In Shanxi, Shaanxi, and other provinces where lacquer is not produced, locals use pine resin (Pinus massoniana resin) and yellow beeswax to coat the interior of coffins for burial. Decades later, if exhumation occurs due to the decay of the old coffin requiring replacement with a new one, the resin and wax extracted from the rotted coffin are called "Lao Cai Xiang" (Old Timber Fragrance). Locals use this material in compounding medicines for treating metal wounds (Jin Chuang). Note: Resin and wax are the essence of primordial flowing fluids; their efficacy is consolidated by the earth, and their spirit is condensed by the residual Qi of flesh and blood. Thus, one substance utilizes the functions of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity (San Cai), so its medicinal efficacy is double that of other herbs. *Yao Xing Kao* records: Pine resin from ancient coffins in northern regions, when used in medicines for metal wounds, is extremely effective in stopping bleeding, treating fractures from falls and blows, stopping bleeding from metal wounds, generating muscle tissue, and relieving pain, with miraculous effects. In Lu Shi's Immortal Formula, it is used in Jin Chuang Tie Shan San (Metal Wound Iron Fan Powder).
The *Ben Cao Gang Mu* (Compendium of Materia Medica) mentions Sheng Teng (Sargentodoxa cuneata) in the Vine section, which is Hong Teng (Red Vine). The Collected Explanations state that it can be used to bind objects, and its therapeutic indications only mention dispelling wind and killing parasites, with no mention of treating Brain Lou (Nasal Sinusitis/Ozena). Emergency formula for treating Brain Lou: Use the bark vine of Fu Mu Hong Teng (Bauhinia variegata or similar binding vine), calcined to retain its nature, ground into powder. Take 3 qian with wine per dose. After taking the medicine, one feels a thread-like sensation extending from the nose down the spine to the thighs, and the Brain Lou heals. Taking it once a year is effective.
Intestinal Abscess (Chang Yong): *Jing Yan Guang Ji* records: When an intestinal abscess occurs in the corner of the lower abdomen, presenting with slight swelling, continuous dull pain in the lower abdomen, and unchanged skin color, use approximately 1 liang of Hong Teng (Sargentodoxa cuneata) and 2 bowls of good wine. Drink until drunk and lie down. In the afternoon, take approximately 1 liang of Zi Hua Di Ding (Viola yedoensis), decocted in good wine. Pain will gradually cease after taking it; take another dose.
Fu Zi: Made from sheep horns, available in five colors, but only the white variety is used medicinally. Those kept before Buddha statues for over ten years are of good quality. Remove all grease, grind on a new tile. Used for treating fistulas, scalds/burns, and breast abscesses. Emergency formula: Calcine Liuli (Colored Glaze/Glass) slices to ash, retaining nature. Take 1 qian with wine after meals; it dissipates immediately.
Secret recipe for resolving all fistulas from *Jiu Sheng Ku Hai*: Roast fingernails until yellow and grind fine; grind ivory file dust fine; roast Pangolin scales (Chuan Shan Jia) until yellow and grind fine; rosin (Ru Xiang) and myrrh (Mo Yao) are roasted; Cinnabar (Zhu Sha) is water-triturated; old glass lamp bases (white ones from before Buddha statues, preferably 30 years old; if unavailable, those over 10 years old are acceptable) are crushed, stir-fried with bran to an ultra-fine powder. Each ingredient is 3 qian. Mix well and grind again. Melt 4 liang of yellow beeswax and mix with the powder to form pills the size of Sichuan pepper seeds. Initial dose: 5 pills. Second dose: 6 pills. Increase by one pill daily up to 14 pills. Total duration: 10 days, consuming 95 pills. On day 11, decrease by one pill daily until reaching 5 pills. Then increase by one pill daily back to 14 pills, then decrease again. This cycle repeats. Alternatively, start from 5 pills each time when reaching 14 pills, which is better. Take on an empty stomach with aged wine. The fistula tract will gradually extrude until completely resolved. If not fully resolved, restart the course. Miraculous effect. Keep secret.
*Nei Xiao Pi Guan Shen Fang* recorded in Chen Zhifu's *Gong Xing Lu*: This formula treats anal fistulas miraculously. A child fell from a height, injuring the spinal bone. Over a month later, a toxic ulcer formed a fistula, and roundworms emerged from the fistula opening. The Classics state: External carbuncles penetrating membranes survive; internal carbuncles penetrating membranes die. This condition was considered incurable, yet Chen Zhifu cured it with one dose of this medicine—a rare formula. It can be used for any type of fistula, not just anal fistulas. Grind Amber (Hu Po) and Centipede Grass (Deng Xin) into powder; roast Ivory chips (Xiang Ya); prepare Blood Remainder (Xue Yu - burnt human hair) as self-made; calcine Yin-Yang tiles (Yin Yang Wa) sealed with mud to retain nature; use Pre-Rain Bud Tea (Yu Qian Ya); crush old glass bases (prepare as Yin-Yang tiles); stir-fry Cicada slough (Chan Tui); roast Human nails (Ren Zhi Jia - hand or foot) on tiles until crisp and grind; stir-fry Pangolin scales (Chuan Shan Jia) until crisp; use Dang Gui, Bai Fu Ling; chop Pig trotter shells (Zhu Xuan Ti Jia) with scissors (prepare as Yin-Yang tiles); roast Dung beetles (Qiang Lang) on tiles; melt Ox horn glue (Niu Pi Jiao) in wine and mix with drugs; add refined white honey if needed. Each of the above ingredients is 3 liang. Ten small bee hives (Xiao Feng Fang), prepared as Yin-Yang tiles, with lighter heat to avoid turning to ash; ten Snake skins (She Tui), chopped, roasted on tiles until melted into juice, covered immediately upon coagulation to retain nature (otherwise potency is lost), then ground. Mix with Donkey-hide gelatin (E Jiao), knead into pills. Take 3 qian morning, noon, and night with boiling water. One course cures. Verified on dozens of people.
