Feng Yuan stated: Pick out the eyes of the pufferfish, mix with Qinfen (Calomel), bury in the ground to dissolve into water, and use it to extract chicken warts on women's feet, which can remove them by the root.
This fish is toxic and can be used to eliminate bed bugs. *Xingqie Jianmi* records: Mix Xieke (Crab Shell), Zhangnao (Borneol/Camphor), and Bingpian (Borneol) each at 5 fen, mix with cotton seeds, place under the bed, and fumigate with the smoke.
*Sancai Zao Yi* records: Produced in Fuxian Lake, shaped like a turtle shell, green in color, as large as a plate, without a tail, has feet, white belly.
Consuming it can ward off miasma toxins.
*Huanyou Biji* records: Entering Siming Mountain from Guangxi for over twenty li, there is a Miyan (Honey Cliff), a sheer cliff thousands of xun high, overlooking a deep stream below, with bottomless caves. At the top of the cliff, old bee nests existed, gathering millions of bees; their honey dripped down, and the fish in the stream ate it, thus the fish meat tasted extremely sweet, called Miguyu (Honey Aunt Fish). Its fishing method involves much complexity; the fish nature strongly likes moss. One must lower bait suspended by rope down the cliff, where aquatic moss sways in deep emerald green and is tender; scoop it as bait. The fish nature is violent; upon encountering the hook, it jumps on rocks, making it difficult to control. However, the stream water under Miyan is very clear. If using a thick rope, one fears the fish will see it and swim away startled; if using thin silk, one fears it may not withstand the force of the fish jumping on rocks. The angler therefore takes a silk line more than ten zhang long, coils it on a pole, and from afar sees the fish swimming joyfully with gills flaring in the deep waves. Then, slowly release the silk, just as a child releases a paper kite, allowing the fish to go where it wishes. Once the fish enters the hook, it indeed leaps several chi, tossing waves and surging across the stream surface, its scales flashing like thousands of pieces of broken gold mixed with pearl grains scattered by the wind. Observers are all dazzled and moved. After a while, when the fish becomes exhausted, it can be retrieved.
This fish is warm in nature and sweet in taste. Consuming it generates stomach fluids, benefits lung qi, nourishes blood vessels, increases marrow, removes heat, eliminates emaciation, strengthens sinews and bones, stops cough and calms asthma. Its efficacy is similar to that of Yanci (Swallow's Nest) and Gejie (Gekko Gecko).
Note: This fish is the cleanest, feeding only on moss and honey. Moss is cold in nature, while honey is warm; obtaining the power of Water and Fire having achieved harmony, it greatly tonifies Earth to generate Metal. Yanci (Swallow's Nest) is clear and purgative, descending downward; Gejie (Gekko Gecko) is harmonious and warms the viscera. This fish can combine both functions, truly being a superior food-medicine for patients with chronic cough and emaciation. *Liuya Waibian* records that Zhang Fanghai was from Zhejiang. When young, he studied in Siming Mountain and once went without grain for several months. The valleys were full of bamboo, and cliffs had honey. Honey flowing into the river transformed into fish, named Mi Yu (Honey Fish). Zhang dug bamboo shoots to fish and eat them, stating that the shoot taste was light and clear, while the honey fish was rich and delicious, surpassing even Tiantai Sesame. Thereafter, his body became light, resistant to cold and heat, and he no longer craved ordinary cooked food. Based on this, its efficacy is indeed not false.
