Bitter, neutral, sweet, warm, non-toxic. Strengthens the waist and legs, fortifies sinews and bones, dispels wind-deficiency, and benefits the joints. For post-illness foot swelling, decocting for washing is most suitable; [it treats] elderly lower back pain while treating knee pain, stops enuresis, and tonifies kidney deficiency.
It grows in Changshan and mountain valleys, harvested in the second and eighth lunar months. Currently, it is also found in Taihang Mountain, Zizhou, Wenzhou, and Meizhou. There are two varieties: one is black like dog spine bone, and the other has golden-yellow hair resembling a dog shape. It resembles Bi Bo (Long Pepper Fruit) and Bi Xie. Its seedlings and leaves resemble Guan Zhong.
Bitter, slightly cold, toxic. Primarily treats various bleeding disorders, kills three types of parasites (roundworms, pinworms, tapeworms), resolves heat toxins, simultaneously alleviates fish or chicken bone stuck in the throat, stops traumatic bleeding from metal wounds, and also treats lacquer dermatitis.
It grows in Xuanshan and Yuanju Shaoshi Mountain, mostly in shaded mountain areas near water. The stems and leaves resemble phoenix tails, with a single root penetrated by many branches. The root is similar to black dog spine bone; therefore, for incessant epistaxis, taking the powder stops it immediately. (Verified Formula 1.)
For various lower jiao bleeding, bake until cooked, make into pills with vinegar. (2.)
For metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, bake and grind into powder, take half tael, stop immediately with wine. (3.)

For chronic red and white leukorrhea unresponsive to other medicines, use the same formula as above. (5.)
For chronic cough with pus and blood, decoct with Su Mu (Sappan Wood) and Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger). (6.)

For itching lacquer dermatitis, grind into powder, mix with sesame oil, and apply externally. (8.)
For alopecia capitis (tinea capitis), mix with Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) and sesame oil, apply externally. (9.)
For alopecia capitis, burn to ash, grind into powder, mix with oil, and apply externally. (10.)
For chicken or fish bone stuck in the throat, mix with Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus) and Gan Cao into powder, wrap in cotton, suck the juice, and after a long time, it will be expelled with saliva. (11.)
For intractable bloody dysentery, decoct with wine and take. (12.)
For painful swelling of inguinal abscesses, take 2 qian with wine. (13.)
