drink to treat choking from accidentally swallowing copper or iron, curing immediately.
Non-toxic. Attached: Yinxing Shi (Silver Star Stone), Earth-born.
Jinxing Shi (Gold Star Stone) mainly treats toxicity from stagnation in Spleen and Lung, as well as lung damage causing hemoptysis, coughing up blood, and discharging hot saliva; it resolves various toxins. There is also Yinxing Shi, whose main therapeutic effects are generally similar to Jinxing Shi (Recorded by Famous Physicians). [Origin] "Tu Jing" states it grows in Bingzhou and Haozhou. There is another type of Yinxing Shi with different color but similar properties. "Yan Yi" states that Jinxing Shi has golden bran-like flakes inside and outside the gray stone, while Yinxing Shi has silver-colored bran-like flakes. Another type is dark green, hard and moist, with golden bran-like flakes inside, not used in medicine. Artisans grind it for vessels or jewelry, mostly using this stone. [Harvest Time] Anytime. [Usage] Gray color with gold stars is best. [Color] Gray. [Taste] Bland. [Nature] Cold. [Qi Flavor] Thin Qi, Yin within Yang. [Odor] Rotten. [Main Action] Clears Lung heat, stops hemoptysis. [Processing] Forge in fire, grind finely, use water levigation. [Treatment] "Yan Yi" states it removes severe wind diseases. [Detoxification] Resolves various toxins.
Toxic.
Tesheng Shi (Special Born Stone) mainly brightens eyes and benefits ears, eliminates extreme cold in the abdomen, breaks firm accumulations, kills rats, hundred insects, and evil beasts; long-term use prolongs life (Recorded by Famous Physicians). [Name] Cangshi (Gray Stone), Shudu (Rat Poison). [Origin] "Tu Jing" states it grows in Western Regions and Liangzhou. Tao Hongjing stated that those from old stork nests are best, as storks often enter cold water, so they take it to cover eggs to keep them warm. Now it is unavailable, only those from Hanzhong are used. Its exterior is purple-red, interior white like frost, with a central mortar-like shape resembling teeth being best. Dashan Fang states it also grows in Fangling County, Xincheng Commandery, Jingzhou, with pale white being good. It must be wrapped in yellow earth and fired before use, combined with pills such as Yuhu Wan. The "Xian Jing" says if not called "Tesheng," it is merely the aforementioned Baishi (White Stone). "Tang Ben Zhu" states that the Tesheng Shi described by Tao Hongjing, with a center like tooth mortars, is found in the streams north of Madaoshu in Liangzhou. The lumps are larger than Baishi, with muscle grains several times larger, like small bean-sized Baishi particles, whereas Baishi particles are fine like millet grains. "Yan Yi" states that Tesheng Shi and Shi are mentioned in "Bowuzhi" and by Tao Hongjing as stones taken by storks to cover eggs, implying they are one substance. Tao Hongjing further said the "Xian Jing" does not call it Tesheng, meaning it is just the previous Baishi. Current annotations simply interpret the text without seeing the meaning of "Tesheng." Probably these two entries refer to one substance, distinguished only by whether it is special or not. What is meant by "Tesheng" is not attaching to other stones. Nowadays, very little is used, only entering medicine under two characters. However, it must be used with extreme caution due to its high toxicity. The claim about stork nests is likely erroneous, as there are no such stones in stork nests. Storks entering cold water to cover eggs is a misconception; cormorants and geese also feed and reproduce in water without using this stone. One should not rigidly adhere to the stork nest theory. [Harvest Time] Anytime. [Usage] Solitary growth not attached to other stones is best. [Color] Exterior purple-red, interior white. [Taste] Sweet. [Nature] Warm and mild. [Qi Flavor] Thick Qi, Yang. [Odor] Odorous. [Antagonism] Feared by Water. [Processing] Fire-refined for use.
