Feces, Saliva, Eggshells, Leg Bones, Trachea
*Bencao Gangmu* (Compendium of Materia Medica) records that goose feathers can treat *shegong* toxicity (poisoning caused by aquatic insects), promote Qi circulation, prevent epilepsy, and relieve dysphagia. Goose feces can treat oral thrush in infants; feces from grey geese can be applied to treat insect and snake bites. However, people are unaware that goose feathers can also treat carbuncles, and goose feces can further treat dog bites; these points are supplemented here.
Treating Carbuncle Toxins: *Jiyan Fang* (Collected Effective Prescriptions) states: Take one tael of goose feather ash and two taels of alum, grind into powder, make pills with wheat paste, take two qian per dose, washed down with good wine.
Leprosy: *Shencun Yuanzhu*'s Shenmao Wan is highly effective for treating leprosy. Take one jin of *Sophora flavescens* root (*Kushen*), eight liang of goose feathers, calcine until the medicinal properties are retained, grind into powder, make pills with aged rice paste, size of *Celastrus orbiculatus* seeds, take fifty pills per dose, washed down with wine, twice a day.
Shengong Zhibao Dan: A secret family prescription from Wang Qiuquan, specifically treating men and women with purulent fatty sores, pustular sores, "wax pear head" lesions, generalized wind-leprosy, urticaria, scabies, and tinea, with extreme itching, numbness, various wind-induced soreness and pain in hands and feet, broken skin, extreme itching of the scrotum, and female genital itching and dampness. It can be used as wine pills, powders, topical applications, washes, or plasters, with miraculous effects. Depending on the location of the disease, take with tea water, twice daily. Avoid violent anger and sexual indulgence, and refrain from eating roasted foods that generate toxins. Take one jin of *Sophora flavescens* root powder, six liang of goose feathers stir-fried in sesame oil until the medicinal properties are retained, make pills with yellow millet paste, coat with cinnabar. This prescription is largely similar to that used in *Yuanzhu* for leprosy, so both are preserved.
Note: White geese can disperse wind. Li Shizhen (Binhu) believed their flavor and aroma are strong, easily inducing wind and sores, none being more severe than this. He refuted Han Yitong's claim that they disperse wind as a major error. Little do they know that goose meat can induce sores and generate dampness; those treated with fire fumigation may exacerbate latent heat-toxin conditions, causing real harm. However, their efficacy in dispersing wind should not be entirely dismissed. The nature of goose feathers differs significantly from goose meat. *Benjing Fengyuan* records: In ancient prescriptions for treating leprosy, pure white goose feathers from the entire body, along with foot skin, and the inner lining of the gizzard and liver, were sealed and calcined to retain properties, used with wind-dispersing herbs as a guide for other wind medicines. No part should be omitted; if any part is missing, it will not cure. Mixed-color geese must not be used; if even one part is grey, after the wind disease is cured, the skin at that spot will turn black. Pure white geese are chosen precisely because they are unctuous and non-drying, able to moderate the harshness of wind medicines, whereas grey geese are avoided because pure white geese are non-toxic.
Contraceptive Prescription: Baohetang Secret Prescription: Take one qian each of blood-vessel goose feather ash and *Baicaoshuang* (soot from burning hundred herbs), mix with wine and take after menstruation, ensuring lifelong infertility. Another Zhou Family Treasure Prescription: Take a handful of goose feathers, cut finely, decoct in tea, take after menstruation, ensuring no future pregnancies (Although these two prescriptions are recorded, they should not be used lightly).
*Bao Sheng Lun* describes a method to remain painless when beaten: Take seven roots of blood-vessel goose feathers, seven earthworms (*Dilong*), roast them, combine with frankincense (*Ruxiang*) and white beeswax, make pills, take with good wine.
Treating Early-stage Scrofula: *Chuanxin Fang*: Take two large white geese, collect all feathers and yellow skin from mouth and feet, roast on a new tile until charred, grind into powder, divide into ten doses, take after meals daily, cure upon completion.
Treating Swelling and Toxins: *Jiusheng Kuhai*: Take a handful of blood-vessel goose feathers, roast in a copper pot until charred, wrap in bean curd skin, swallow with wine, leading to internal resolution, effective for early stages; for various toxic swellings with severe pain, if pus forms it will ulcerate, if no pus it will resolve. Take one tael of goose feather ash, three qian of realgar (*Xionghuang*), one and a half qian each of Chuanwu (*Aconiti Radix Preparata*) and Caowu (*Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix*), melt yellow wax, add previous medicines to make pills, take one qian per dose, washed down with good wine. (Yan Shi Formula) All-Toxins Internal Resolution Formula: Wu Hanyu uses two goose feathers stir-fried, ten centipedes (*Wugong*) vinegar-stir-fried, one tael pangolin scales (*Chuanshanjia*) stir-fried, one tael silkworm (*Jiangcan*) stir-fried, five qian whole scorpions (*Quanxie*) washed, two taels gelatin (*Guangjiao*) stir-fried, two taels *Sanghuang* stir-fried, two taels sheep horn flakes stir-fried, grind all into powder, take three qian per dose, mixed with rock sugar and good wine, until drunk.
Back Carbuncle and Ding Sore, Opposite Wind Toxicity: *Yizong Huibian*: Grind pangolin scales, snake slough, cicada slough, and centipedes into powder; burn full goose feathers to ash retaining properties; burn whole scorpions and blood-vessel chicken feathers (two wings) to ash; use one-tenth human fingernails, one decaying turtle shell, and silkworm, all ground to powder. Take one qian per dose, washed down with wine.
Swallowing Copper Coins and Hooks/Lines: *Cihui Fang*: Take one qian of goose feathers burned to ash, magnetite (*Cishi*), soap pod seeds fire-roasted, one qian ivory, burned to retain properties, grind to powder. Take five fen per dose, washed down with fresh well water.
Moxibustion Belt Injury: Caused by moxibustion burns, rotting and unbearable pain. *Tongshou Lu*: Apply ash of pheasant feathers mixed with goose feathers externally, effective.
Pharyngeal Tinea: *Chuanxin Fang*: Take three fen goose feather ash, two qian catechu (*Ercha*), three li cow bezoar (*Niuhuang*), one qian realgar, one and a half qian human waste ash (*Renzhongbai*), calcined to retain properties. If the lesion is deep, add one fen pearl (*Zhenzhu*) calcined to retain properties. Grind to powder. First probe and brush with raw tung oil, then blow medicine into the throat. Adding alum (*Danfan*) is even better.
