Salty, cold in nature, non-toxic. Enters the Liver Meridian (Liver Channel). Wrapped in silk fabric, boiled in tofu for the time it takes to burn one incense stick, then ground into an extremely fine powder.
Externally applied to close wounds and generate flesh, used in the eyes to remove nebulae. Wrapped in cotton and inserted into the ear to treat deafness; applied to the face to preserve youthful appearance and moisture. Internally taken to quench thirst and eliminate steaming bone disorder (deficiency heat), calm the soul and stabilize palpitations.
It condenses by inheriting the essence of Taiyin (Lung and Large Intestine meridians); thus, its therapeutic actions mostly enter the Yin meridians.
The pearl body is the hardest; when ground as fine as flying flour, it is ready for use. If not ground finely, it will damage the viscera. Contraindicated for diseases not caused by fire-heat.
Pungent, warm in nature, toxic. Enters the Stomach and Kidney meridians.
Treats back carbuncles and ding sores (malignant skin infections), five types of childhood malnutrition with emaciation, immediately stops toothache, and effectively supports sexual function.
In surgical formulas, it has life-saving efficacy. However, light use can cause blistering and rot muscle tissue.
Bitter, sour, astringent, neutral in nature, non-toxic. Enters the Lung and Stomach meridians.
External treatment: Sprinkled on mouth ulcers, allowing eating after a moment; washed on rectal prolapse, reducing it instantly. Dyes white hair and beard black; treats rotten eye conditions.
Internal administration: Astringes the Lung and resolves phlegm, thus effective for cough; clears heat and generates fluids, thus suitable for quenching thirst. Bleeding from above and below is stopped; sweating due to yin or yang imbalance is cured.
Chronic diarrhea and dysentery are halted; swelling and toxins dissipate upon emergence.
Chinese Gall (Wubeizi): Specifically for astringency. Contraindicated for cough due to wind-cold; contraindicated for diarrhea/dysentery not due to collapse; contraindicated for cough due to excess lung fire. Misuse causes fullness because its astringency is too abrupt, preventing the escape of fire qi.
Salty, warm in nature, non-toxic.
Treats bi pain (painful obstruction syndrome) and carbuncles; can penetrate tendons and bones.
Its grease is rendered by boiling; stored in its own crop (esophageal pouch), it does not leak. Even if stored in gold, silver, porcelain, or jade vessels, leakage occurs, demonstrating its power to enter bones and penetrate marrow. However, it is only for external application, not added to decoctions or pills.
(See Heart Meridian)
Pungent, cold in nature, toxic.
Uses poison to attack poison; detoxifies and kills parasites. For external use only; effective against lice.
Nature and flavor are the same as Mercury.
Beneficial externally for malignant sores and ulcers that do not heal for a long time; extracts toxins and generates flesh. For adult nocturnal sweating and infant night crying, ground into powder, mixed with saliva, and applied to the umbilicus.
For gan erosion of lips and nose, and all swellings/toxins, external treatment often leads to recovery. For cracked hands and feet, premature graying of hair and beard, application and dyeing yield rapid results.
For chronic hemorrhoids and anal prolapse, smoke first, then sit in decoction bath.
This drug is primarily for external use; never take internally.
