Grows in valleys of Xianyang; now found everywhere, often in household gardens. Sprouts in spring, three to four chi high. Leaves are green like ox tongues and long. Stems are greenish-red, very soft and brittle. Flowers are red-purple and clustered in summer and autumn. Roots resemble radishes and are long, with red and white varieties; the white ones are used medicinally, while the red ones are toxic. Harvested in August and September.

Grows in Changshan; harvested in December. Now commonly found in plains and marshes. Stems are straight, two to three chi high, hollow, exuding white latex when broken. Leaves are narrow and long like willow leaves but not round; tip leaves gather densely upwards.
