[Etymology] See the "Invention" section below.
[Collection and Explanation] *Bielu* (Record of Famous Physicians) states: Typhonium giganteum (Baifuzi) is produced in Shu Commandery. It is harvested in March.
Tao Hongjing said: This substance has been extinct for a long time, and there are no genuine ones left.
Su Gong said: Originally produced in Goryeo, it is now produced west of Liangzhou, and Shu Commandery no longer produces it. It grows in wetlands under sandy gravel, with a single stem resembling Salvia miltiorrhiza (Danshen), fine leaves growing around, emerging from between spikes, and the root shape resembling Tianxiong (Aconitum kusnezoffii).
Kou Zongshi said: Xu Biao's *Nanzhou Yiwu Ji* (Records of Strange Things in Southern Provinces) states: It is produced in Donghai, Silla, and Liaodong. The seedling resembles Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root).
Li Shizhen said: The root is just like a smaller version of Caowutou (Raw Aconiti Radix), about one cun in length, with wrinkles and nodes when dried.
[Flavor and Properties] Acrid, sweet, greatly warm, slightly toxic. Baosheng said: Sweet, acrid, warm. Daming said: Non-toxic. Kou Zongshi said: Slightly toxic. For medicinal use, it must be processed. Guo Miaoruo said: Pure yang. It guides the medicinal power upward.
