Originating from the Western Regions, it resembles dried soybean paste. *Baicao Jing* (Mirror of Hundred Herbs) records: It originates in Shaanxi, brought to Hangzhou by merchants carrying cashmere wool for sale.
It is excellent for treating blood disorders and liver blood qi stagnation when used in medicine.
Distension Abdomen (Ascites): From *Jiusheng Kuhai* (Sea of Bitterness for Saving Lives): Take 1 qian of Tongxue Xiang (Blood-Invigorating Incense), select one "Ya Yao" gourd (a gourd with a narrow waist), do not remove the seeds or membranes inside. Place the herb inside the gourd, add wine, and boil. Seal the cut lid tightly along the seam. Place aged wine in a pot, suspend the gourd within the wine, securing it firmly to prevent tipping. Cover the pot and simmer slowly until three incense sticks have burned down. During boiling, the fragrance permeates through the walls. After boiling, remove the gourd, take out the seeds, membranes, and herbs, dry them thoroughly, and grind into powder. Take 1 qian per dose, administered with wine on an empty stomach. Repeat every five days with another 1 qian dose until all contents of the gourd are consumed. A total intake of 5–6 qian leads to recovery. This prescription comes from *Guang Biji*, stating it treats patients with Spleen deficiency and dampness.
Scrofula (Cervical Tuberculous Lymphadenitis): From *Liangpeng Huiji* (Collection of Good Friends) internal resolution formula for scrofula: 1.5 liang of Zi Bei Tian Kui (Ophiopogon japonicus var. bulbifer), 1 liang each of Hai Zao (Sargassum), Hai Dai (Kelp), Kun Bu (Laminaria), 5 qian of Hai Piao Xiao (Cuttlebone), 1 liang each of Bei Mu (Fritillaria) and Jie Geng (Platycodon). Mix Tongxue Xiang (Blood-Invigorating Incense) 3 qian. Grind all herbs into fine powder, mix with wine paste to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 70 pills per dose, washed down with warm yellow wine after meals.
Hemorrhoidal Fistula connecting to the Intestines: From *Haiyao Milu* (Secret Records of Marine Medicines) Hu Lian Zhui Du Fang (Hu Lian Poison-Chasing Formula): Specifically treats hemorrhoidal fistulas, regardless of duration. For cases with fistula tracts connecting to the intestines or foul openings discharging matter, first use this formula to chase out all pus and blood, then administer Huanglian Guan Guan Wan (Coptis Tube-Closing Pill) for stable results. Use 8 qian of Hu Huang Lian (Phellodendron Bark), sliced and stir-fried with ginger juice; one Ci Ji Li Pi (Tribulus Skin), sliced and stir-fried until yellow, then ground; Tongxue Xiang (Blood-Invigorating Incense) 8 fen (must be authentic), ground; She Xiang (Musk) 2 fen. Mix uniformly, bind with soft rice to form pills the size of hemp seeds. Take 1 qian per dose, before meals with wine. Increased discharge of pus/water after medication indicates efficacy; do not fear.
Huanglian Guan Guan Wan (Coptis Tube-Closing Pill): 8 qian of purified Hu Huang Lian (Phellodendron Bark) powder, 5 qian of Jia Pian (Pangolin Scales) fried in sesame oil until scorched, 5 qian of Shi Jue Ming (Abalone Shell) calcined, 6 fen of authentic Tongxue Xiang (Blood-Invigorating Incense)—do not reduce—5 qian of Huai Hua (Sophora Flower). Grind into fine powder, bind with honey into pills the size of hemp seeds. Take 1 qian per dose, with clear rice soup on an empty stomach, twice daily (morning and evening). Severe cases resolve in 21 days. This formula avoids the pain of surgical knives and threads, truly being a miraculous remedy for restoring function. If hard flesh protrudes at the fistula edge, add 21 silkworm cocoons, stir-fried and ground, mixed in. This formula treats various fistulas throughout the body, proving effective upon repeated trials.
Zang Lian Wan (Intestine-Connected Pill): Treats hemorrhoidal fistulas regardless of new or old onset, specifically for symptoms such as bleeding and pain upon defecation, heavy sensation in the anus, continuous pus/blood discharge, and severe swelling/pain making sitting difficult. Use 8 liang of purified Hu Huang Lian (Phellodendron Bark) powder, 1.5 qian of Tongxue Xiang (Blood-Invigorating Incense). Take the distal end of a male pig’s large intestine, 1 chi 2 cun long. Wash clean with warm water. Stuff the Hu Huang Lian powder and Tongxue Xiang into the intestine. Tie both ends tightly with white silk thread. Boil in 2.5 jin of wine in a new clay pot until the wine is nearly dry. Remove the intestine and herbs, pound each into a paste separately. If the mixture becomes too soft, sun-dry for one hour and pound again. Form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 70 pills per dose, with warm wine on an empty stomach. Long-term use eliminates the root cause. Also known as Bai Yin Ding Zi (Silver Anchor), it treats fistulas with openings, showing effects within half a month, with divine efficacy.
San Pin Yi Tiao Qiang (Three Types Single-Spear): 1 liang of purified Bai Pi (White Arsenic) powder, 2 liang of purified Bai Fan (Alum) powder, 2.4 qian of Ming Xiong Huang (Realgar), 8 fen of Tongxue Xiang (Blood-Invigorating Incense), 1.2 qian of Ru Xiang (Frankincense). Apply three times daily for seven days. The wound will scab and heal within half a month. If pain persists, apply Sheng Ji San (Flesh-Generating Powder) to close the wound. Ingredients: Ru Xiang (Frankincense), Mo Yao (Myrrh), Hai Piao Xiao (Cuttlebone) boiled in San Huang Tang (Three Yellows Decoction); Han Shui Shi (Calcite) calcined; Qing Fen (Calomel), Long Gu (Fossilized Bones), Chi Shi Zhi (Red Halloysite), Bing Pian (Borneol) in equal parts.
