If it can adsorb *Jiecao* (a fine herb) after being wiped with a cloth to generate heat, or rubbed by the palm of the hand to generate heat, it is authentic.
Sweet in taste, neutral in nature, non-toxic. [Amber] calms the spirit, disperses blood stasis, promotes urination to unblock strangury, breaks up masses and accumulations, strengthens the heart, brightens the eyes, clears lung heat, and promotes diuresis. It treats traumatic injuries from metal weapons by stopping bleeding and generating flesh, stabilizes the soul and spirit, wards off evil influences, removes gu poison, and pacifies epilepsy.
Resin from maple trees falls into the ground and transforms into amber over a thousand years; it is not solely derived from pine resin. It is abundantly produced in Linyi in the South Sea. Regarding amber formed from pine resin sinking into the earth: where amber is found, there is no Poria growing nearby; it is unknown whether Poria grows in places where amber is produced.
When used raw, avoid contact with iron.
Sweet in taste, neutral in nature, non-toxic. Enters the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian and the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. Treats swelling and abdominal pain, eliminates damp-heat causing restlessness, resolves strangury with swelling and Hong Kong foot (podagra/foot rot), and subsides Zilin (strangury during pregnancy). Treats malaria and detoxifies gu poison; stops turbid leukorrhea and dribbling urine, and resolves severe fever caused by cold-warm diseases.
Produced at the shores of Hengshan, Jiyin, Yuanju, Shuzhou, Xizhou, etc. It is formed from the residual qi of trees, similar to the principle that residual qi of pine trees forms Poria. For Poria from other trees, those with white flesh and solid texture are superior.
For generalized edema and fullness with difficult urination, take five liang of Poria, grind into powder, and take three qian with plain water, three times daily. (Verified Formula 1.)
For pregnancy-related edema and thirst, swelling from feet to abdomen, with difficult urination. Same usage as above. (2.)
For Zilin (strangury during pregnancy). Same usage as above. (3.)
For body swelling like soft cotton, use two qian of Tongcao (*Akebiae Caulis*), three qian of Polyporus, two qian of Poria, two qian of Areca Seed, a small amount of Jiedixin (*Centellae Herba*), and three qian of Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome. Decoct in water and take orally. (4.)
Polyporus Decoction (Zhu Ling Tang): Consists of Polyporus, Poria, Alisma Rhizome, Talcum, and Donkey-hide Gelatin.
Treats heat-induced thirst, urinary retention, and floating pulse; also treats vomiting with thirst, restlessness, and insomnia. (Formula 1 among various formulas.)
Polyporus Powder (Zhu Ling San): Consists of Polyporus, Alisma Rhizome, and Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome.
Grind into powder. Treats the desire to drink water after vomiting. (2.)
(To be used after soaking in Licorice water or steaming with wine. Li Shi (*Litchi Chinensis* seed), Hou Po (*Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex*), Xu Gen (*Polygoni Cuspidati Rhizoma et Radix*), and Yuan Hua (*Genkwa Flos*) serve as guiding herbs. Bitter in taste, cold in nature, slightly toxic. Kills various parasites and gu poison, expels wind-pathogens associated with epilepsy. Long-term use causes impotence.
Produced in stone city valleys and soils of Hanzhong. Harvested in August. This is the sclerotium of bamboo. Size like chestnuts, shape round like Polyporus but more spherical, black skin and white flesh, without stems or vines.)
