*Diancheng Ji* records: In the Baiyi region of Yunnan, there is a river called Xiaomenggong River, which produces a type of fish. The local Yi people consume this fish and can engage in sexual intercourse with one hundred women per day; consequently, the Yi people are extremely lustful by nature, and both nobles and commoners have multiple wives. This area also produces curved ginger. *Shuelue* states: This fish is produced in Menggong River; males are usually more numerous than females and swim around. The Yi people often eat its meat and can engage in sexual intercourse with one hundred women per day. For medicinal use, the male fish should be used. It strengthens the Yang pathway (sexual function), consolidates essence and marrow, and when taken by an eighty-year-old man, it promotes fertility.

*Qieyan Ji* records: Sea dragons (Hai Long) are produced in Penghu Bay. In winter, they leap onto the beach in pairs. Fishermen capture them and regard them as precious objects. Their heads and tails resemble those of a dragon, but they lack teeth and claws. The larger ones are over one chi long and can be used medicinally. A translator notes: This creature has male and female distinctions; females are yellow, and males are green. Its efficacy is several times that of Hippocampus (Sea Horse), benefiting sexual performance. It is particularly effective in inducing labor; holding it facilitates immediate delivery.
*Baicao Jing* states: There are three types within the Hippocampus genus: The small ones are less than one cun in length, named Hai Qu (Sea Maggot), and are not used in medicine; the medium-sized ones are one to two cun long, named Hippocampus (Sea Horse). Their tails coil into a circular shape, and their bodies are flat like a horse. Their nature is warm, and their taste is sweet. They warm the Water Zang (Kidney), strengthen the Yang pathway, dissipate mass formations (Jia Kuai), and treat carbuncles, difficult labor, and Qi-Blood pain. The Sea Dragon (Hai Long) is the exceptionally large variety among Hippocampus, ranging from four or five cun to about one chi in length. They have elongated bodies and straight tails that do not coil. Their medicinal efficacy is doubled. Although they belong to the same category and share similar shapes, there are slight differences. This creature is also found in Nanhai, Guangzhou. Its body is square-shaped, jade-colored all over, with dense bamboo-joint patterns, shining brilliantly. It is indeed a fine quality product. *Jieyu* records: Gu is another name for Hippocampus. Those that are flat like centipedes, when calcined and taken, primarily treat nocturnal emission.
*Bencao Yuanshi* records: Sea cows (Hai Niu) inhabit the East China Sea and belong to the Conus (Sea Snail) family. They have horns on their heads resembling those of a cow, hence the name. Their horns are hard, sharp, and striated. Their bodies are dark gray with tortoise-shell patterns on the back, yellowish-white bellies, tendons, floral spots on the crown, and fish-like tails. They are frequently used in sexual arts today. Their flavor is salty and warm, and they are non-toxic. They primarily benefit the Kidney, consolidate essence, and promote Yang.
