Sun Hanyi stated: A guest from Sichuan brought Kan blood (blood of the Kan beast), saying that this beast is a Star Bird, belonging to the Well Mansion in the sky, descending to the world only once every five hundred years to save people. Its descent must occur in Shu; three days before its descent, strong winds blow in the sky, shaking houses and uprooting trees, known as the "Kan Descent Wind." Residents of surrounding villages, knowing the Kan will descend, all evacuate and seek blacksmiths to manufacture lotus-sepal-shaped arrowheads, olive-shaped with a concave center, engraved with names for identification. On the day of the Kan's descent, it resembles a Hu dog, has scales, is ten times larger than an elephant, and its head always faces Jupiter (Sui Xing), squatting motionless. Locals shoot it from behind, arrows gathering on its body like a hedgehog. Three days later, it leaves, dropping the arrowheads on the ground. Each person retrieves the arrowhead they engraved, with no disputes. The tip of the arrowhead contains a piece of blood, the size of an olive pit, which can be used as medicine. Locals treasure it greatly and do not sell it lightly. Since its last descent during the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty, nearly four hundred years have passed, and such precious medicinal materials are rarely preserved. Some old aristocratic families may still possess them, treating them as preciously as the He Shi Bi jade.
It treats all Yin abscesses (Yin Ju) and back carbuncles (Fa Bei), as well as all severe toxins. For any fatal case of carbuncle or ulcer where no medicine can save the patient, using one li (a unit of weight) is effective: if the lesion has ulcerated, apply ointment externally; if not ulcerated, mix with wine and take orally, resulting in self-healing within one night. When combined with other medicines for treating carbuncles, adding a small amount to one jin (500g) of the mixture yields miraculous effects.

San Gang Shi Lue records: On the tenth day of the first month of the Renzi year, a garrison soldier in Fushan encountered a drunken tiger, bound it, and presented it at the Yumen (tent gate) of General Wang. The general cut the tiger meat and distributed it to the children of local gentry. Eating it can prevent smallpox (Xi Dou). Note: Tigers become intoxicated after eating humans, willow trees, or dogs.
Huan You Bi Ji records the method used by mountain hunters to capture tigers: Tigers are fond of eating dogs, and consuming dogs causes them to become drunk, similar to human alcohol intoxication. Tigers hide in deep valleys and steep ridges, appearing unpredictably, making their tracks hard to find. Hunters tie inferior dogs in mountain hollows; the dogs bark incessantly. Hearing the sound, the tiger approaches, eats its fill, and becomes drunk, unable to travel far. By following the trail of dog blood, the hunter can catch it, leaving the tiger nowhere to hide. This is the method of capturing a drunken tiger.
It is indicated for preventing smallpox (Xi Dou).
