It refers to the oil scale inside the lamp basin; if copper green (copper rust) has grown on it, it is excellent for medicinal use.
Treating Yanwo Chuang (Eagle's Nest Sore): *Jiusheng Kuhai* records: Originally named Faji Chuang (Hairline Sore), it occurs at the lower end of the occipital bone where hair ends; scrape off the greenish-black scale from the copper lamp basin, grind it into a paste, and apply it to the affected area.
*Wuli Xiaoshi* records: In Dianjinchi Wei, agate and quartz powder mixed with juice are applied to smallpox lesions in the north, which then condense into silk-like threads used to make lamps. Recently, Danyang and Yashu wrote it as "Liao Si" (Twisted Silk), and "Da Nei Qing Suo" refers to this substance. When ground into a slurry, it can stop bleeding and break blood stasis.
Wang Lianshi Herbal Prescription records: Wulong Chi (Black Dragon Wing) refers to charcoal sticks that have fallen into the soil and been exposed to frost and snow, which are considered superior. It treats severe foot rot by burning it into charcoal and applying it with oil; it treats Ban Sha (Spotted Fever) and quenches Shen Gui Jian (Divine Ghost Arrow), showing miraculous effects.
Treating Ear Swelling, Rot, Distension, and Pain: *Jiusheng Kuhai* records: Burn old boat sail bamboo leaves to ash while preserving their nature, add a small amount of Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum), grind finely, and insufflate into the ear.
This grows between the keel wood (Chen Mu) in the middle of the bottom of sea ships, which sailors call Longgu (Dragon Bone). The medicine resembles fungi, and after drying, it is used medicinally. It treats Weiwann Tengtong (Epigastric Pain).
Note: Pan Ziheng's *Guang Junpu* records: Duocai (Rudder Vegetable) is the fungus growing on the rudder of sea ships, which is rare. If true, it should be classified in the Vegetables section, left for future verification.
Treating Naichuan (Breast Abscess Spreading): Mao Shihong's Experience Collection records: For breast carbuncles that spread and ulcerate over many years without healing, exposing internal organs and remaining deep and unhealed, take the old rattan hoop from the hand-gripping part of the first oar of a rowing boat, cut it off, grind it into powder on Yin-Yang tiles, sieve it using a bamboo tube tied with gauze, and sprinkle it on the wound daily; if dry, mix with sesame oil and apply. Healing occurs within half a month.
Treating Yangyan Lou (Sheep-Eye Fistula): *Jiusheng Kuhai* records: This condition appears on the tibia, forming a single pore with no pus or blood, only clear fluid draining, accompanied by severe pain. Scrape lac from an old lacquer plate, burn it to ash, and apply it to the lesion for cure.
Wooden combs are made of wood and used to detangle hair. Combs made of Yangxinmu (Buxus Sinica Wood) can clear fire, while those made of Shinanmu (Photinia serratifolia Wood) regulate wind. Those made from these two woods are the best. Combs made of miscellaneous woods, camel bone, or buffalo horn are not used in medicine. Some say ivory combs can ward off evil, soap pod combs prevent lice, and cypress-lead combs darken hair; however, none are better than the commonly used Yangxinmu and Shinanmu. *Bencao Gangmu* combined combs and pick-combs without distinction, listing many treatment methods, but omitted the functions of oil combs; thus, they are supplemented here.
Treating Feiwei (Lung Atrophy): *Jiusheng Kuhai* records: Take one oil wooden comb aged 20–30 years, calcine it to preserve its nature, and swallow with boiling water or sweet wine.
Treating Wulin (Five Strangury Types): *Tongshou Lu* records: Calcine an old wooden comb to preserve its nature, take orally with cold water on an empty stomach. Men use male combs, women use female combs, yielding miraculous results.
Aojing (Stiff Neck): *Haishang Mingfang* records: This disease is colloquially called Luozhen (Falling Pillow), caused by sleeping awkwardly under the pillow at night or accidental sprain, leading to blood stasis causing stiffness and soreness. Warm the back of an old oil comb over fire and vigorously scrape the painful area until self-healing.
Accidental Ingestion of Leeches: Yu Qianshan said: I once accidentally ingested one, resulting in abdominal diarrhea, intermittent pain, and bloody stools. Treating with yellow earth slurry and other medicines externally failed mostly; someone taught me to take the ash of an old oil comb mixed with wine, which expelled the leeches as water overnight. Truly a miraculous prescription.
