Growing within *Sappanwood* (Caesalpinia sappan), it is obtained by splitting the wood. It is difficult to obtain, so one must instruct dye houses to collect and store it continuously; any quantity can be used for medicine.
Treats sudden heart pain. *Jiusheng Kuhai* records using Tiancheng Sha mixed with warm wine to treat heart pain, with miraculous efficacy.
This refers to the husks shed when Duan bamboo (Bambusa emeiensis) is young. The *Bencao Gangmu* bamboo section only records the husks of Cizhu bamboo, omitting Duan bamboo, unaware that its property can remove eye nebulae (corneal opacity), with effects similar to Bear Gallbladder (Xiong Dan), thus this supplement is added.
Cijun Dan treats eye nebulae. Yicaoting Ophthalmology Formula: Take an unspecified amount of Duan bamboo husk, wipe off the hairs with cloth, burn to charcoal while retaining medicinal properties. For every qian (approx. 3.7g) of medicine, add 3-5 li of Moschus (She Xiang), grind together into a fine powder, and apply directly onto the nebula, which is most excellent.
Li's *Caomi*: For various sores, carbuncles, pustules, and malignant boils that ulcerate and fail to heal for a long time, scrape the yellow inner layer from Taosi bamboo, grind into powder, and apply externally. Reduces phlegm-fire; decoct and take internally, with efficacy surpassing Duan Zhu Ru (Bamboo Shavings).
Treats snake bites and Tianshe Du (specific snake venom toxicity).
Wang An's Herb Collection Formula: Treats Fabei (back carbuncle) where new flesh does not grow; take Taozhu Ru (bamboo shavings from Peach Bamboo) and form into cakes for topical application. For metrorrhagia (uterine bleeding), take the green outer layer of bamboo, stir-fry into powder, mix with water, and take orally.
Taozhu Sun (Peach Bamboo Shoots): Treats sores and carbuncles in six domestic animals (cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, dogs, chickens) infested with maggots internally; decoct in water and wash the area to eliminate them. *Caomi*: Bai Zhuo (white turbid discharge); decoct and take orally for cure (*Caomi*).
Taozhu Sun Ke (Husk of Peach Bamboo Shoots): Treats Yangmei Chu (Syphilis/Chancre); burn to ash, mix with wine, and take orally (Wang An).
This refers to the inner membrane of Jin Zhu (Golden Bamboo); split fresh bamboo to obtain for medicinal use.
Treats hoarseness and chronic cough due to consumption: Zhang Jingyue's ancient formula "Yinzhen": Treats all cases of consumptive disease with phlegm-cough and hoarseness where voice cannot be produced; difficult cases show miraculous efficacy after taking. Use 1 qian of fresh Zhuyi (Bamboo Integument), one pill-sized piece of Zhuru (Bamboo Shavings, specifically the green skin of Jin Bamboo scraped off), Zhuli (Bamboo Juice obtained by burning Jin Bamboo), 2 qian of Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong), 5 fen each of Licorice Root (Gancao) and Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae (Juhong), 1 qian each of Poria (Fuling) and Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng), 7 apricot kernels peeled and crushed, 1.5 zhong of water, add 14 leaves of Bambusa vulgaris var. striata (Zhuye), decoct until reduced to 0.7 zhong, add one cup of Zhuli, mix well, and take orally.
The current Chouju (Stinking Citrus) is very common in mountains and fields; fruits are small with thin skins, branches are thorny, and fruits smell foul, so people mostly discard them. Under the Jujú entry in *Bencao Gangmu*, leaves, thorns, seeds, and bark are recorded, but the fruit is omitted. Ye Tianshi's family copy of Bencao contains indications for treatment; it is specially recorded here as a supplement, with aged material being better for medicine. *Julu*: Jujú is green in color and strong in odor; small ones resemble Zhi Shi (Immature Bitter Orange); large ones resemble Zhi Qiao (Ripe Bitter Orange). Recently, Zhi Shi has been hard to find, so people often plant Jujú along fences, harvest the fruits, slice and dry them to mix with medicines; their taste is almost indistinguishable from Zhi from Shangzhou.
Treats Zi Yong (parorchitis) and hernia: Take whole Jujú, process to retain medicinal properties (calcine or char partially), grind into powder, and send down with aged wine.
Resolves alcohol toxicity. (From *Fengyuan*)
Epigastric knotted pain: Take Jujú fruit, process to retain medicinal properties, and take with wine using a Fang Cun Bi (ancient measuring spoon, approx. 1 qian). For various pains due to internal injury, soak the fruit in vinegar and boil into a paste for topical application; long-term application is required to prevent recurrence, because its power can break Qi stagnation and dissipate heat.
