[Balsamodendron Myrrha (Baijiaoxiang)]
Pungent, bitter, neutral, non-toxic. Relieves pain, generates flesh, invigorates blood, and resolves toxicity. Treats all kinds of malignant sores and metal wounds; heals various swellings and wind-induced itching. Most effective for hematemesis and epistaxis.
Grows in mountains everywhere, but most abundant in the South and Guan-Shaan regions today. The tree is very tall and robust, resembling a white poplar. Leaves are round with lobes, triangular in shape, and fragrant. Flowers appear in February, white in color. After frost, leaves turn red and are lovely; in ancient times, Han dynasty palaces planted many of them.
For all kinds of malignant sores, mix Baijiaoxiang (Myrrh Resin) and Songxiang (Pine Rosin) each 1 liang, with Xiangyou (Sesame Oil) and Huangla (Yellow Beeswax) each 3 qian. Melt together, pour into water, pull repeatedly until elastic, spread, and apply as a plaster. (Verified Formula 1.)
For ulcers that do not heal, mix with Qingfen (Calomel) and Zhuzhi (Pig Fat) and apply externally. (Formula 2.)
For painful malignant sores, mix with Qingfen into powder, cleanse the affected area with Jiangshui (Fermented Rice Water), and apply.
