藤乃木本。各种山藤,性最蔓延,喜束物,故为火亦如其本性。匏属皆瓠类,草本也。

Vines are woody plants. Various mountain vines have a nature that spreads most extensively, liking to bind and wrap around objects; therefore, when used as firewood, their burning characteristics also resemble their innate nature. The *Pao* (gourd) category all belongs to the *Hu* (bottle gourd) type, which is herbaceous.
Their stems are hollow throughout, and they grow at the fastest rate; their nature of movement is very swift. Currently, people in Huizhou who make fireworks must use *Hulu* charcoal (charcoal made from bottle gourds) for their fuse lines, taking advantage of its speed being superior to fir or willow tips. Although both are vine-like, the natures of wood and herbs differ so greatly.
*Teng Huo* (Vine Fire): Suitable for decocting medicines to treat distension, edema, and various diseases of the four limbs.
*Pao Huo* (Gourd Fire): Suitable for decocting various emergency rescue medicines, utilizing its ability to reach the meridians within moments.
Lotus stems (*He Geng*), when autumn arrives, are often collected and piled up by people to dry for firewood. When boiling meat in a pot, lean meat tends to float while fatty meat sinks. In medicinal applications, its fire energy can unblock the orifices of the Liver and Lung. It is suitable for decocting all medicines for treating *Zhuan Pao* (bladder inversion/urinary retention) and *Jiao Chang* (intestinal crossing), capable of rectifying inverted Yin and Yang Qi.
*Rui Sui Huo* (Rice Ear Fire): Used for cooking food and drink, it calms the human spirit and benefits the five zang and six fu organs. The fire from glutinous rice ears is particularly vigorous. (*Lu Teng's Diary*: Gunpowder guns use carbonized glutinous rice husks, taking advantage of their rapid iron-melting power; lead bullets do not congeal upon exposure to wind, demonstrating such enduring strength.) Wheat ear fire for cooking food mainly treats polydipsia and dry throat, promoting urination.
Cooking rice with this fire benefits humans, strengthening bones and sinews. However, it is poor for brewing tea (*Shi Zuan*). *Song Luan Huo* (Pine Cone Fire) brews delicious tea because it can gather the tea's potency, preventing the true flavor from dissipating.
Boiling pork with oak firewood does not trigger wind disorders. Boiling chicken, goose, duck, fish, and other fishy items makes them tender and good.
Cooking drinks with this fire primarily brightens the eyes and detoxifies (*Shi Zuan*).
Wine is the essence of rice and yeast, belonging to Yang. Distilled liquor (Baijiu) is the essence of wine, representing Yang within Yang. Its flame burns green, symbolizing the generation of Yin from extreme Yang, similar to the nature of realgar (*Shi Liu Huang*); both take Yang as their substance and hide Yin in their function. Thus, its light shines on human faces appearing cyan-gray; when shining on demons, they cannot hide their forms, as those using Yin as function often contain toxicity. Nowadays, people generally drink large bowls of this wine in winter, or use it to replace charcoal for heating/lighting. Long-term consumption induces carbuncles and toxins. One silently absorbs this toxicity without realizing it; however, it is suitable for those with hidden cold in the viscera; its qi can penetrate to the bone marrow, soften hardness, dry dampness, and when smoking clothes, can induce sweat from the bone marrow.