Hemorrhoids ulcerating into fistulas: Yu Xiaoyuan's copied formula: Take one live snake-turtle, wrap in mud, place in a shady spot under a south-facing wall, burn until smoke ceases, remove mud. Use one piece of old white glass base, 3 qian each of Amber and Ivory, 5 fen each of Pearl (Zhen Zhu), Indian Musk (Xi Huang/Niu Huang), and Borneol (Bing Pian). Grind to powder and apply externally. This medicine can also be taken internally, 9 fen per dose.
Lung Abscess (Fei Yong): *Chuan Xin Fang*: Calcine aged glass ash to retain nature. Mix with aged oil wadding (available from lacquer shops). Refine and mix evenly. Take with wine. Tested and found miraculous.
Hematuria (Niao Xue): *Jiu Sheng Ku Hai*: Wash and crush old glass lamps. Place in a porcelain jar, seal with mud, and fire until red. Cool, remove, and take with wine.
Mercurial Condyloma/Toxic Sores (Qing Fen Jie Du): *Jiu Sheng Ku Hai*: Calcine old glass lamps to ash, grind. Take 2 qian per dose. For toxins in the upper body, take with Chuan Xiong Tang; for toxins in the lower body, severe cases heal in one month. *Ji Shi Fang*: Calcine old glass lamps previously lit before Buddha statues to ash. Take with wine, once daily.
Burns (Ren Huo Shao Shang): Take glass floats from temples (made of thick pine bark), calcine to ash, place on ground, cover with a bowl to retain nature, grind to powder. Mix with brown sugar and pure sesame oil for topical application.
La Li Chuang (Chronic Ulcer/Eczema): *Bai Yao Bei Yi*: Use aged glass from before Buddha statues (bottom part only), calcine on tiles to retain nature, grind to powder. Mix with pure hemp seed oil for topical application.
Throat Lichen (Hou Xuan): *Xuan Qi Fang*: Use 1 qian of aged glass powder, add 5 fen each of Mint powder (Bo He) and Borax (Bai Peng Sha), and a little Borneol. Mix evenly and insufflate into the throat.
Bai Du San (Resolving Toxin Powder): Treats all new or old swellings, carbuncles, back sores, and hard sores. *Jia Bao Fang*: One aged broken glass piece, 4 liang of Chinaberry seeds (Lian Shu Zi), one old hair net, 49 Phoenix feathers (Feng Huang Yi), 1 qian of Panax notoginseng (San Qi), 5 roasted Tortoise plastrons (Bai Gui Ban). Grind to powder. Take 5 fen per dose with Chinaberry seed decoction.
Malignant Sores in Men and Women: *Jia Bao Fang*: First, mash fresh white radish and apply to the sore, changing once daily. After three days, when toxic blood is cleared, use the following: 1 liang Rosin (Song Xiang), 30 Almonds (Xing Ren - peeled, core removed, oil removed), 8 qian Lead tetroxide (Huang Dan), 5 qian Calomel (Qing Fen), 3 qian old glass lamp. Roast, grind to powder, and refine. Mix with hemp seed oil for topical application, changing once daily. Heals after several applications.
*Yun Gu Yi Chao*: Calcine aged glass from before Buddha statues to retain nature. Mix with hemp seed oil for topical application; swelling dissipates.
Dissolving Tubercles (San Jie He): Shi Linchu's *Tie He Lun*: For all types of tubercles such as Scrofula (Ma Dao Luo Li), use crushed old glass calcined to retain nature, ground to powder. Take 2 qian per dose to induce mild sweating. For treating Qi stagnation in nodules, assist with herbs that nourish blood, harmonize Ying, and clear heat/toxins to treat both root and branch. Dissolving Stagnation: Equal parts of Chuan Xiong, Danshen, Dan Pi, Chai Hu, Jie Geng, Yuan Shen, and Bai Lian. Decoct in water, mix with glass powder, and take together.
Sores on Neck: Calcine old glass lamps to ash. Mix with vegetable oil for topical application. Miraculous effect.
Chang Ming Jiu (Long-burning Wine): *Zhong Fu Tang Fang*: Miraculous for treating hemorrhoidal fistulas. Clean aged glass lamps of grease, roast, and grind fine. Take 4 qian with red wine. Within seven days, the fistula tract naturally recedes.
Treating Generalized Fistulas: *Yi Zong Hui Bian* records a verified excellent formula: 3 qian aged glass bottom, 1 qian human nails stir-fried with bran, 1 qian ivory powder, 1 qian Cinnabar, 5 fen cicada slough (cleaned), 8 fen Myrrh (defatted), 8 qian Alum (Bai Fan). If the fistula is in the upper body, add 6 fen Chuan Xiong; if in the lower body, add 6 fen Niu Xi. Grind to fine powder. Melt 3 liang yellow beeswax and mix with the powder. Roll into pills the size of mung beans. Initial dose: 7-8 pills. Increase by one pill daily up to 16-17 pills. Take with unfermented good wine. Take after meals for upper body fistulas, on an empty stomach for lower body fistulas. Strictly avoid chicken and all Allium vegetables.
